DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 6

Also, murder under your own volition > murder under the influence of cosmic fear roach. :o

As already pointed out that's what it was though. I grew up on late 80's early 90's GL so Hal was my Lantern and part of the greatness of his story was the tragedy of it all.

How even a square clean cut hero could be torn to shreds on the inside and pushed to the limits of insanity because at the end he is human. That stuff just blew me away as a kid. That was great stuff explored by Gerard Jones and company there it was some of the finer deconstruction and by Final Night a great arc with a brilliant cap off.

Till Johns brought forth his stupid Hal as Spectre crap and then retcon the whole space roach thing in. This is definitely one of those retcons that irked me a lot cause even though I never hated Hal like so many on here do I grew to like Kyle well enough. I also feel it was a great tragedy which is rarely seen within any of these universes with their "iconic" heroes. The fallen superman. I had no problem with Hal being brought back but Johns is definitely no Gerard Jones; I definitely see why many of you do hate this post-Rebirth Hal Jordan.

So he whines? Is he cardboard or does he whine? Which is it?

Hal doesn't whine. That's crap. In this one arc he's been getting the Peter Parker treatment and now he's a notorious whiner? Please. If by whining you mean like Han Solo and Mal Reynolds, then I agree.

And as for all this Sinestro love... let's not forget that he murders people in cold blood. Anyone remember Laira? He was also the fascist dictator of his home planet for a while. Let's hold off on canonizing the "Sinister" one for now.

:hal: :hal: :hal:

Actually I was more thinking about before. One example that stands out in my mind was when he was given the blue ring and he was flying around whining about how hope was so useless and how crappy the extra ring was. It's just his mentality. He's in no way badass like Mal or Han, he's also not nearly as funny or whimsical as either. Those are terrible comparisons.

I'm not forgetting that. I personally prefer a "hero" that's once been a villain to the dudley doo right type. The clint eastwood kind that's done bad things and liked it but is now seen the error of some of his or her ways and is going the other path. That mentality is just more interesting in a character. I'm not canonizing him in the slightest, I just enjoy reading him over hal.

To me it isn't about who's the more noble hero, it's who's the more compelling character, who would I more enjoy reading about and hearing their inner thoughts and for me there's just no doubt that would be sinestro especially if he's decided he's made some mistakes and needs to correct them. If we're just talking about who's the better person than I agree that's most certainly hal, he's just not the better character.

Are you sure?

:hal: :hal: :hal:

He's just giving him a hug

When he says he should have done this long ago he means give on to to the hot burning passion he and Sinestro feel for each other :ninja:

First...

You're just wrong, moral. :D He's exactly like Han and Mal. A shoot from the hip, ladies man who's been around the galaxy. He's even a pilot. Just cause you don't see it, don't mean it ain't there.

And you keep on liking your morally ambiguous characters, but Sinestro is still EVIL. He's not a question mark... AT ALL.

And second.

Mysti. Once you go red, you like to hug their heads! Oh yeah!

He is a ladies man, and he does shoot from the hip but he has no real sense of fun or humor. He's an alpha male zoomie type. He also did most of his stuff alone while Mal had his crew and Han had the Chew. Mal's crew would never follow someone like Hal, and the Chew would eat Hal after he beat him at some space game, cause Hal wouldn't understand that sometimes you don't always have to win.

He's conflicted. He's not all evil but he's certainly not good. Hal's all good and that makes him boring. The only time he's really been conflicted he's been like mind controlled into doing it. But I shall continue to enjoy my morally conflicted types. Understand I'm not saying he's a good guy, I'm just saying there is some good in him and him exploring that would be more interesting than anything Hal's ever been.

Mal had a crew. Zoe (John Stewart) and Jayne (Guy Gardner) and Wash (Kyle) and Inara (Carol ) and River (Arisia) and the Doc (Soranik) and Book (Salaak). The whole gang.

And Don't forget Chewie (Kilowog)! I'm sure Hal would never yield to Kilowo--- I mean Chewie.

:o

That is a terrible comparison. Hal did most of his stuff alone and Chewie would be having smelly Hal craps for a week. And Hal has never had anything approaching a sense of humor nor either Mal or Han's dark sides. Would Hal shoot someone underneath a table at a space bar killing them in cold blood? No. Would Hal become something akin to a space pirate cowboy? Not nearly cool enough or willing to go against the man. Sorry pick people less awesome and you'll find it easier to make the comparison.

Hm. A young, studly Harrison Ford as Hal Jordan?

I like it.

I think moral has some Kyle stuck in his eye. :D

Oh and Hal goes against "The Man" all the time. Their just little blue men.

:hal: :hal: :hal:

Actually I'd say I'm a Stewart fan thanks to the cartoon. Then would come Kyle who I really liked. Then Hal who's just an atypical zoomie with little going for him personality wise.

Ew, John Stewart's awful.

Honesty, while I do understand complaints against Hal, I think a lot of that is from poor writing than the character itself.

I man, speaking of Han or Mal, those characters were made better purely due to the actors who were plaguing them. Ford and Fillion interjected some of their own personality and spunk into those characters.

It's kinda like how Barry was treated recently. Under Johns, he was a depressing *****ebag, but once Manapul took over, he transformed Barry into some actually pretty like able and awesome. If Hal had that same type of luxury, he'd been a much better liked character, I'm sure.

I've always thought Hal was more of a Captain Kirk than a Han Solo.

In green Lantern #3, Hal knows that yellow battery always disrupts the green constructs and it is more powerful than green light of will, so he should have just thrown his portable green battery into the central yellow battery, why does he risk his life by entering inside the central yellow battery ?

The same reason Gandalf didn't throw the rings into the fires of Mount Doom from the back of a giant eagle.

:hal: :hal: :hal:

Because he is told it would work because of a failsafe Sinestro said he designed. But prior to what happened he said they had to wait until after sunset or whatever. So since things didn't go according to plan, my guess is Hal did it too soon.

I thought that Gandalf did not throw the ring as he feared that ring would corrupt him and he would not be able to throw it into fires of Mount Doom.

You may be correct, had Hal waited till sunset as Sinestro had planned initially maybe things would have been different.

Still, at the end Hal thinks that Sinestro tricked him and betrayed him.
