Dexter - Part 3

I loved Dexter questioning the dark passenger and his own culpability

So... Dexter's on the precipice of going totally bad now. I feel like killing LaGuerta, Matthews and HELL even Deb should he reach the right emotional state suddenly became much more plausible scenario's. I figured Deb was going to be one to off LaGuerta but she's veered back onto the lawful end of the spectrum.

Without his dark passenger and the idea that he was beholden to something greater to himself combined with the code kept him more or less on the straight and narrow. Without those pretenses Dexter is now totally free to kill whoever he pleases whenever he wants.

I feel like Dexter's being set up by LaGuerta going by the next week previews.

As for the episode I didn't like it all that much. I feel like the season's lost a lot of the heat from the earlier half, after winning me over on the Koshka plotline I feel like it ended in a big anti-climax. I don't know, the last couple of minutes were the highlight but otherwise it was very ho hum.

Hopefully the season picks up at the end and goes out with a bang because I feel like after regaining their momentum they are now slipping back into old habits.

I REALLY hope Hannah doesn't go bad and provides Dexter a nice way to get back into his sister's good graces.

and now its been fillers, but with purpose...

Surely if these episodes have had purpose ie storyline progression then that makes them the opposite of fillers?

I've really enjoyed every single episode this season. I think it's gotten better and better. This episode was fantastic. It made me laugh "When I was 15 my parents thought I was a ******." It made me smile, "I think I love you too." and it had some fantastic tension between the arsonist, Hannah's father and LaGuerta and Matthews.

every episode of Dexter has had purpose. it is mostly a filler episode... the arsonist? come on. just because 10 minutes of a hour long show actually mean somthing doesn't change the fact that it was a filler.

Crazy idea... But if done right... What about Paul as a Dr. Danco type villain for the final season... As well as Dex being hunted down....

I think Deb is going to be the one to bring Dex in. That'll probably be the cliffhanger for this season.

The arsonist wasn't about "the arsonist". The arsonist was the catalyst that worked in line with Hannah and The Dark Passenger for Dexter to understand that he had to take responsibility for his kills. It's what led him to kill Hannah's father and give the arsonist to Deb.

As far as this ep being filler, sorta but god damn the Laguerta, Matthews stuff has me like tearing up from anxiety. Just her putting everything together in those scenes just has the little kid in me going "Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god!" I can't help it, even if some of this season hasn't been mindblowingly awesome the parts that have been REALLY have been and this is what we've all been waiting for for years now. It got teased in season 4 when Deb put together Brian and Dexter's bloodlines then all of season 5 with Quinn then Deb at the end again. This has been it for 5 years now, waiting for all the BHB stuff to get put together was an excruciating wait but man it feels like something extremely crazy is about to go down and I love this feeling. Next week Matthews and Dexter's convo just looks like it's gonna be crazy

I will admit that this show is losing steam on me. Tho the BHB stuff might bring about some interesting stuff, it still seems as if it will be a rehash of season 2, only with Deb in tow. The Hanna stuff is meh at best, the problem isn't Hanna so much as I haven't really attached to her because of the past love interests that Dexter has had. The main villain for this season was probably one of the most compelling but he's dead now and really fits in to the overall formula of each season having a main villain. The show still sports one of the most likable supporting casts on tv, but writers haven't come up with a compelling arch for any of them in a long time. Remember when Dexter would tell Angel how he wanted to be more like him. Even this stripper arch with Quinn was quickly swept under the rug, and the only reason that was even a bit compelling was that it might have changed the tables for Quinn a little bit.

If this show was to end this season I would say that I would only remember, the first and second season, Lithgow and Stevenson. I mean this season has been about Deb finding out about Dex but Isaak has outshined that in my opinion.

@Eklypze ... I know man, LaGuerta putting it all together... its like it isnt really happening its so 'ohhh ****' like.

on the other hand, it is quite funny how they put it together, but as a viewer we are like 'well no s***'

@visceral .. Isaak was phenomenal. damn shame he is out of the picture, his presence was certainly missed last night.

Didn't Dexter get the Dark Passenger name back from when he was attending Rehab in season 2, I noticed Ghost Dad said he came up with it on his own. I'd need to go back and rewatch season 1 and 2 to see when it first popped up.

the first time it was said was in season 2... when him and Lila get coffee together for the first time... it was never mentioned before that.

LaGuerta finally figuring it out doesn't have any punch to it cause for the past few seasons she just felt like a non-factor. Now the writers are putting her down this path with all her deducing and its not convincing. I'm just impatiently waiting for her to get there to see how Dex and Deb will react. So some people say its exciting while it just find it to be tedious.

i kind of agree... its exciting because of the idea of it and where it is heading... but some of it seems...i dont know...awkward? like it randomly cuts to her saying to matthews that she thinks its dexter... i feel like there needed (and still needs) more scenes with LaGuerta and Matthews.

It seems like 2 separate seasons in one at times...its like LaGuerta and Matthews are completely separate from everyone now... Batista, Masuka, and now Quinn are pretty pointless.

Hannah is getting old. the dad thing was dumb too IMO. the first half hour of the show... if Dexter wasn't with Hannah, it sure as hell just has to show her sending him text messages.

Should have killed Hannah off, not Isaak. and George is dead and gone just like that? Isaak and George >>>>>>>>>>hannah.

I hope they don't introduce a new character representing the Koshka brotherhood this late...that cant possibly be the end of that story.

The process of it can be as exciting and interesting as the endgame. But they have never made LaGuerta seemed competent enough with all of this detective work that she is doing. When Doakes was onto Dexter that was really fun to watch. This not so much.

What they've done by making [blackout]Dexter have to accept responsibility for killing, but then being okay with wanting it[/blackout] is both sad, but great. Does not bode well for the end of Dexter's story, haha, but I'm excited to see where it's headed.

man i just hope next season is full fledged monster Dex. just killing whoever he wants.. whoever gets in his way... completely off the rails....

a shame there is that one little pointless thing that will stop that from happening...

Harrison you selfish bastard!

I miss LaGuerta and Angel interacting with each other.

"Onyell."
"Mawiaa."

You know, Harrison... the miniature labra-doodle Dexter used to have.

This season is falling apart. It started well. Not great, but it felt dangerous again. It felt risky again. But after these last two episodes I don't know what the hell they're doing with it. Isaac, the Koshkas, Louis, the arsonist; all of those potentially interesting ideas just petered out. The next two episodes are going to have to pull off some amazing maneuvers to get itself out of this careening anticlimactic tailspin it's in.

Still better than season 6.

That's how I feel. Last night just felt like a relapse into season six style writing.

As much as I like the actress seeing were we seem to be ending up I feel like the whole Hannah storyline has torpedoed this entire season, hard.

Hannah is the thorn in the side of this season. the Koshkas and Deb/LaGuerta, was more than enough to carry the whole season
