DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 8

I hope Superman doesn't revert back completelly, and i hope Grant Morrison gives him a big story arc like he did with Batman, he himself said that while with Batman he was using old concepts and stories as references, with Superman he will use old concepts but will build a completelly new mythology for the character.

It would be cool if he one day returned to Justice League too.
That would be amazing! The Morrison/Porter JLA saga is one of my all time faves. That was Morrison tapping into the crazier ideas from the 50s/60s and really cutting loose, and Porter's new-age Kirby art certainly helped!

wonder what the creative differences were

she has a problem conforming with J.H.'s vision?

must be editorial then?

maybe they want her to redo some things for continuity and she said lolno

The artist who's replacing her is good though

And its the Batwoman character and JH Williams fab writing that makes me want to buy this comic book so I'm going to buy it no matter who the artist may be. This comic book is the best thing DC is publishing right now and while I do loves the art its the characters and the writing that make me want to buy this comic book

As long as it stars Kate Kane my favourite bad ass lesbian redhead I'll continue to buy it :)

Greg Rucka and J.H Williams MADE that character...

I think it remains to be seen if the character will have a significant life after Williams is done.

Well I hope Williams won't be done with the character for a long time I love how he writes her so much :hrt:

And I hope that Kate Kane and her ongoing series are going to be around for many years to come.

She's the only DC character that I even remotely care about. She's my hero, my idol and a role model to me :)

Really gonna suck when they stick Leifeld on the book then. :o

Here is a new statement on the matter:

A lot of you have heard by now that I will no longer be drawing Batwoman, starting with issue 9.

The info was announced by DC a couple nights ago, very soon after it became final. It's strange (though sort of cool) having you all on real-time with me here--I'm still in a little shock and my future is up in the air. My two-year contract with DC is up at the end of this month.

(THANK YOU for all the kind words...they mean a lot to me especially because this just happened. I am always surprised by the amount of support you give me, when you've heard bad news, or good news, or see new art. And especially at conventions...I hate using the word "fans" but mine have always been so respectful and enthusiastic and I always come home feeling pretty great, reassured that the demand is out there by people who really get it. Or even with art sales...other artists have horror stories but I have only ever had great interactions. So the real-time news--despite the fact it's bad news, I am glad to have a moment where we are all at the same place, at the same time.)

I'm sure there's a lot of curiosity about what exactly happened, which is understandable. But I can't get too far into it--in addition to trying to be a professional and not burn bridges, it's complicated enough that I find it difficult (and frustrating) to explain even to friends.

The jist of it, though, was that it was a bad situation, and kept getting worse and more intense until it became impossible. I am a long-term project kinda girl and I was so excited about being on Batwoman...I didn't want to let go of it and fought until it was over.

It was bad enough that now I'd rather just be happy and move forward: I'm honestly very excited by the possibilities. All this has strengthened my resolve to do my own thing again--write, draw, color, letter. My work is, by nature, better as a full experience, and the process makes me so incredibly happy that I can't stop drawing. Which also means more comics for you. Anyway, not saying it's my guaranteed next step, but if there is a way for me to do that and pay the bills, I will.

And this brings me to the most important part of this post: If this all happens for me, I'll be honest...I'll need you more than ever. To stay up to date, to spread the word, to...you know...read my comics! If you like what you see, share it, to comics readers and newbies alike. And not just for me--show support for any artists or writers you love. This industry needs a shake up and I think it's coming. We all have a chance to shape that by caring.

I should probably mention that despite the fact Batwoman was a struggle, I am very proud of what I did on the book and put a lot of love into it. Issue 7 comes out this Wednesday and it's even better than 6; I have Rob Hunter and Guy Major to thank for that! Issue 8 is almost done and it's looking to be a repeat of awesomeness. I had done part of issue 9 but they aren't going to use the pages. It's too bad; I was particularly excited about that issue. I'll probably post a page or two of the work once the issue comes out.

I'll also say that so far DC seems to want to make things right and find me work. Again, it's all very complex, so all I ask is for your continued enthusiasm and I will get busy finding the right project.

Thank you, really,

Amy

It is nice that DC is trying to find her work. While I am saddened that she is departing Batwoman - her art was one of the reasons why I did Snoopy Dances every time a new issue arrived - I am happy that she is out of the unpleasant situation.
I look forward to whatever she is doing next.

They better put her on a new book, there are still some out there that need new artists.

I'll be looking forward to seeing her art in this weeks issue of Batwoman and issue 8 :hrt:

It's a shame she wasn't an artist on the comic book for longer but at least we are getting three issues with her artwork

I'm guessing she had disagreements with J.H Williams III...

On his blog he acknowledges the art transition under the title ''Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes''... no mention of Amy, not even a thank for your time, we'll miss your contribution.

As long as the series is continuing that's what matters to me no matter who the artist is :)

Though I hope and pray that Liefield is never the artist on Batwoman or any comic book I love :ninja:

What about Liefeld on Animan Man, Action Comics, Justice League and Batman after he's done making those books he's now writing canceled? :ninja:

Well i don't like the current Justice League series and I'm not buying it so Liefield as the artist on that series wouldn't matter to me

Liefield on Animal Man, Action Comics or Batman would be horrific though :wow:

Kinda like how they let Chuck Austen write every major title in existence in the early 2000s despite everyone hating him?

That seems to be the underlying thing to me.

DC wouldn't be trying to "make things right" if it had come from them and she probably wouldn't be dealing with them.

That and the comment about liking to be in on all parts of the comic process.

She should just go over to Image they're already creatively grabbing the industry by the nuts as it is so far this year. Wait till Hickman's new ongoing and Morrison's new series there start.

If she's interested in "doing her own thing," Image would be a good fit for her.
