What the hell is this suddenley gotta cast a black man as Dent. You seem to be testing me about whether i'd accept a black guy.
No, it's just that Jett said on the BOF boards not think "white." That, combined with the "unconventional" bit, would certainly imply it's a black guy up for the role.
Now Jett might be wrong, but I'm sure that anything he posts, he believes is true. So in essence he may be wrong but I doubt he's lying. So I'm trying to figure out how many of the people here will need new diapers if they cast a black man as Dent. So far I'm thinking we're gonna need six cases of Huggies and an assload of baby powder.
Yes, Foxx is young and handsome, but no, he is not more suitable than Phoenix. I don't particularly think characters have to resemble their comic counterparts, but Phoenix has a darkness, a mysteriousness about him that neither Foxx nor Denzel have imo.
I think Denzel can be a badass when it's required of him, so I know he'd do a fine job. As for Jamie Foxx, I know he's predominantly thought of as a comedian but his turn in "Ray" proves that he's a very capable actor, with range. He's not my first choice, but I think he could do it.
While we're at it Keyser, how about Will Smith? He's young, black and handsome! Or how about Taye Diggs? Young and handsome. Hell what about Gael Bernal Garcia, another young and handsome actor.
I don't know who Gael Bernal Garcia is, so I can't comment on him, but Will Smith and Taye Diggs, I can comment on, and since you seem to be testing me, let me answer honestly: they would be HORRIBLE choices. Not because they're black, but because they're not great actors. Taye Diggs is a friggin' underwear model. Will Smith is a good guy and I like him, but he's been in a lot of movies and other than Ali, (which I've not seen but have heard good things about) I've seen him play non-comedic roles and he always seems to pretty much play himself. It works for him because he's a likeable guy and you root for him automatically, so as an action hero he's fun, but as a serious villain role? I can't see it.
But that has nothing to do with Jamie Foxx or Denzel Washington, who are both strong dramatic actors. Denzel more than Foxx, of course.
