Decency On the Hype

Your morals are what guides your sense of right and wrong and what is offensive and what is not. If your fundamental morals weren't offended by pictures of scantily clad women in the Hottest Women thread at least at some level, for example, you wouldn't feel compelled to censor your brother and nephew's ability to view it nor would you feel compelled to want to censor an entire site as a whole. How does that not compute?

I'll give you another example. Part of my moral code is personal responsibility and the freedom to make one's own choices in life without having someone drive their ideals down another person's throat. I find the very idea of censorship, as suggested in this thread, deplorable and disgusting, not to mention horribly draconian. Am I crying out for this thread to be closed? No. The same goes for the people who continually find ways to interject something about God, Jesus or Christianity into nearly every single conversation no matter how off topic or inappropriate it may be to do so. I find that 1,000 times more offensive than a picture of some woman's cleavage. But I don't decry what they've said and demand that they be censored; I simply ignore what they wrote and move on. I have a feeling that those people really wouldn't like it if I demanded that they be silenced or have some silly rating system applied to their posts any more than anyone else. Yet there's somehow this double-standard for some of these folks that it's okay to censor other people if they feel it's morally justified.

How about you just worry about yourself?

as I've already said I personally dont want censorship or at least not complete censorship but i think it would just make those who don't like these images happier and not bother those who do if they had to put the images in spoiler tags or something of that nature so fine different people have different morals but if we had the compromise of tags it would become a like or lump it situation

You say you don't want censorship and then go on to talk about how we could censor people here! And you have yet to explain to me WHO'S morals will be used to decide what must be censored and what doesn't have to be and how their set of morals and ideals is the correct and right one that EVERYONE should have to live under. You don't even understand what you're arguing for.

As many of you will be aware many images on the hype are in poor taste avatars, posts ect. now the question is, should there be some sort of rating for threads that are for adult viewing only to save our younger hypesters from seeing what they really shouldn't or should these indecent images be banned all together.

I don't really think anything is wrong with indecent pictures on here, I mean, yeah, they're indecent, but I don't think it affects any of us. Well, it doesn't affect me. I mean, if it does, I think it would have been taken care of a long time ago. I don't think we should worry about something like this. We are just expressing ourselves in our 'indecent' avatars/pictures. We try to have fun, some good laughs. I don't really see anything wrong with that. Power to Hype!

Honestly? I think the Hype Administration has been reasonably lenient when it comes to posting stuff that could be labeled "questionable" without being overtly offensive to the mainstream. For the most part a healthy balance has been struck.

Now, the day I can't post sexy nudie pics of David Hasselhoff I will definitely cry "Nazi"!

I wish that there was a way to block out a person's avatar without having to put them on ignore, like you could "ignore" the avvy without "ignoring" the posts so you could at least read what someone has to say even if you find their avvy offensive. That way an induvidual could block what offends them without anyone else knowing, sorta like personalizing the censorship for each user, not the whole board.

i personally think say what you like do what you like see what you like as long as its not to the detriment of others now i know that my 11 year old nephew sometimes comes on here and i think as there is no age limit on the hype there should e stricter guidelines on what acceptable what happened to the thing about "would you be comfortable showing it to your mother" people dont seem to adhere to that which need sorting out

I think the best answer is to monitor your 11 year old nephew's internet use, know what sites he's visiting, approve or disapprove them and enforce that decision.

A site can have standards, but there's no way they those standards can line up with the standards of thousands of users from all over the world.

The only possible answer is...parenting.

Censorship already exists at hype, otherwise we could say **** and **** and Kritish wouldn't have been banned for posting whale porn. Apparently the owners of the site decided some censorship was in order and drew the line at certain words and porn. (although I don't see how a whale's penis could actually be considered porn ... ) Anyway, they did decide that some censorship was in order on their site. How they drew the lines might have been based on their personal preferences, or simply because they know that comics are enjoyed by many children and they did feel some responsibility toward the younger hypesters.

What I personally find confusing is why words are censored when many images, are not. As we all know, a picture is worth (at least) a thousand words, so it seems logical to assume a 'damaging' picture would be more damaging than a damaging word. ( I have my own theory about why they don't, but I won't go into it.) t:

While I don't like censorship I am all for being considerate of our fellow human beings. We put spoilers in tags out of consideration, so putting a questionable pic in some type of spoiler tag wouldn't be that big a deal, imo.
