DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 8

I feel sorry for all of Starfire's fans right now

I've been a Kori fan since the late 80's and I'm perfectly fine with what's happening with her over in Jason's book. Most conveniently forget that in multimedia before the relaunch Kori learned languages through lip contact (hello her learning english when she first met Robin in that cartoon show people used to rave about) and had more than one sex partner at a time in the comics.

Like when she was with Dick and that prince from her planet and he she has viewed sex as something impulsive and not emotional. as seen as recent as her relations with Captain Comet.

Lobdell hasn't changed any of that. The only thing that is relatively new is the amnesia thing and even that's kinda interesting the way he's going into it. It almost seems tragic the way it's being dealt with and adds an interesting dynamic.

She did fall in love with Dick but she can't even remember the guy's name anymore. She has some of the clothes he left around her place and stuff and I guess that helps her feel connected to him somehow lol. She's hopeful that she'll see him again someday but is hopeless in that she can't even remember his name.

Then she meets the estranged brother of this guy at one point. It makes sense that she's rolling with Jason and the way they're being developed in that book has come a long way from the perception most had when they wrote that book off with issue 1.

The ironic thing being that even he doesn't realize that he's really NOT writing her out of character and has a better grasp on her then even he may think.

I didn't read many pre-flashpoint comics with starfire, but i certainly liked her in her appearances and this one:

So then how can you say that "what they did to her personality is disgusting" if you weren't ever familiar with her personality in the first place?

The cartoon version did have it's differences from the comics version after all. Some were good changes but still.

Not to mention, you'd have to expect all aspects of sexuality stripped away from her cartoon version because, y'know, it was for children.

I love that Kory is a sexually active and sexually liberated woman. There's no such thing as having too much sex and its not bad for anyone to enjoy it or be sexually active as long as its all consenting and adult.

What bugs me about how Starfire was being written was that she didn't seem to care about anyone when she used to be so caring and compassionate

I'm fine with her being portrayed as enjoying casual sex there's nothing wrong with that. It's her attitude toward her friends that bugged me.

Apparently that's been explained as her having amnesia though so I might check the book out again and see what I think of it

Every time I see Roy in his trucker hat, I'm for some reason reminded of this character called The Mighty Foghat that popped up in a Goon back-up strip in a Billy The Kid's Old Timey Oddities comic like two years ago. He obtained his powers when he listened to a Supertramp record with supernatural properties on a turntable whose needle had pricked the blood of a virgin. The Goon proceeds to hit him in the face with a 2x4 with a nail in it.

You know, I was reading Superman #6 ther other night and there's like 4 notes for me to read other books I'm not reading to find out whats being talked about. That annoyed me.

But the most annoying thing was at the end of JLDark it shouted at me to buy a book that I'd have no interest in so I can get the full story of whats going on in the next arc. What the hell DC?

As far as I know all of that stuff is just more backstory, nothing that will ruin an arc.

I'm guessing the 4 notes didn't send you to the same 4 books? What was it sending you to? I doubt it but I may be able to send one of them if I've got it.

I'm glad they brought back the notes. It's a practice that went away some time ago that was necessary in a connected universe. Much better than them referencing something from another comic and not saying a damn thing about what they're talking about.

Indeed. People seem to forget that the references to other comics never went away, they just got more confusing without the editor's notes.

To be fair though, they've misused editors notes one way or another for forever with comics.

I was reading the Phoenix Saga yesterday, and there was an editors note about the previous issue. Immediately after a full page recap of that entire issue.

...yeah.
