Horror Dexter - Part 6

I uuuuh...

I don't think I liked it.

I guess somewhere in the middle it had it's moments, but that was a painful pilot to sit through for me if I'm being honest.

I felt the pilot was okay, but the show may improve as the weeks go on.
I agree that the pilot wasn’t ground breaking but for me as a prequel first episode to Dexter it gave me exactly what I wanted even if it didn’t really bring anything new to the table other than expanding on the flashback we got in the first season. I do expect a pretty good season showcasing young Dexters life though.

Okay. Just finished the pilot and I do have a few nitpicks: the music picks were a bit annoying and I'm glad they weren't prevalent throughout. When the guy arrested is literally singing along to "Ice Ice Baby," I'm rolling my eyes. The light at the hospital going from EMERGENCY to EMERGE was just...as on the nose as Dexter's mom looking right into the camera and our souls and saying after giving birth to her son that "His name is Dexter."

That aside, I do like that we see Dexter's first kill, we're starting in the middle of his bloodlust. He doesn't have the formula down yet. I like his professor and hope he sticks around because he feels like one of the few genuine friends that Dexter can go to for help. The characters we get seem to slip into the roles of who they'd become in the original series based on what we have, even if Masuka lays it on a bit thick. But at least for Masuka, that's the point. Deb is the only one who feels a bit off to me, but she's always been the rebel, so I suppose I can be used to her being the more bratty child between her and Dexter.

I wasn't sure what to think of Patrick Gibson at first, but by the time we get to his first kill, with him going through the scrapbook and him having that smirk and eyes filled with a killer desire, that's where I could fully buy him becoming Michael C. Hall over time. So I guess overall, I was pleasantly surprised. I still don't like that we're undoing the ending of Dexter: New Blood, especially after Clyde Phillips specifically said Dexter was dead, but I went into this series with low expectations and was pleased with how much I enjoyed it.

Also, side-note, this being an origin series, I'm curious if we'll get any hint or throwaway line about Dexter having a brother.

Yup, I think Episode 2 has fully sold me. Deb felt more like Deb compared to the first episode, and I enjoyed seeing Dexter slowly integrate himself into Miami Metro, his attempts to win people over with vegetables and, eventually, donuts, all of his scenes with the spot-on Batista (I swear, this man must've been born wearing a hat!), and even getting some flashbacks were a nice addition. Despite my disappointment in how New Blood ended, I can only hope that Original Sin keeps this quality going so far.

And
nice to indeed see young Brian in addition to a young Dexter However, I do have one question. In the original series, Harry apparently first meets Dexter when the young child is bathed in blood at his mother's death. But here, in the flashback, he meets a young Brian and Dexter

Laura was Harry’s CI in the original series so it’s not out of the realm of the ordinary that Harry met Brian and Dexter before the shipping yard massacre.

Phillips shared an update on the Trinity Killer offshoot with Deadline while promoting Dexter: Original Sin in New York City earlier this month.

“We wrote the entire Trinity Killer series. At the moment, it is on the back burner,” he said in the video, which you can watch below. “John Lithgow has agreed to be the voice of his younger self the way Michael Hall is doing for [Original Sin]. There’s that and we’re doing another show with Michael C. Hall, [Resurrection]… We were writing that while shooting Original Sin, so that’s fairly busy. We begin shooting [Resurrection] in January and it will air in June 2025.”

I've only watched the first episode of Original Sin but wasn't very impressed. More excited for Resurrection next year. Now a Trinity prequel series coming? The "Dexter Universe" is becoming the MCU of serial killers...

Just finished episode four...Dexter's got a lot of work to do on perfecting his craft, doesn't he?

Also,
so Brian was always a monster at heart, looks like.

Hm. If Batista is back, then maybe we will get a confrontation between him and Dexter which New Blood teased without resolution.
