DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 8

That's probably true and kind of a shame. The state of women's costumes in particular in comics is a huge pet peeve for me. Even the good, functionally reasonable ones like Catwoman's inevitably get sexed up eventually. Because a lycra catsuit wasn't sexy enough, she started forgetting to zip it up past her diaphragm a few years ago. :o

I'm not a prude. I'm just saying, when's Power Girl gonna start wearing a habit? Is that so much to ask?

The article kind of has a point, come on, Harley Quinn's new costume sucks for her, they took what people liked most about Starfire, isn't this a telling of how objetifying female comic book characters can lead to a negative impact?

It's strange really. They got rid of Power Girls "boob window". Then the redesigns of Harley and Starfire make them look like hookers.

Lets be fair here, SF has always walked around virtually naked. It's her characterization that they f**ked up.

Yeah, Starfire's new costume is ok but her characterisation was horribly changed, even the latest issues of Red Hood and the Outlaws where they try to humanize her and exlain why she's like this can't save that, her species emotions were what defined her.

But there's no escuse for Harley Quinn's new look, some may say it's sexy, i'm not that much into clowns, but i wouldn't have really minded if the costume was for a joker or Harley goon, but for her? Come on! Even her costume in Arkham Asylum was more pratical, she's an acrobat, with that suit she can't do much without her breast jumping from her suit :o

You say that like its a downside :o

I love sexy female characters and I love the way Starfire dresses. Speaking as a female fan I've got no problem at all with cheesecake or fanservice or female characters dressing in sexy ways

It's the way Starfire and Harley are being written that makes me :csad: not how they are dressed

And DC need to bring back Power Girl's boob window. Power Girl without her boob window is an atrocity :down

It is, and i agree with most of what you say but a suit should be also a bit pratical, if they try to make superman and batman's costumes more realistic and pratical harley's suit should in least let her move properly, i say this not exactly being atracted to clowns, but other fans may have a different opinion, so :whatever:

My dog's name is Harley Quinn. So I guess I wasn't shocked by half-naked Harley because I'm used to a full naked Harley. :o

i think a degree of sexualization is expected in comics, and thats not entirely unacceptable. but i can take issue with the gratuitous sexualization in costumes and poses. a heroine wearing a thong serves no purpose other than showing off her ass, and thats totally unnecessary for fighting crime. i love me some sexy chicks, but they have their place.

As the article mentions, this is oversexualization and it only goes one way.

Since we're talking about Starfire now, there was another article where someone basically interviewed their daughter, whose favorite comic character was Starfire thanks to the Teen Titans cartoon, about Starfire in Red Hood and the Outlaws. It was kind of heartbreaking to see this little kid, who has no idea about oversexualization or objectification or gender politics, still comprehend that something was fundamentally different about this new version of her favorite character and the change was absolutely not a positive one.

This week's Flash was the best issue of that series yet--though not perfect. Though the update the Captain Cold is a good one, I don't really care for the way he was written. Maybe Geoff Johns spoiled me; he wrote an incredible Captain Cold.

I feel sorry for all of Starfire's fans right now :csad:

They need to bring it back

I think the decision to cover her up is just really prudish and silly. It's as bad as that nonsense in JSA Classified where she claimed she had a boob window because she couldn't think of a symbol :whatever:

It's not. She dresses the way she does because she's proud of her body and she likes to dress that way. And that's :awesome: in my opinion

lobdell's reaction to fan outcry over starfire is basically 'lol no one cared about starfire anyways'

Yeah, i remember reading that article, stafire in the Teen Titans cartoon was younger and less naked but her personality was basically the same, what they did to her personality was disgusting

I liked Starfire :csad:

I liked THIS Starfire... :csad:

Me too :(

And pre Flashpoint DCU Starfire she was also fab. I liked Starfire's personality before Red Hood and the Outlaws

I didn't read many pre-flashpoint comics with starfire, but i certainly liked her in her appearances and this one:

Which i believe wasn't very diferent

You should check out R.E.B.E.L.S and the Wolfman and Perez Titans stories

When i can i'll read the original New Teen Titans by Perez, i believe.

Also, only recently begining to read Aquaman with the reboot i'm liking it a lot, evey issue makes me want more of the characters, hope to see more of the characters early histories, seeing some of his rogue gallery and maybe even some of Aquaman's early adventures as aquaman.
