DC to "Rebirth" in June - Part 2

Anyone reading the Mera stand alone? What do you all think about the newer domesticated Orm?
I do read it, yes. I like it for the moment. The "domesticated Orm", as you put it, is nice. It's a good idea because the question is of course : Will he stay or keep this love, or will he destroy/lose it ? It will affect him and I think that's the point.
Seeing him "enjoying"the surface world is in fact a good move, because it defines then more nuanced feeling, more complex.
And the first issue was overall nice.

I don't think King has done any guest characters right. From his WTF Booster Gold, to his Borat-speaking Wonder Woman, to his Swamp Thing that acts talks like the black wheelchair kid from Malcolm in the Middle for REASONS, has King gotten any guest character right?

I guess Superman.

While a funny comparison, Swamp Thing has spoken like that since more or less since the late 70's, and it became much more pronounced when Alan Moore wrote the character. It became a staple of the character ever since until recently when writers pretty much abandoned it.

Regardless, King's handling of Swamp Thing was pretty much in-character in both Batman and the Swamp Thing winter special.

Don't know why they couldn't just keep the ongoing series around for 12 more issues. But whatever.

ANNNNNNNNND..................... Batwoman is canceled.

Considering what we're seeing with Super Sons and Supergirl, I'd say "cancelled" (with two giant air-quotes) is probably more accurate.

How is Joshua Williamson's run on The Flash? I've been thinking about picking it up.

We can only hope. Especially since they're setting up a reunion between Kate and Montoya.

I’m looking forward to Flash War, hoping that rights the ship but I haven’t really enjoyed it. It’s been largely forgettable.

God, DC just keeps hitting me with bad news this week. I know this run hasn't been all that popular in sales or from what I've seen in comments, and I think the first 4 issues or so struggled to find it's legs, but I've been loving it since issue 5 and think that issue and the Scarecrow arc were real highlights. I'm sure it'll come back eventually, as characters tend to, but I'm going to miss Bennett's Batwoman between the cancellation of this and Bombshells. I loved her Bombshells stuff so I was really happy to see her get this book, and it was nice to enjoy a new Batwoman series again after the mess that was Andreyko's run. I kind of expect that they'll do what they've done with characters in the past and relaunch her next year with a take inspired by the CW version, assuming that version goes over alright, but that's just me guessing.

Bennett will probably get the WW gig later this year with the creative teams shakeup if what Bleeding Cool reported recently is true.

Kind of loving the new Catwoman costume...

Never really disliked the goggles, but I also don't find myself missing them.

What did everyone think of Doomsday Clock #5? I'm...feeling lost. There's a lot happening.

I generally hate Bendis, but Man of Steel #1 wasn't bad. Not sure I care for his Clark, though.

Im a bit behind in everything and try to catch up slowly.
That catwoman costume looks awful imo, some really bad S&M cosplay...but then its been a incredible long time since i liked anything Catwoman related.

Justice League No Justice was neat i thought, nothing too mindblowing but good enough...im really looking forward to what this new teams can bring to the table.

Detective Comics arc ended better than i expected, over the course of the arc it all got a bit boring but it ended nice.

The Brave and the Bold is already one of my favorite books alone for the art...so stunning.
But then you have good writing and a interesting idea...of course having Batman and Wonder Woman team up is always a great thing.
The two simply work together better than any other team.
But DC rather wants them to be far away as possible for...reasons.:whatever:

Wonder Woman is nice, nothing special but it gets the job done.
I didnt like her Brother at first, but now im getting used to him.

Yeah, Lost is the right word...There is almost too much going on, i just know that i will come to the point where i have no clue what the hell is going on.

Im curious about Man of Steel, dont know when i will get to that.

Dug MoS #1. Loved the art (the look of Metropolis in particular was stunning) and Bendis's voice for Superman/Clark, as I expected from the DC Nation #0 story. They're making good, interesting but natural use of his powers so far, too. The super-hearing moments were particularly charming.

Not much to go on in terms of story just yet, since he's understandably positioning his pieces, but I like what we've got so far. Thank goodness it's a weekly series.

I'm a little lost, and a lot bored. Well, not a LOT bored, that's unfair, but it's definitely moving far too slow and being too vague about its intentions at the almost half-way point of the series. It's certainly well done and SEEMS to be setting up something big (this issue layers a few more things in, obviously), but I need a little more oomph.

Gary Frank, though. The man can draw.

Much like Watchmen, I definitely think Doomsday Clock would be best read and enjoyed as a collected trade, or at least as a bi-weekly release that kept up with its schedule.

I personally think it's been a pretty interesting and impressive piece of work so far, but the gaps and delays between issues are real momentum-killers for the kind of story they're trying to tell.

Does anyone else feel like some of the characters in Doomsday Clock act a bit out of character? Batman in particular seems a bit off.

Is there anything in the "Dark Days: Road to Metal" collected edition that is essential to understanding the story? I already have the older issues included in this edition like Final Crisis #6-7, Return of Bruce Wayne #1, etc. The only new material is Dark Days: The Forge #1 and Dark Days: The Casting #1.

Thats what i think too.
I can see this being absolutly fantastic when you read it in one go, but as it is right now...the pacing throws some off.

Comes down to what your base is?
Is your batman base detective comics, Justice League?
If its Kings then yeah...mainly because every batman outside of Tom Kings run is actually Batman.XD:woot:

No seriously, im really unsure about the characters too.
But i can see that being because they are in this unfamiliar situation.
At the moment im so incredible unsure about Doomsday Clock, ive been thinking about waiting for when its over, but im too curious.

Let's see if I understand the story of Doomsday Clock so far.

Rorschach is dead following the events of Watchmen so his successor, albeit unintentionally, took up his mantle following his time in a sanitarium. He, along with Oz, want to find Dr. Manhattan (I'm not clear on why that is). They travel in Nightowl's vessel to Gotham via...a portal, was it (?)...where they go on about doing their own investigative work.

While that's happening, two pseudo-Comedian-inspired mimes are killing people and they also end up in Gotham because they're looking for the Joker, if only to see what he's like because they think he's awesome.

Rorscach ends up in the Batcave, Bruce has him committed to Arkham while posing a shrink to learn more about...I think it's the original Rorschach's journal. Meanwhile, people are rioting in the street because they're sick of Batman.

And now, we have an old man running around looking for a Green Lantern lantern, because...
he used to be a GL?
