DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 5

Big shame cause they were the best books to drop today.

At least I can take comfort in the fact that people are buying and hopefully will continue buying both books.

I ****ing loved the art in OMAC. Sadly the art in Stormwatch isn't consistently good. But the story is so I loved that book too. Men of War was pretty good. Static Shock was ok.

My brother just got home and he has Batgirl, Action, and Detective so out of those 3 for sure I will check out Batgirl and maybe skim through Action.

Just picked up Batgirl #1. Am I the only one who thinks that Barbara's new roommate could be Cassandra Cain? It just looks so much like her, and those offbeat mannerisms to boot.

animal man was good :)

green arrow was not :(

Animal Man and Swamp Thing both freaked me the hell out. And if the indications in Swamp Thing are what I think they are, then ****s about to get real.

Men of War, atleast the Sgt. Rock story, was damn good, too. I was a little peeved when it was first announced that it wasn't gonna be a WW2 book, but this book really worked. I love the acknowledged history too, which I like to imagine means that all the old Sgt Rock stories are still canon.

These were my three favorites. Action #1 was pretty cool, but didn't leave the same effect on me. Detective was meh, as was Batgirl. Just as is the case with Justice League #2, Batgirl #2 is my deal breaker. Dick and Babs fighting? Eeeeeh...we'll see. If its stupid, bye bye.

Stormwatch was kind of nifty. I liked the possible ties it may have with Demon Knights. I'm not really familiar with any of these characters though. We'll see how that goes.

I lol'd at how the men of war backup is basically full metal jacket

I didn't think there was much interest in Swamp Thing and/or Animal Man. Glad to see their #1's are selling well on comiXology. Both were great.

was that superman in men of war?

Well after what happened at the end of Batgirl #1, I can see the reason why they will fight. (If they actually do) But truth be told, it seems out of character for both to resort to violence without having a nice sit down first.

Action, Animal Man, Swamp Thing, Stormwatch, JLI were all awesome.

Batgirl was good. And the only book I regret buying was GA.

If DC can keep this up, and have 6 of every 7 or 8 books be great...the relaunch will be a huge success. At least creatively.

I picked up JLI and Animal Man yesterday. Both were awesome but Animal Man was the better of the two.

Already spent 13 bucks on Action, Batgirl, Detective, and Green Arrow. I'm starting to cave and I'm wanting to buy JLI, Swamp Thing, and Stormwatch.

Animal Man is sounding good.

Just to expand on what my previous post entailed:

OMAC - Loved it! The art is AMAZING! Great homage to Kirby and the use of colors is stellar as well. I was blown away by how much I loved this book. It even has a Bronze Age/Late Silver Age feel to it that works.

Swamp Thing - Loved it! The art is AMAZING as well and I particularly LOVE the inking style. I never read a Swamp Thing book before but it's Snyder and the art was beautiful so I took a gamble and am very glad I made the purchase. Interesting story so far looks like.

Stormwatch - Great read. The art though was the problem because sometimes the quality was lacking and I couldn't tell if it was only the inking style or also the colorist or what...some panels look AMAZING but then some look like they were finished by an amateur. If you enjoy sci-fi investigation just toss in Superheroes and that looks like that is what this book is going to be.

Men of War - Good read. I knew little of Sgt. Rock before the relaunch and what is good about this book is the seeing the world of metas through the eyes of the soldier in a few parts. The art style and coloring style is interesting as well.

Static Shock - Was ok. I like McDaniel's art so that wasn't an issue but overall I didn't get much reaction from reading it. I never read a Static Shock book before and the show IMO looked silly so this was my first exposure to him. I'll give it another issue but if issue 2 doesn't do it for me not sure if I'll go for issue 3.

I don't know why they kept J.T. Krul on Green Arrow as he wrote some of the worst GA stories ever and nobody seems to like him on the title.

I couldn't resist I picked up OMAC and Stormwatch digitally and really enjoyed both. I think I will be continuing with those digitally for now. OMAC was a HUGE surprise. I really liked the twist at the end of the book. Stormwatch was just really good all around and really sweet work on the artwork with the Martian Manhunter parts. I highly recommend checking out both books!

I'm still waiting for my DCBS shipment to come tomorrow so I can read Action # 1, Animal Man, and Swamp Thing! :woot:

Loved the new titles out this week. Oh my gosh so much love! Apart from Detective Comics. I am not giving it my love. It is the abusive boyfriend of comic books. It starts out okay and then slugs me in the face at the end

But the rest were fab

Stormwatch- Seriously great stuff. I got a feel for each characters personality even the ones who had little panel time. That's good writing right there. The concept of the moon as a villain is just fabulous and its terrifying and crazy in this issue. Apollo is well set up here as is the Stormwatch team and the threat their facing is impressive.

I like to imagine the moon sounds like GLaDOS :) its matter of fact way of speaking reminds me of her

Batgirl- A great start to the series. I'm glad their acknowledging Barbara's time in the wheelchair. Her moments of fear in this issue come across as realistic, given that she's only recently regained the ability to walk and her joy at being able to walk and go out crime fighting as Batgirl again is just lovely. The new villain is creepy and interesting too I want to know what his reason for hunting down people who survived incidents that could have been fatal is

The DCU dark titles can be summed up in one word- superb

Really the only comic books this week that made me go meh were Green Arrow and Detective Comics. But I didn't outright hate either of them

This was a pretty good week for DC. If the rest of the new titles are this good I'm going to be in a much happier mood about the relaunch

DC should relaunch some DCAU books. I'd totally buy batman adventures or a justice league book from that universe.

Drop Detective and GA and buy Stormwarch, Swamp Thing, JLI and Animal Man. They're phenomenal.

I loved those titles :)

Also Tiny Titans. I miss Tiny Titans. That series made me feel warm and fuzzy when I read it

^ It's still going on. I never heard that it was canned.

I'm baffled at the fact that not one person I've known who's read it has said a bad thing about O.M.A.C. God forgive me but I may just end up buying something written by Dan D'Idiot with word of mouth this good. I do love me some Keith Giffen though and if he's co-writing and also channeling the king with his zany art style I think it'll be worth the $3.

Swamp Thing was crazy, but it hooked me from start to finish. It's staying on my rotation.

Swamp Thing and Animal Man were definitely the two strongest titles this week. I feel like that's largely due to not having to set up much new status quo in the lower-interest books.

Since Action Comics, Detective Comics and Batgirl all have to worry about the supposed new readers that DC is drawing in, they have to set the stage for the people unfamiliar with the characters (or the comic book world in general). But Swamp Thing and Animal Man are books that probably only pre-existing comic readers and pre-existing fans are going to read, they don't have to worry about the set up and can delve right into story.

Linkara/Lewis Lovhaug didn't like it.
