Deadpool Deadpool Discussion- SPOILER WARNING!!

Negasonic is a psychic in the books. In the movie, he even asks her if she's psychic.

But she clearly has Cannonball's powers. It works because it suits the Warhead part of her name, but it's definitely not comicbook-accurate. Clearly it's been 'forgiven' because everything else is comic-accurate, and that's fine.

I really liked movie Negasonic. The costume, the edgy look with crewcut, black lipstick and multiple ear piercings, the powers. She fitted the film brilliantly.

Her powers shown in the books were only predicting the fall of Genosha in a nightmare. That was pretty much it, she was never even confirmed a telepath outside of being in Frosts class. She died almost immediately after being introduced. Fans hated her.

Imo there was pretty much no reason to make her accurate in the form of powers cause they were extremely weak and she was never explored power wise. The only reason she was chosen here was cause she had a funny name. But yeah, this film did the character an extreme favor.

While we all complain about changes in comics, taking a poor character and making something out of them is a different scenario. There was nothing to gain keeping her accurate outside of being a moody goth. Now she's an ass kicking moody goth.

Didn't Morrison create her for some inane reason?

In case you can't view Twitter... I really like it

Have no idea. She basically served just to be a hallucination plot line for Emma Frost after she died.

Her later appearance was when Selene raised all the dead mutants on Necrosha. But Selene just absorbed all of them and she died again instantly haha.

That's awesome.

Reynolds did excellent, but I feel like if they had actually released this back in the early 90s Jim Carrey would've been cast. There was a lot of **** Deadpool did I felt was very much in his wheelhouse.

I was just watching Reynolds in an interview earlier thinking how much he remonded me of Carey.

Several have mentioned some similarities with The Mask and some of the mannerisms while Reynolds is in the suit could easily be compared to early Carrey.

I was just curious, after seeing the movie, what era do people think this took place? (those who care about such things anyway).

I'm guessing late 90s - early 2000s? Roundabout the time X1 took place in the OG timeline i suppose.

I thought the same thing. In a lot of ways, Deadpool is an edgier, funnier version of The Mask. The movie version, not the comic version of The Mask, which was plenty dark and edgy in its own right.

This takes place in the present or near future. Among other references, Wade specifically brings up the "Taken" movies.

Great movie! What can I say that hasn't already been said? To me, this is one of those rare superhero films that comes and changes the comicbook film landscape. Those films to me are Blade, Spider-Man, X2, The Dark Knight, Iron Man, The Avengers, and now this (maybe a GOTG in there too). This film is a game changer. It's amazing and deserves all the success it is having. It's fresh, its never been done before; and the whole marketing campaign really reflected that aspect of the film so well, kudos to the marketing team. The lesson here for studios isn't make another superhero r-rated film that breaks 4th walls and has a comedic character; but to have people who love the source and genuinely believe in the film they are making. All FOX did was get out of the way of creative people and you got a something creatively unique to show the movie going public; that's what game changing films did before.

Exactly. That's the secret that isn't a secret at all. Give the people with passion the creative control to do whatever the hell they want to do and move out of the way. This is one of those situations. The men and women behind Deadpool understood the story, the character they had and most importantly, who their audience was. But they also understood that the time was right for this kind of a film, which 10 years ago wouldn't have been easily accepted.

I wish they could redo Watchmen and be as true to the source material as Deadpool was.

According to the Internet we should see one million R-rated superhero movies now.

is Deadpool the best superhero movie ever made thus far? i think its arguable

I don't know if I'd say it's the best overall (even though it's definitely up there), but it's easily the funniest. It might be the best superhero movie from Fox, but it's a tough call between that, First Class and DOFP.

I thought Cannonball's power is thermo-chemical energy, whereas NTW is detonating atomic bursts?

Fox sat back and let the writers and director do their thing, there was like no liberties taken with the character whatsoever except extremely minor ones only hardcore fans of his original 90s origin would get.

Which is why I kind of want the budget for the next one to not be too much more than this one. Fox let them do what they want because it was relatively a small budget. Throw $100M and the studio will start giving notes, understandably so.

Fox already screwed Deadpool. They wouldn't be that stupid. This is now the biggest Marvel property they have.

If Deadpool doubled it's budget it's still low compared to other films.

I think they could end up with a $150 million budget, similar to The Matrix sequels, beyond that is uncharted territory for most R rated action film budgets. To go beyond that I could see the studio wanting to get involved.

With a director like Miller though, $150 million could go a long way. They wanted a big finale in this film rivaling the firefights in the Matrix films, but the budget ended up killing that idea. With 150 Miller could do the firefight they wanted and much more. Heck we might even get a future war sequence before Cable travels through time that rivals the intro of T2.

I can see it being a lot of people's favorite. It's definitely in my top ten. However we need the freshness and excitement to wear off a bit before we can truly see where it ranks. As of right now, The Dark Knight and Winter Solider are the best as far as I'm concerned.

I never underestimate the stupidity of a studio. But I can't really blame them when it's that much money involved. Which is why I said I hope they keep the budget small and leave them alone.
