I have a soft spot for season 3. Miguel was a sociopath who worked within the system to bury Dexter. Different from the usual external threat.

That was interesting, but again, the problem was that I never once felt Miguel was a real threat to Dexter. So I was never that interested.

such a great scene

I just watched the 1st season of this show. Loved it

How well does the show maintain its quality? I don't want to get a massive dip out of nowhere like the Heroes experience.

Seasons 3 and 5 were meh, but the rest are really quite good.

It's unlikely to happen (fingers crossed) for a variety of reasons:

-1 central character with a small core of supporters, as opposed to a gigantic hit-and-miss cast
-Cable as opposed to a network with all its meddling
-It's not "science fiction" like Heroes is, so it will continually be as mainstream as a show about serial killers can be. Also, Dexter has a huge female audience, which can sustain a show for a long time.

My ranking is:

4, 2, 5, 1, 3

Personally I felt that the second season was the shows highpoint, that storyline was just impossible to top.

The first season comes in second and seasons 3-5 are largely the same in my eyes. Sure Trinity was cool but there was a lot of other stuff about that season that annoyed the crap out of me.

I hated the second season. Other than a couple of episodes at the beginning and end, I couldn't wait for the season to be over.

My order is

1,2,4,3,5

I think season 4 was overrated. Sure Lithgow gave a great performance, but I feel like they really wasted the potential of the villain by throwing in his family and stuff. It just seemed stupid when Dexter was following him around as Kyle Butler. But yeah, I get what they were trying to do there.

The whole problem with the show, in my opinion, is that Dexter is the only really interesting character. All the side storylines are lame and half assed. Laguerta and Angel? Sooooo laaaaaame.

I think one thing you can assume going off everyone's widely varying opinions on which season they think is best, is that the "quality dip" is largely based on the opinion of the person, and not a general consensus like it was with heroes.

Now, I will say this, while I think Season 1 the best season, even my least favorite season (season 3) is still better then most other tv shows out there. When I rank my least favorite Dexter shows, I'm ranking them in comparison with the past Dexter Seasons, not TV shows in general. Dexter, thus far, has not experienced any kind of quality drop remotely similar to Heroes. His weakest seasons are still quite engrossing.

I even liked Season 3. In my mind, the show is not really about Dexter vs. Boss Villain every season (video games have ruined our collective appreciation of narrative) but about Dexter's own growth, and his experience as a tourist in civilized human culture. Seeing Dexter perform his work within the mores of polite social interaction and intense male friendship was part of the drama.

I don't like how normal Dexter is now. I get that he's growing as a character, but he's barely a killer anymore. They need to end it soon.

Yeah, Miguel was never really in control to say so.

I have to disagree, I like the way the character evolved. On the other hand, I enjoyed the 'killer' Dexter as well, but I hope in the end of the show, he will grow even more and maybe finally being able to get rid of the dark passenger.

Dexter has gotten to "human" these days, he was a much more interesting character when he was more divorced from normal emotions and acted like a cold, calculating killing machine.

I'm going to start season 2 tonight. Usually when I bang out a season as quick as I did with the 1st season, I get caught up pretty quick. I gots a one track mind like that with shows. I am excited to watch subsequent season

Hey Dex fans, don't forget to support your favorite shows in hulu's Best of Shows poll. Dexter is up against Glee, so don't let those harmonizing little punks win!

I just got my hands on a copy of Dexter S5 and was yet again amazed at how this show has maintained such strength this long. Some shows start decent then mature into greatness. I swear this show found greatness in its 2-3 episode ever and has just built on it.

I was a tad concerned at first that this was going to be a blending of elements season that ended up being its first mediocre year, it was not. They blended elements of Doakes, Prado and Trinity spillover plus mixing in new elements to really make Season 5 as good as the prior 4.

Really unsure how they should continue. With the ending it seemed as great a place to leave our characters as any. Not that Dex would quite but the kids were moving in for the summer. He helped someone rid themselves of their "dark passenger", Deb was happy, all just seemed well.

I still don't get the hate for this past season! It showed more character depth with our main characters than any other season! Especially with Dex

I still haven't seen Season 5. Season 4 was great. I'm waiting for it to be released on DVD this Audust. I'll reserve my opinions until then.

I agree largely with Infinity999x(though we differ in how we'd rank all the seasons). I have yet to see a season of Dexter that I would say sucked. Sure some I like better than others but even the worst season(for me it was season 3) was still damn good TV.

My rankings would go like this: 1,2,4,5,3

The single biggest flaw in all the seasons that I could see was in making the Skinner in season 3 just a blah villain. If they'd built him up more then it might have helped even out Miguel's shortcomings and an antagonist. But in the end he's just the least interesting of all the foes of Dexter.

Also I never cared for the Deb/Anton romance. Why does Deb need a new beau every season? In season 6 it should probably have her find a friend kindof like La Guerta had with that lady lawyer. That'd be something different for Deb.

Im basically with you an all points kedrell. This show may have had some places where its not as good as it clearly can be but its still better than half the **** out there

I just finished season 3 and overall I liked it better than season 2. I found the Miguel plot way more interesting than the whole Lila thing from S2. Gonna start season 4 now, hopefully season 5 will be on DVD soon so I can catch up before season 6 starts.

It's only been a few months since the last season has ended but it's felt like a year!

I haven't even noticed. I've got plenty of other shows to keep me busy.

I'll start noticing it in the summer when there's less stuff on, and they start actually promoting season 6.
