what should be done about indecent images on the hype

  • there should be a rating system so younger hypsters cant see inappropriate images

  • the images should be banned altogether

  • things should stay as is

  • I don't know / care

As many of you will be aware many images on the hype are in poor taste avatars, posts ect. now the question is, should there be some sort of rating for threads that are for adult viewing only to save our younger hypesters from seeing what they really shouldn't or should these indecent images be banned all together.

Shh is already barely PG-13 as is.

I don't believe the children are our future anyways. :down

I vote for the "The owners can make any rules they want to" option. :yay: They should just make it very clear what those rules are, which they haven't, imo. And then judiciously enforce them. But yeah, there is probably a lot of crap that doesn't need to be here if you're going to invite and attract younger kids. It's always been fuzzy around here.

If you're 11 Year Old Nephew is on here viewing The Hype and you object, then tell his parents or talk to him yourself. If it is for comic news, tell him to go to Bluetights. Simple.

I think the bell curve age wise puts most of the people at least in Community in the late teens and early twenties.

I think the younger kids don't post here and probably stick to the Batman, or Spider-Man forums.

That's what I am thinking.

The problem is I think this site is very tame compared to some other sites.

Comics oughtn't to be for teens or older, only.

It is, but like everything else in society, the minority (the few not the skin color) usually gets the say. I'm sure the 3 people that it bothers, outweight the dozens who don't. :down

I just try to obey the rules.....stay safe :)

To want to censor this place more than it already is makes no sense to me.

Ha, I remember when they first censored LeSoft but then people weren't able to say the allspark. Hahahaha

Someone deleted my comment saying '**** censorship'

LMAO - Thats pathetic :woot:

The problem with a concept like "decency" is that it's highly subjective and everyone has a different idea of what is or isn't "decent". Ultimately, the only person who can really define what that is or is not on this site is the owner, who has bequeathed that power to his minions...er....Mods. I believe that, for the most part, the majority of the Mods and Admins do a pretty good job of squelching the stuff that is WAY over the top and let most of the stuff that gets posted here fly. Their rules are really pretty simple: no nudity and no swearing. Other than that, they are pretty tolerant of most topics, language and images, even if some are in bad taste and some Mods are more tolerant than others.

The reality is, no web site, television channel, radio station, video game manufacturer or musician OWES any parent a clean, sterile, safe environment for their kids to play in. It is the responsibility of the parent to investigate and monitor the things their kids are being exposed to and decide whether they want them involved with those things or not. If you think a place is inappropriate for kids to be at then DON'T LET YOUR KIDS HAVE ACCESS TO IT! Demanding that anything censor and change itself to suit what you believe your kids' level of naivety should be is WRONG and horribly draconian.

Let it be. I haven't seen anything on here that I wouldn't let my kids see, though I don't have kids, I'm just saying if I did. If your 11 y.o. nephews parents would not approve of the stuff that's on here, I say they need to cut the cord.

yeah ive seen some pretty deisturbing things with avatars on here, a ratering system would be OK with me.

I've been pulling for an adult-oriented forum for a couple of years now. The problem is, there would be no fool-proof way to monitor if minors are frequenting the area. And opening one could open the way for serious legal ramifications for the site. Trust me, we've discussed it as a staff ad nauseum...but they'd have to change the entire premise of the site to match it.

As far as the avatars--I have yet to see one that was really offensive or pornographic. Questionable? Yes. But nothing XXX has hit these eyes.

I think the best answer is to monitor your 11 year old nephew's internet use, know what sites he's visiting, approve or disapprove them and enforce that decision.

A site can have standards, but there's no way they those standards can line up with the standards of thousands of users from all over the world.

The only possible answer is...parenting.
I know, that's a pretty tough job, but, no one is forced to have a child.
( I hope! )
