Brother Sam would make no sense. The ghosts are not literal ghosts but rather representations of Dexter's need to kill (visually manifested for the audience). Sam would make no sense as he represents the same to Dexter as Harry. Brian on the other hand represents Dexter's rejection of control. The only way that I could see Sam being Dexter's "dark passenger," is if Dexter decided to give up killing entirely.

I know they're not literal ghosts, that's why I put it in quotes. but to have Brother Sam as a representation of Dexter completely fighting his dark passenger wouldn't be the same as Harry. Harry pretty much just keeps Dexter adhering to the code. Brother Sam would be one end of the spectrum, Brian on the other, and Harry a mediator between the two.

edit: i noticed I put haunt in quotes instead of ghost. should've been on ghost, sorry.

If they're going to go down that route, I'd prefer Rita pull Dex back from his darkness than Sam. Rita, far more than Sam has represented Dexter's desire to be normal and human, to be free of what he is.

yeah, but they haven't really mentioned Rita in a while. I think they name dropped her earlier in the season, but that's about it. and Sam seems to understand Dexter better than Rita did, since he's been a killer before and Rita didn't know about Dexter's dark passenger.

that said, I agree with you. Sam is too new of a character to really have that sort of impact on Dexter, and Rita was a much bigger part of his life. I just don't know if they would bring her back.

I think Harry is his light. The father son bond was described by Brother Sam as something that brings out the best in Dexter, Dexter's entire humanization process started with his son being born, at the beginning of this season Dexter got interested in the spiritual because he was thinking about what he wanted to pass on to his son, so it would make sense that his father whose law has kept him alive and allowed him to feel love, and raise a son would be dexter's symbollic god and that his evil brother obsessed with baseness of man would be dexter's symbolic devil.

Didn't Dexter make a promise to god to save Harrison in the last ep? Wasn't honoring brother sams last wish to walk away from miguel gods way of calling in the favor? That's the way i see it, and if so won't there be serious reprecussion now for dex?

Anyhow, i like the past ep. Ppl who still think Gellar is real are really reaching at this point. It also just occured to me that since Travis is an artist he's the one actaully painting the pics we see/assume Gellar is/has done.

I don't think it can be denied that Geller was real, but as far as him actually being here now, it certainly is starting to look like he's a phantom. The fact that he was so casually walking out in that busy tent sale got me thinking that. I mean, the guy's face was all over the papers as the doomsday killer. I know people don't read the papers much anymore, but it's hard to believe no one would have noticed him.

..not to mention how ironically Dexter was called away before we got confirmation that Travis was actually meeting Gellar at the market, or it was all in his head.

With the re-introduction of Dex's brother, and what looks like the Trinity killings again, i hope this season isn't starting to bite off more than it can chew.

Yeah, I came up with that same theory ever since Dexter found out he worked at the museum.

And Gellar has to be a phantom. He made Travis pay the lady, and just last episode, he was supposed to be going into hiding, because he was all over the news and papers, but now he's just walking around with Travis in broad daylight?

huh?

Where was that...

Well, to be fair, I would have expected that if Geller was real. They're not going to want Dexter to find Geller this quick in the season, because then they'd have a hard time justifying him not taking him right to his table.

It's been juggling it pretty well so far. But there have been times when the series opens up an interesting angle and then pretty much ignore it. Season three for example when Dexter killed an innocent man. He felt bad for about an episode, but then nothing really came of it. They pretty much forgot about it.

However, so far this season is on par with S1 and S4, if they can keep it up it may very well rank with the best.

And I also bet that since the ITK is back as a phantom for Dexter, that the ITK hand that Masuka lost, will somehow come into play by the end of the season.

Also, isn't it weird that the first intern was a thief for "Dexter" cases, and now the second intern is making a game based on "Dexter" cases?

Does Miami have a secret Dexter cult building up...?

It wasn't stolen cause it was a "dexter" case it was stolen cause it's the ITK case.

huh?

Where was that...

The preview for next ep. Don't want to give it away, but they're revisting it.

Any thoughts on Dexter not keeping his promise to god (the one he made in the hospital for Harrison) - which i assume was honoring Brother Sam's final request....

Anybody else think this just may be a little too late in the game for Brian to be popping back up like this?? I mean don't get me wrong its AWESOME, my jaw was on the floor when we first saw him but seems like this should've happened a while ago. Also, who wants to bet that Jonah is the one that's killed his sister and mother. It's awfully strange that they are bringing up Trinity's family again though

That's what i'm thinking (bringing up a plot point from 2 seasons ago seems odd) that is unless this is part of Dex's hallucination. From the preview, where he and his brother are driving down the road, it looks like a dream sequence,as oppose to real life.

Previews are the devil and mostly spoilers...

I don't watch those. They ruined episodes of LOST and 24 for me at one time.

I find it interesting that this season is visiting the best Seasons of Dexter so far

Season 1
Season 4

Those were the best seasons for the series.

Also, here is what i find the "ghosts" are represent

Harry - Managing both light and dark
Biney - Full Darkness
Brother Sam/Rita/Deborah (alive) - Full light

" there's no light in you.... there's no light in ME"

*clap clap clap *

brian : " hey little brother . miss me ?

you have no ****ing idea how much i SQUEEELED LIKE A ****ING FANGIRL at this moment. as well as the preview for next week.

this show is finally back on it's game and i am now fully in for the ride.

That seems to be the setup for the rest of the season. Although I doubt this season will end that way. But I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled a good angel/devil on the shoulder routine with Brian and Sam.

It seems like they've been going out of their way NOT to mention Rita at times. For all intents and purposes, there have been a number of moments this season where a brief mention of her would have really emotionally elevated a scene.

The new geek intern is a little suspicious to me...and the quick exit of the hot blonde intern is a head-scratcher.

Looking forward to the rest of the season.

I was not expecting Brother Sam to die this way and definitely not expecting Dexter's brother to return. That means they'll take Dexter much darker than before since as was pointed out, Harry was the balancing act and ITK will be the pure darkness. Brother Sam or maybe Deb would be his pure light although I don't think we're going to see Deb guiding Dexter away from the darkness until she's dead, if that happens at all during the series.

I hope Dex does something truly awful, which leads to Deb finding out about him...

Like killing a man with his bare hands in a public place.
Anyone could have saw him.
Not sure how he would manage to carry the body back to his car in secret.

Perhaps this leads to someone finding out about Dexter in the future.
