DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 5

Printed issue wise, you're probably right.

The thing people ignore though is, the real point of this relaunch is bringing all of their comics digital. And that's probably where they'll see their long term sales increases.

digital downloads of comics are still a very new concept (particularly paying for them). those will prove a fraction of their sales, i'd bet.

Oh no, I agree. For now, its not a big sales grabber.

But at the same time, DC's putting all of their money on digital comics being the future of the medium. So I'm sure it'll be their success that DC will be interested in the most.

I know I read a lot of back issues online now when I get the chance. It's something you have to market to the young set though, who are the ones that need to be buying these things.

There is also a part of the market that will never read something Digitally if they have another option.

And I, the opposite, will gladly collect my floppies digitally. However, I do plan to continue getting TPBs.

I'm right there with you Scarecrow-King.

hell, I still buy CDs and import it into iTunes old-school style.

plus, the collectible aspect of comics is only available if hard copies exist.

I just bought and read the Detective Comics relaunch issue #1... I really liked it. Which is shocking since I hated Justice League.

I prefer buying actual comics from a store but at the same time I've got nothing against digital comics

Why would not liking Justice League cause you not to like Detective Comics?

What?

I read Justice League.. I had EXTREMELY LOW expectations for any other issue of the relaunch due to how poorly I thought it was written. Yes, I know they have different writers but part of me feared it would end up silly as well. Then I bought and read Detective and the low expectation I had going into any other relaunch issue has diminished.

I knew I wasn't the only one. I love CD's.

I got this cool thing called...."Fire" to sell. :o

Not to regurgitate a topic already covered recently, but someone wrote up a very detailed analysis of DCs pricing structure (complete with hard numbers) and how it is severely flawed in nearly all levels.

Check it out if you're interested.

Also, haven't seen anybody's thoughts on Static yet. Did anyone read it?

I read it. It was pretty meh. It was very wordy, which made it feel kinda like a chore to read (plus take forever to do so). But I like McDaniel. It wasn't his best work, but not his worst either. The story just seemed safe and didn't want to take too many chances, which is understandable since McDaniel isn't really a writer and probably doesn't want people to hate him for ruining a character people seem to like.

The ending was going for shock, but really was just a "huh, I wonder how they'll resolve this in the first 2 pages of the next issue".

It wasn't enough to get me to buy the next issue.

McDuffie, you left us way too soon.

I did the maths and then got confused. He's angry that DC are going to save him some money if he subscribes with them and not the comic shop? That's called taking out the middle mad, and that is how you save money!

Some great comic books out this week

Batwoman was amazing :hrt: you should all be buying this series it is just absolutely incredible. Fab artwork, great writing and a great main character. I just finished reading it and I cannot wait for the next issue :atp:

Demon Knights was fab  great visuals and an interesting set up for these characters both new and old. Vandal Savage is like a crazy medieval Brian Blessed and the new characters were pretty neat. And Madame Xanadu is :awesome:

Frankenstein Agent of S.H.A.D.E was just crazy amounts of fun. If you've ever wanted to see a Frankenstein's monster lead a mummy, a werewolf and the creature from the Black Lagoon into battle into an army of monsters you should read this book. And if you don't want to see that why the heck not

He seemed pretty stupid, so I just skimmed the article, but it seemed like he was failing to take the cost of distributing comics digitally into consideration.

For every comic sold, both Comixology and Apple take a cut of the profits. Who knows how much that ends up being.

There's an entire section where he talks about Apple's cut, and he crunches some numbers as well. Skimming will often cause you to miss those things. :p
