Logan got a lot out of 97 million and Leitch is big on practical stunts, so I'm interested to see what kinda stuff they'll do.

Yeah, the prospect of David Leitch's directorial style combined with this particular material (and characters such as Deadpool, Cable and Domino) is very exciting.

That's a pretty decent release date, imo. We haven't seen how Star Wars handles competition, so it will be interesting.

i feel like rogue one han solo won't have quite the nticaption that the force awakens and the last jedi does.plus rogue one didn't have much competion.deadpool 2 is different story.it's sequel to popular film and among x-men fans introducing cable and domino helps add to excitement level.

wonder if it's official now film will be called deadpool 2.

I think it's a stupid move. Why out it near competition?

I do t understand why move something toward competition. Even when the first was such a success.

I mean it's not gonna flop and I'm sure it'll be good. But I dont get why do this. If I had to guess it's to assure that Fox has at least 1 summer winner

Deadpool really hit the zeitgeist last year. I can easily see the sequel pulling a Matrix Reloaded and The Dark Knight and be one of the most anticipated movies being released next year.

I'm not really worried about the release date. It's clear that Fox is confident about Deadpool 2 (which I don't think is the final title). And also about Shane Black's The Predator, which has been pushed to August.

I'm surprised Fox isn't keeping the Deadpool sequel as a winter blockbuster spot. It turned February into a lucrative blockbuster month.

The first one was so successful they can date it whenever they want.

I don't know why anyone would be surprised about it moving out of the winter and into the summer? I expected this and it's a sequel to a 360 million-dollar well-received film, it's going to do fine as long as it doesn't have a huge drop in quality.

You are projecting an incorrect concept of what is a gimmick because of your own bias. Your whole premise is that Deadpool himself is a gimmick, meaning there is nothing there at all. Which isn't true. Deadpool is a long established character with a following. Everything about the film fit that. Thus not a gimmick.

Deadpool being rated-R is not a gimmick. Expectations of lesser money shows it isn't a gimmick. That would defeat the purpose of the gimmick. Unless you think they were trying to make less money... If we get an R-rated Superman flick, that will be a gimmick. Its like Feige mentioning no R-rated Marvel flicks, because it doesn't fit. Making one would essentially be a gimmick.

Also something simply being "unconventional" is not a gimmick. But if you want movies that commit to that level of marketing Disney does it multiple times a year. Same for WB. They simply do it in more conventional ways. But look at the campaign BatB just put on.
To the point of having a ton of recorded original promotional material even outside of sponsorship commercials?
I must have missed that with the movies you speak of.

Deadpool brandishing itself as THE r-rated comic book movie for you to check out whether you're old enough to see or not is that gimmick I'm referring to.

Yeah, the movie itself relies on gimmicks to be as unconventional as it can be just as Deadpool in the comics wouldn't have the notoriety the character does if it didn't make use of the many gimmicks fans have come to recognize. Going by your bias, these are gimmicks that are incredibly absurd and barely taken advantage of in comics because those other comics/heroes aren't trying to stand out the way Deadpool does.

Feb18 too early and compete with mcu movie
Feb19 too late for a hit

The only thing that worries me a little is the lack of info on the villain(s) in this one.

Fox doesn't want their movies to have legs.

Like it honestly consistently seems to be part of their plans.

One month. If it can't last that long, that's the end of it.

I think it can depending on its competition. IWs will probably still be in some theaters at that time too. That movie is considered an event so as long as it makes money it will be staying around.

Still I think Deadpool 2 can do fine until Ant-Man/Wasp.

Usually, studios like to release sequels around the same month/weekend as the original film. It's going to have a LOT of summer films competing for money, and the week following the Han Solo solo film... well, it is counter programming.

Yeah, January or February still felt like the prime market until more studios suddenly realize they can throw worthwhile blockbusters there.

Unfortunately, that would mean they'd have to cut down production time or extend it so that it'd be pushed back for 2019.
