Are you talking about the main serial killer? The Shadow? Because he saw Dexter kill a pedophile clown, not a lover.

dang you are right... i dont know why I have this thought of Dexter killing someones gay lover... maybe it was a different book or one of the short cartoons they do now. thanks for pointing that out. I dont know where i got that from

No worries man. Looking forward to the new book? Shame it got pushed back till next year :(

I always thought they were shepherding Louis into the role of 'The Shadow' from Double Dexter.

Yea, i hated the third book (Moloch crap) but the others have been fun reads.

Yea me too, I thought Louis was going to be loosely based on that, then it randomly changed lol... i think I got my own theory mixed in with the books :lmao:

i was hoping Louis started killing just like the ITK (he finds out Dex is his brother) and taunts Dex... maybe even trying to frame Dex for it all.

Whats the name of the new book, if there is a name?

It's called Dexter's Debut and it's about him being the focus of a cop reality television show I believe.

edit - here you go:

Cop shows are bringing revenue to Miami and Dexter Morgan is asked to be an advisor for the filming of a new show on top of his regular job as Miami PD's blood-spatter analyst. But things take a distinctly dark turn when the leading actress on the show keels over from a very real bullet on set in front of him. With the press going crazy that the murder took place under the very nose of Miami's finest, Dexter and Debs are under pressure to wrap the case. When their lead suspect turns up dead, and then Rita and Cody are found bound, gagged and barely alive, Dexter knows he's well and truly met his match.

what was up with the camera angles in Sunday's episode?

:wow: that sounds awesome! Can't wait... I like how Jeff Lindsey writes these books.

like what ? I noticed some weird angles when Hanna was talking to Dex in the police station

Yeah, that. The bottom angle of Dex in his apartment organizing the toys w/ shots of the athletic legs of the babysitter.

The side angles used in the alley where Dex and Deb first talk about Rita?

yea, it was quite strange...

and f*** your avatar... i wasnt paying attention and slapped at my screen.

Well the Dex and Deb seems to be to make them feel closed in and sheltered from the world during this moment, while also making it feel out of sorts. I feel like they've done this a few times this season as he's begun to be honest with her.

No idea about the other shot, haha, I'd have to see it again. Maybe it's signifying that Dex is finally starting to actually feel attraction to women, rather than just using it as cover?

I don't care for the books. In fact, I was actually really disappointed by them. Lindsay is a good idea man, but his writing style leaves a lot to be desired.

His narrative is so circular. He will spend 3/4 of the book just repeating himself over and over in slightly different ways. Then because there has been such little progression due to the repitition, he is forced to advance the story by having plot points jump from A to B with little to no build up or logic.

On top of that, no character but Dexter is really developed in the books and that is unfortunate as Dexter of the books is a weak protagonist. There is no way to relate to him as unlike on the show where he claims to be a monster but retains some humanity to make him relatable, book Dexter is truly the monster he claims to be. He speaks of characters like Deb and Rita with what seems to be disdain. He is driven strictly by his urge to kill. It makes him very difficult to relate to and that's fine if you have a strong supporting cast, but the books don't as Lindsay does not allow any of the other characters to grow or shine.

One of my biggest problems is that Lindsay has no falling action. After the climax he tries to resolve hanging plot lines with a couple throw away sentences and as a result it fails entirely. For example, when Deb finds out Dexter is a killer (in book one, no less)....the only resolution is one throw away line in the final chapter where Dexter says, "She's dealing with it," or something that extent.

Its a shame, because in a better author's hands these books could be great but Lindsay is just such a weak author, IMO.

Matt, I have a feeling I've read that entire post word for word before. Lol

what i meant by that was that i like his ideas, where he takes dexters character at times... especially dex/brians interaction. i get sick of the repetition as well... i read them because of the main ideas... and i like relating it to the show and vice versa.

and his endings normally suck like you said.

I almost didnt pick up another one after the ****** 3rd book

I've only read as far as 3, so in fairness, I'm not sure if he's grown as a writer. Personally, I LOVE his ideas. Danko in particular, I would love to see on the show.

i wonder if Yvonne is gonna show some skin this season :ninja:
