First Avenger Directed by Joe Johnston

totally and if it does well in box office will probably instill more faith in folks on joe on cap.

He'd be 40 when the movie comes out. I think that's about 10 years older than they are wanting to go for or should be wanting to go for.

He'd be that old by the time the sequels come around, they need an actual Super Soldier Serum for him.

:D

A lot of people said Robert Downey Jr. was too old to play Tony Stark when he was first announced (another choice which I was strongly in support for by the way) and now everyone seems to think Robert Downey Jr. is the perfect Tony Stark. But if they do decide to go with youth over experience I would say Chris Pine certainly seems to have the look and build to pull it off. I haven't seen Star Trek but from what I have heard he was pretty good in it.

This again? It worked with Stark because Starks origin doesnt have to do with him being a young man while with Captain America it does

Oh please stop it. You are telling me you will be in complete shock if they cast an actor who is in their late 30's for Cap?

This today:
Film Journal got an update from director Joe Johnston about his next project, Marvel Studios' The First Avenger: Captain America:

"We're in prep," Johnston says. "Rick Heinrichs is production-designing and we're set up down in Manhattan Beach [California]. It's the part of the process that I love the most," he enthuses. "We have eight or ten really talented artists, and we all just sit around all day and draw pictures and say, 'Hey, wouldn't it be cool if we could do this?' It's that phase of the production where money doesn't matter: ‘Let's put all the greatest stuff up on the wall and [then later] see what we can afford.'" The film, he says at this early stage, will begin "in 1942, 1943" during World War II. "The stuff in the ’60s and ’70s [comic books] we're sort of avoiding. We're going back to the ’40s, and then forward to what they're doing with Captain America now."

From the front page.

yes I will be surprised considering what the director has said and who they have been looking for in casting.

Even though Renner is 39 and already up for Hawkeye, after watching The Hurt Locker I can say he'd definitely pull it off.

Well we shall see. I wouldn't be surprised either way. And it all comes down to what the studio wants. If the studio knows someone like Matt Damon is interested you can bet your sweet ass he will be considered. Studios care more about money than who is the closest fit to the origin.

No one will ever fit the mold we want. Either the guy will look exactly like the many artist portrayals and be unable to act a lick, or he'll be an excellent actor, but have something we deem wrong looks-wise and will lambast for months on end.

Blah, I wish Bigelow was approached for the directors spot. Cap would have been amazing. :(

well they been doing prep work since nov and earlier too before joe was on board full time. Plus filming isnt happening for another 5+ months so between now and there will be sets going on probably within 2 months and then costumes made/props and all that.

Finally saw Hidalgo last night. I really liked it. Good story, acting & direction, I thought. We can only hope so much for FA:CA. During some of the chase/action scenes, I was heavily reminded of Raiders of the Lost Ark. My faith in JJ has been reinforced yet again!

I would. This is the story of Cap in WWII. Men over the age of 32 can't even enlist in the service, and we're supposed to buy a guy in his late 30's as an enthusiastic grunt who just signed up for the war? I don't think so.

Besides, even the present day Captain America is only about 34 at the oldest, so a guy like John Hamm is still too old to play Cap, even in that respect.

I can't say this enough: CAP IS A YOUNG MAN, NOT MIDDLE AGED!

Well take Jeremy Renner, he's 39 but I could have bought him as late 20s/early 30s in Hurt Locker. I wouldn't mind a late 30s Cap if they could pass him off as younger, but that's the oldest they should cast him. In fact I think Renner could make a great Cap, even if he's up for Hawkeye.

There are actors that look their age and those that do not. Age isn't that much a factor in my opinion if he was to look within the early twenties.

i still it will probably be an actor anywhere between the ages of 24-34 yrs old landing the role. Then by the events of the film if its spaning a few yrs i would say cap will probably start out between 21-24 yrs old and then will be like 28-29 yrs old at the end of the film before he is frozen.

I must watch Hidalgo and The Rocketeer again. Also had no idea that Joe Johnston was an Art Director for ILM back in the day, while working on Indy and Star Wars. That's awesome!!

Can't wait to see The Wolfman.
