Deadpool Deadpool Discussion- SPOILER WARNING!!

Miller did mention that Ryan was sweating like crazy in the suit. Granted he's doing stunts and moving around and whatnot so it might be tough in that regard, but I think he could maybe tape a few skits as Deadpool too if being in the suit for an extended period of time would be too taxing on him. But the opening monologue and a skit or two would probably be possible.

Here's what I think would work best:

Get Hugh Jackman to host SNL. Then have Deadpool interrupt his opening monologue.

Bam! That's all SNL needs to do. I think that alone would be hilarious.

Finally saw this tonight (not need well the last week) and Loved every minute of it. So many awesome moments, I'm still processing

They only said [blackout]Bob[/blackout] so it couldn't really be anything to sue about.

But what about the [blackout]Hellicarrier [/blackout]? I mean, it was clearly that, since when it [blackout] tipped over you could see the turbines [/blackout].

Red Letter Media review is up. Mike liked it much more than Jay who went on to whine endlessly about superhero fatigue.

In the comics, [BLACKOUT]S.H.I.E.L.D.[/BLACKOUT] aren't the only ones who [BLACKOUT]own a Helicarrier[/BLACKOUT]. The terror organization U.L.T.I.M.A.T.U.M. also possessed [BLACKOUT]a Helicarrier[/BLACKOUT] at one point. Which they actually [BLACKOUT]stole from S.H.I.E.L.D.[/BLACKOUT] ... But let's just assume whatever organization is in Deadpool's movie, built it themselves.

It's never called... that Marvel property... so everything's fine. The filmmakers walked around any problems. And consider that director Tim Miller actually has a very good relationship with the guys at Marvel, having worked with them multiple times. So it's not unlikely that he asked and they simply told him "just don't call it that, and you'll be fine."

Everything in this movie that was a shout out was an intentional shout out to the regular MCU, done purposely. No coincidences.

Even though we know the MCU is entirely off limits, I love how the Movie feels ambiguous enough, that it could easily be part of the MCU, if someone were willing to make the actual call.

If superheroes really aren't your thing, then okay, I can understand the fatigue. Otherwise? Not so much.

I think that comic book movies over the past 10 years or so have offered such a variety of entertainment. From the Nolan Batman movies, to the Avengers, to Guardians of the Galaxy, to Deadpool ... There's a lot the genre has to offer now. For instance, nobody should be able to tell me with a straight face that The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy are the same movie ... And those came out only two years ago.

Heck, let's expand to what Marvel has been doing with Daredevil and Jessica Jones, too. Those definitely aren't your typical action movie or anything.

I don't know ... I think the superhero genre has a lot to offer when it comes to blockbusters. I see a wide variety of creativity and entertainment.

If people are sick of superheroes, then the numbers aren't reflecting that. I think Deadpool's success hasn't been "Oh, it gives a middle finger to comic book movies, and that's why people like it." I think it's been successful because Deadpool is a beloved comic book character, and this movie finally got him right.

It think it's been successful because it was a hilarious and well-made film...

Thats probably why its so popular, even though its a FOX film it looks like an MCU film more from a distance. Seriously cant think of another film where the reaction has been so universally positive on this site alone but amongst fanboys generally, usually somebody hates these films but it seems like everyone who has seen it here has at least been positive about it even if they dont rate it as high as some others.

Heck even the poster who thought it should be a PG-13 still liked it.

I'm sure somebody will now post something to say they hated it but you get my general drift.

Agreed, DP was never about hating on other comic books, taking the mick and poking fun sure, but it points out the absurd nature of them while still knowing it is one itself. If this film had descended into Scary Movie spoof territory then it would have failed the character and hopefully failed as a film itself.

Heck its given us the best version of Colossus so far and one of the best X-Men outfits for what is a bit part character in NTW, a film giving the middle finger to comic book movies would never have done that.

I wasn't implying that it could open anything up to litigation.
On the contrary, I think it's a possible indication that the 2 companies are starting to be more flexible with each other, possibly in a scenario similar to the one you described.

While as another poster stated there are other Marvel entities that have had [blackout]Helicarriers[/blackout], in the movie-verses it's only been the MCU that's displayed them. There hasn't been any precedence in the Fox-verse before that would explain it's existence now in the Deadpool movie.

True, but don't forget, most of the previous X-Movies have been wiped from existence. So while 'it' hasn't appeared in the previous timeline, events could have changed that led to it being built in this new timeline.

Good point.
Either way, I'm very happy with the end result.

And marketed excellently
The only marketing campaign I can think of that rivals it was The Dark Knight which had a pretty engrossing viral campaign. It was refreshing to see such a well executed campaign for a comic book movie that didn't bombard us with trailers and tv spots.

Ryan truly is the hero we needed.

The most amazing thing about Deadpool is that even after the movie stops playing in theater, he could show up occasionally for big holidays etc. in little videos like this and the Halloween stuff and remain the minds of the general public. Or even funny photoshopped pics. He's just tailored made for the internet.

I'm gonna be honest: whilst I'm happy the movie's done well there's one thing I'm worried about that might be a result of how successful it it. No, it's not the "R-rated copycats" BS that James Gunn expressed concern about. It's something much worse.

You see, Rob Liefeld, the guy who (technically) created Deadpool, recently admitted he had Fox crowbar his name into the "Based on" part of the credits of the movie. Now I say technically, because everything people love about the character (the 4th wall humor, his personality, etc) was done by other people who would later write the character after Liefeld stopped writing for him (Liefeld's notorious for writing bland characters, even when writing for ones he DIDN'T create that otherwise AREN't ex. Captain America). However, he's also created bad comics like Youngblood and The Godyssey, BOTH of which he's been trying to get made into movies for a few years! My concern is that, given DP's success, Liefeld's movie attempts for those two properties might finally SUCCEED in getting made! And he'd try and fool people into seeing them by marketing it as "From the creator of Deadpool"! I REALLY hope this doesn't happen but knowing Liefeld's massive ego, he will at least TRY to get them off the ground.

Uhm, yeah? And what's the problem with that?

I could actually see a talented filmmaker taking on Youngblood and turning it into an R-rated action satire in the vein of Paul Verhoeven's Starship Troopers. That would be awesome!

And enough with the Rob Liefeld hate. The guy still DID co-create Deadpool...

I think it would have worked better if Daniel Cudmore had been persuaded to be the human (pre-transformation) Piotr Rasputin, especially at the mansion where it seemed odd to see the character in steel form all the time.

I think they could have used any big muscled person. I would have liked had they simply shown him from behind as he watches the news, then when he realizes it's Deadpool, he begins to transform and the camera pans around, until it lands on his face, now fully transformed.

Cute).

The hallway fight is actually in the Movie. Part of the montage when he goes looking for Francis. But the first one with the locker room was missing.
