DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 5

Ah, I heard they were bringing Allen back.. and... I was kind of annoyed by that. I know "no one stays dead in comics" but out of ALL of them I figured Barry would as his seemed most emotional, IMHO.

Anyway.. this new relaunch sounds kind of confusing. I suppose I'll still wait and get the hardbacks... but man... part of me still wishes I had comic shops around, I hate waiting. Even if the general consensus is "meh" for right now.

Oh, they brought Barry back like a year ago in The Flash: Rebirth. His series just didn't take off the way Green Lantern did after Green Lantern: Rebirth.

did hal's series take off immediately or was it a gradual thing that built up and began to get really popular around sinestro corps war?

hi guys! a question if its alright. :)

im new to comics. i saw "the new 52" an opportunity to start reading comics. :p

and im quite OC with my own belongings. and im actually a batman collector (figurines and statues mainly). anyways, i kinda wanna get 2 copies of JL #1. one for collecting (sealed) and the other on my ipad, for reading. my question is. at a time where digital copies are common, do sealed comics still have value? and also, i kinda had to open mine cause i needed the redemption code for the digital copy. :\ i opened it very neatly. it doesnt even look like it was opened.

You know what would help new readers? A simpler DC wiki and dedicating 2 pages of each #1 to narrate each hero's origin and history. Marvel has a page at the start of each issue that helps you catch up to what has happened so far in the story. That would also help.

To elaborate on the DC wiki, sometimes i've found myself trying to educate myself on a character, only to get lost in the wall of text that goes on and on about everything that has ever been published about the character. In the end i couldnt tell what was going on because some heroes were reinvented every 10 years and had 200 people wearing their mantle. That's fine as an extensive database, but sometimes all you need is a short explanation of who the character is now, what's his/her origin, a short narration of what has happened in their life, and what's his/her powerset.

Well that's what the whole DC Heroes and Villains section on their site is/was about. I say it that way because I don't know if it is still on their site given the reboot. They were those small mini features in the back of some books that would give origins for characters more or less with important issues for them. Then they would put them on their website.

But I do agree that if they want to attract new readers they should have something better than that. And they need to give us a long ****ing timeline of the past 5+ years in this DCnU because Eddie Berganza claims that he has it and is one of the main people to organize it.

I. Want. To. See. The. Damn. Timeline.

Macky, here's the thing. Comics like Action Comics #1 and Amazing Fantasy #15, they are valuable because they are rare. To find one in good shape is even more rare. With something like Justice League #1, over 200,000 hard copies have already been sold. Furthermore, even if you were to vaccum seal it with those CGC ratings, you'd be lucky to have it get a grade above a 7, even if you were ever so careful opening it. Reason being, the comic distributor, Diamond, does not ship stacks of comics neatly or carefully. They honestly plop a stack into a fedex box and send them to the stores that way. The only way to get a true mint modern comic book is to get it off the assembly line, which some people actually do.

If you want the hard copy of justice league as a souviner, that's great. But don't expect to put your kid through college by selling it. If you are just into comics to read them, and don't want a pile of long boxes clogging your parents' basement, and you have an iPad, by all means, going digital would be a good idea.

And hey, welcome to the Hype!. It's a fun place and I hope you enjou Justice League and pitch in to the conversation.

1st rule in Comics: Show, don't tell.

I understand, you don't want to go to the dark side like me :oldrazz:
But comics are the only thing i download like this since i don't have a comic store near him and when i do buy comics i normally don't find the ones i want, with movies for example i don't like to download as i can get the DVDs more easily than getting comics

This will be my first time subscribing to any DC comic. Can't wait for Action Comics #1 to come out next week.

Action Comics seems like a good reboot for superman because of Grant Morrinson but they made me collect secret origin, add one year, and they reboot it again, fail for me:dry:

But Morrison.

there is way too much Morrison worship around here. I don't care how good the story is, he put Superman in blue jeans and a t-shirt. that's phenomenally stupid.
