DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 5

does anyone feel like the relaunched books have been far more adult and violent in tone/content?

Not really but I don't mind if they are

So far I've liked most of the relaunched series even ones I wasn't originally planning to buy. So far I'm digging this

I'm still not overjoyed about the relaunch but I'm loving the comics that have been coming out since the relaunch. I'm definitely buying more DC titles than I was before

The batman books definitely feel far more violent to me. And im not against depictions of violence in general, but it has it's place.

I haven't thought they were that violent except for Detective Comics issue one.

I want to like Redhood & The Outlaws becaus I was worried only Winnick could write Jason but Lobdell did a good job but then I look back at what has been done to Starfire and without even being a fan and having to not even had read Wolfman's lengthy TT related stuff...I cringe on the inside.



I feel dirty wanting to try to like this book because I enjoyed Jason in it.

naw, Lobdell did a great job with Jason. And Roy. I would read a buddy hero book with those two in it. But Starfire! ****ing Lobdell.

Through chit-chat with Roy and Jason Jason makes it evident they have slept together, and in the comic Starfire out of no where while at the beach asks if Roy wants to have sex with her. And then they do.

That isn't the worst part. The worst part is where Roy mentions Dick and the other Titans and Kory is oblivious to who they are as she doesn't care to remember them. Wasn't she always all about friends and how the TT were her only true family given her ****ed up past? And then this?

I was a little surprised at how violent Red Hood was. The opening scene with Roy and Jason was all "kill all the guards that are just doing their jobs". Granted, it was a sketchy war prison, but we see some arrows sticking out of dude's heads. That was shocking, even if fitting for the characters.

Actually, it says they were mercenaries. Obviously killing has certain moral implications no matter who is getting killed, but these weren't just civvies working as guards; they were hired mercenaries.

The thing with Starfire, well, it just reeks of stupidity. Obviously Lobdell wanted to start with a clean slate and disregard all the continuity Starfire has behind her--and if that was his goal, DC should have just given her a hard reboot and said she was never a part of the Teen Titans, and that she just recently arrived on Earth (just like they've done with Supergirl).

This ridiculous idea that she was still on the Titans while at the same time completely invalidating that part of her history in that it has no relevance for her character--well, it's ******ed.

I haven't read enough of Lobdell's stuff to judge, but this seems like an excuse to make Starfire a vapid bimbo and pass it off as an alien culture gap. Lame. This is why we need more women writing comics.

It's frustrating that the book contains something so stupid, as I really liked the rest of it.

Though she can do way better than Roy and Jason. Still I didn't mind how she was written apart from how she doesn't care about Nightwing or the Titans anymore even as friends. She always loved the Titans and the way she was acting regarding them seemed out of character

But personally I liked her attitude toward sex. I just didn't like her attitude toward her time with Nightwing and as a Titan

Why didn't you like Birds of Prey Twylight

I did like how in 52 she was bathing naked in front of Animal Man and he didn't even bat an eye.

I liked Starfire's casual attitude to sex but liking casual hook ups shouldn't mean she has to be an emotionless cold hearted person. I don't expect her to care about Jason obviously as he's clearly just her superhero **** buddy but she should care about the Titans. It's out if character for her not to care about them especially Dick

Actually, I wrote the comment before I read RHatO, I've had a *thing* against Kory since I started reading comics. However upon reading the book it looks like Kory was given amnesia and then written by Tommy Wiseau.

"So do you like, remember any friends?"

"Have sex with me."

Someone's been watching The Room.

I hate the character but no one deserves that, and why give her the memory of a goldfish? They've made her a vapid, sex-hungry bimbo who sees humans as all the same. I expected better. Now even the awesome art can make-up for that.

BoP was another beast altogether. I went in not expecting much. But the brush off from Babs hurt me. There went years and years of a built friendship down the drain. And then they shoed Starling on her and expected the dynamics of friendship to be there.
Her outfit was disgusting. I know a friend who liked her boots, but honestly, it was a busy costume. The beauty of the fishnets and leather was its simplicity. They could have done so many different variations of it, but they gave her this armored thing... and went fishnet crazy.

I do like that Dinah is still Dinah. Duane Swyzxognhwhatthehellever did a great job writing her. But that's about it.

Along the same lines, what's with the retcon in Catwoman where they don't know each other's names? And was I the only person who read the last three pages and was wondering if they just used leftovers from an All Star Batman & Robin to finish it? *lolz finish it*


P.S. WW was excellent. Totally continuing that title. I even picked up Blue Beetle... was this an origin story? Wasn't it like pretty much the same as his original one? I remember the first one rather vaguely.

You would think DC would think when doing this Nuboot "if we take away this aspect of the character, how much history are we erasing?" Since now that Cat/Bat dont know each other on a first name basis that takes a lot of stories out, even Bat Incorporated is now disrupted by this.

I thought taking money for sex makes you a ****e.
Liking sex and casual sex makes you a ****... It's kinda of an pro/amateur thing. Unless you're male, then liking casual sex makes you normal, and having lots of it makes you a stud.

Not endorsing the double standard, just pointing it out.

You'd think that. If anything reading these books has just shown me that DC was like 'OH HAI GUYZ' and went ahead with the marketing and promotion without really giving thought to overreaching changes for some of their characters.
Small changes have big consequences in a fictional universe, especially when you're picking and choosing which people get hard/soft/notatall reboots. Like repainting a part of a painting and expecting the rest of it to look the same in comparison. It may physically be the same, but it'll be different in its context now.
