DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 9

I don't see the problem with using his own characters in his own book... Did people complain when Morrison put Zauriel and Aztek in his JLA?

Well Courtney (Stargirl) is his Mary Sue. Hell her costume didn't even change; so I guess it's appropriate to throw a Gary Stu in there somewhere. I could do without Catwoman and Vibe seriously but I think it's better for Johns to take on a book like this with lower tier characters.

I've like past versions of Katana, Green Arrow and Hawkman and I didn't read the books of the latter 2 because they sucked. So at least I get to see them somewhere. Lots of more freedoms with a fringe Justice League. He could do so much more than just wasting time writing the icons out of character and I guess he finally realized that. Looks like Johns decided to challenge himself again.

I dont really mind if he uses his own creations. But I do wish that we had some characters in their that didnt have their own books already. With JLI gone now we have so many good characters with no where to go.

Apparently they were gauging interest for another Red Robin solo title at the FanExpo.

Yeah, I really don't have any interest in another JLA with those characters.

RR would be awesome, though.

Assuming that Shazam's wearing the Black Adam suit in the FCBD issue, the only people in that page who aren't on one of these two teams are Deadman, The Atom, and Element Woman.

Because Shazam's going to replace Hal while he's off in wherever he goes.

I'm dying of laughter at Liefeld's antics today, seriously can't breathe anymore.

Did you see the screen grabs of his twitter PM convo with Snyder?

"Gold Jerry, Gold!"

If you ask me they're both coming across as deluded and self important.

Hawk and Dove was the ugliest thing Rob Liefeld has ever produced (the man cannot even set eyes at the proper height from one another, and the problems with feet still occur), even more so than his Deathstroke which was pretty bad, too, and I've read quite a bit of X-Force and Youngblood (whose characters were mostly redesigns of Shatterstar, Deadpool, Cable, and Domino for all his female characters. He then ripped his rip-offs off with Bloodstrike). All his heroes are either eminently forgettable or were coopted/improved drastically by other writers/artists.

So for Hawk and Dove to be worse than his early '90s stuff...I think Liefeld may be the only comics artist who gets worse and worse as he continues.

I'll back Scott Snyder up to the end of time if he's bagging on Liefeld (especially when Liefeld was the one who made this "discussion" public). At least he can do more plots than "invade the enemy base" or "huge battle".

I thought Deadman, Atom, and Element Woman were all in the League? I know they haven't been in any stories yet, but weren't they in that early promo image that showed the humongous League with like, 20 members?

Yeah, but so were Green Arrow and Hawkman. So I dunno.

****ing Oogieloves.

Scott Snyder and Jim Lee's Man of Steel?

Spinning out of the Toronto bar scene comes one rumour that has suddenly picked up a little Canadian steam. Indeed some expected this to have been announced yesterday, rather than the Justice League Of America news.

Of late, Scott Snyder has been pointing out that one day he would like to write a Superman book, but not at the expense of writing Batman. And also that he wasn’t going to be writing Action Comics (we know this, it’s Andy Diggle.) But what is going on?

Well, in light of the Bleeding Cool story about Jim Lee leaving Justice League around about issue 16, it was tempted to line that up with rumours of WildCATS relaunching under his helm.

But instead, I’ve heard that there may be a brand new Superman monthly comic to come in 2013, called Man Of Steel, written by Scott Snyder and drawn by Jim Lee.

It’s planned for the middle of next year I understand, probably part of the DC Fifth Wave, and to give Jim Lee enough of a head start to give the book a successful constant artistic run as Justice League had in the beginning.

Whichever month it does launch in, expect it to be the bestseller of that month by a considerable degree. And having the same name as the movie can’t exactly hurt.

I'm kind of interested in the new League as i dig Katana and Catwoman and I like J'onn

Vibe being there though what the what

Will he still have his epic break dancing moves

DC editorial is driving away talent right now they need to sort themselves out.

I wouldn't describe Liefield as talent :o

I think there's a drive in a lot of writers who are also fan body to want to save awful characters. Partly to prove your chops, and partly because a lot of your favorite characters did once suck until someone not sucky came along and de-sucked them. Deadpool is a pretty obvious example.

And I think, at this point, Geoff Johns prides himself on "fixing" characters. Unfortunately to the extent that he tries to do it even when the character isn't broken.

Red Robin's new book needs to start with an internal monologue that includes "... back when I was Robin, Batman's sidekick, for those years... you know, Robin"

I'd rather see Snyder and Lee take over the main Superman book and give that one some direction over them launching a new one. Plus what was Snyder's logic as "head Batman writer?"

Apparently Gail Simone backs him up on that, and she tweeted that around the Bat office, whoever is writing the main "Batman" book, is considered head Bat writer, which would include when it was Tony Daniel, for example.

That's actually what they refer to the writer of the main Batman book as.

Anyhow, Wonder Woman is getting an origin series courtesy of Grant Morrison.

We know that Grant Morrison still has a Wonder Woman project planned for DC Comics. Well, now we know that it is a Wonder Woman Year One project. And it will be drawn by his Seven Soldiers and Batman Inc compatriot Yanick Paquette, currently working on Swamp Thing. And it should be launched next year…

Here are a couple ofpointers to what Morrison has planned;

So Marston had all these ideas and it was very deep, there was a book by him which was hidden in the DC Comics vaults because they didn’t really want anyone to see it, and a friend of mine at DC sneaked it out for me one time. And it’s this thing, and honestly you can’t read it, it’s deranged, it’s like the guys just done mescaline or something, talking about his sexual theories.

…But then Marston died, and that energy left the strip, it just disappeared… when you took the sex out of Wonder Woman, the thing went flat. And the sales died immediately after Marston himself died and never ever recovered.

… I think I’ve found a way, but I’m not gonna tell you what I’ve done because hopefully the Wonder Woman series will be out next year sometime or thereabouts. But I think I’ve found a way to get all that back in again but it took a lot of reading. This has been the hardest project I’ve ever done.

That Superman’s meant to be this ultimate expression of masculinity and he still gets to be sexual, while Wonder Woman’s meant to be the ultimate expression of womanhood and yet she isn’t allowed anything to do with sex.

At one point his Wonder Woman was considered too weird for the DC Universe. In the wake of the New 52, that is clearly no lomnger the case.
