DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 5

Well, that's also what opinions are for. You're free to do that, no one's forcing you or anyone else to buy it. It's just that not everyone finds it to be a stupid idea, and some are genuinely curious to see how it plays out for themselves rather than "rightfully" waiting on how it pans out online.

No in Moore's run he was sentient plant life which thought it was once human. I'm actually glad that this issue didn't seem to contradict that run; I was afraid that it would've in light of Brightest Day.
I think i prefer that origin for swamp thing, if i remember well those stories were published some time after the movie, and now there was some talk of another movie of swamp thing, i didn't read it yet but Alan Moore's stories seem to be the best candidates to be adapted.

Look, I personally can't understand why anyone would bring themselves to buy Hawk & Dove #2... but at the end of the day, there are people who will. It's easier for me to just accept that and move on.

You now have three :dry:s. The first for what you originally said, and this double  for not understanding the reason for the first .

Oh.

I'm sorry, I misunderstood. You're just being pompous again.

Please, carry on. Sorry for interrupting that.

No. What I'd like to know is why everyone's welcome to their opinion but me? Isn't MY opinion that the end of Detective was more than worth dropping the book worth defending? That's what the first  was for. I'd have expected a friend of mine to understand that.

It's not like you presented it that way. It was more like, "My opinion is the TRUTH for all time! Everyone else is stupid! Go me!"

:doom: :doom: :doom:

My opinion is never the truth. I've never claimed otherwise. Do I really need to put a disclaimer in all of my posts?

Fine. I apologize to all who have looked up to me so much that my word is taken as law. I never intended that to be such. I also apologize for personally believing in and speaking as if my opinions were the way I see things, as it has obviously confused people.

The above series of words and the tone and message they carry are opinion. Please do not take them as if they were concrete fact or some sort of holy commandment.

For some reason, I just don't believe you. Maybe it's the passive aggressive nature of your posts.

Anybody else notice that the different stables of books have distinct DC Comics logos? Justice League and JLI have a shiny gold logo, while the batbooks have a "rainy" logo, Swamp-Thing and Animal Man have a worn stone-looking logo. Action Comics has a bright, primary-coloured logo (blue, red, and yellow).

I'm a designer, so I get a kick out of little branding touches like that.

Hadn't noticed that before but that is pretty neat isn't it  That's a clever little idea

Bleeding Cool is reporting that Swamp Thing, Animal Man, and Detective Comics are looking incredibly likely to sell out. It will most likely happen since when I grabbed my copy of Detective Comics, it was the last one and when I checked today at another comic store, Swamp Thing and Animal Man were gone.

Batman & Robin is being listed as sold out. And rumors are pointing that it might happen to Frankenstein and Suicide Squad.

I said this elsewhere, but I'm worried that this "OMG it's a sell-out!" craze might backfire for DC. Because we're now at the stage where, if I recommend a comic like Swamp Thing or Animal Man to a new reader who doesn't regularly buy comics, and get them interested, it's very likely they'll go to the LCS to get it and it'll be sold out. And a potential new customer is lost before we even get a chance to hook them.

Snyder's actually playing a clever game of reversal, in relation to the Moore run. Moore's run had a monster plagued with dreams and memories about being a man, while Snyder's run has a man plagued with dreams and memories about being a monster.

Agreed its a neat twist on the Moore stories and I'm digging it so far. I'll definitely be sticking with the Swamp Thing series

That's true though DC are doing second printings of the sold out titles I think

Also, for the people who have just discovered Jeff Lemire though Animal Man, you really should check out Essex County. A masterpiece, and one of the great comics of recent years.

Sweet Tooth is apparently really good too :)

It's gotten some great reviews

Sweet Tooth is excellent; just finished it's 4th book (volume) with this week's issue too. So next months ish is a good jumping on point for those who want to get into the rest of the saga.

I really had thought they were going to go the original route and make Holland become the monster. But nope they just kept Moore's narrative intact and reversed it's dynamic. It's a great twist.

Neat

Sweet Tooth is a great little idea for a series and i definitely want to check some of it out and see what I think

This is true but would they be able to have access to comixology? They can always check it out digitally and then go to the LCS and open up a pull list for it. And as someone else already mentioned...they will make second printings of these books.

Yeah, I think it's true the digital market that DC is hoping to pick up new readers.

I think everyone at DC believes LCS intimidates and alienates new readers anyway.

Having just tested out the comics app on the iPad (thanks to the Batman sale this weekend), I can see it being a very accessible gateway to the world of comics. It's incredibly easy to use, the UI is intuitive, and all-in-all the experience from browsing, to buying, to reading, is pleasant and painless.

However, the pricing is going to be a dealbreaker for many. The comics I bought were 99 cents per issue, but I was buying so many for the complete arcs that I started becoming weary of purchasing any more. Mind you, this was on a sale. Regularly much of their inventory is double that, and for the newer ones, triple as much. They need to find a much better pricing structure. Unlike songs, these single issues have little value past the first read. Potential shoppers won't find as much justification. Bulk deals and mass daily discounts should be implemented as a form of enticement. Otherwise I'm afraid the industry won't gain much traction in the digital realm past their core fanbase.

$1.99 an issue is a perfectly fair price. And is still 1-2 dollars cheaper than print issues.

Yeah, Sweet Tooth is also great. I don't think it's ever got the credit it deserves, as it debuted around the same time as massive surprise cult hit Chew, and seems to have always been in its shadow, from getting the "hot new series" buzz of that time to winning the Best New Series Eisner in 2010. But I've always thought Sweet Tooth was the better series. I think even I take it for granted sometimes, but it's typically one of the best comics of any given month.
