First Avenger Directed by Joe Johnston

There are actors that look their age and those that do not. Age isn't that much a factor in my opinion if he was to look within the early twenties.

I agree. I'm not sure why they would need to limit the age of the actor to 32-34 if he is capable of portraying a wide age range. Besides, is it even necessary to mention Steve Rogers age in the movie?

well since its an origin story, and most stories for cap has him enlisted or trying to enlist at the early 20s age of most soliders of the time i dont think they would really be changing that. It just doesnt fit with how soliders were in ww2 and al lthat.

Blah, I wish Bigelow was approached for the directors spot. Cap would have been amazing. :(

I'm still kind of hoping she'll be considered for The Avengers. That being said, I'm stoked to see Johnston do Cap. He should be amazing, given his track record.

I get that it's an origin story and that in the comics, Steve Rogers enlisted at a young age, but is it really necessary to mention his exact age in the movie? Why couldn't they leave his age to the interpretation of the audience?

well yea i dont know if they will specifically state he is like 21-24 yrs old or what not. But i think it will be implyed with what is going on in the film. But i still doubt they would have cap be mid/late 30s or early 40s. It just wouldnt be right. I still say who ever is going to be cap will probably be like chris hemsworth was mid/late 20s. But we just dont know yet.

Age can be faked. Look at Casey Affleck in "Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford". He played a 19 year old. Not saying they go that route or even should. Depends on how youthful the actor looks.

Wolfman is getting mostly bad reviews; this does not bode well for our Star Spangled Avenger.

I was fearing that too. It´s getting mixed reviews apparently. Of course critics are usually harsh with horror movies, but this was supposed to be a classy old school Universal gothic horror movie that critics supposedly would like. If it flops, I dunno if the studio will still feel confident about Johnston helming CA.

But then again Zathura was a box office dud, and Jon Favreau still got to make Iron Man.

Thanks for keeping it in perspective. Zathura may have been a BO dud but it was fairly well reviewed. Now The Wolfman may not get so good reviews(at least this is initially what it's trending) but if it still makes bank at the BO then it probably won't be too big a deal. It's probably going to do about as much on opening weekend as Zathura did in it's entire run.

Iron Man wasn't as risky as Cap, IMO.

It didn´t have the "how will foreign audiences respond to a Captain AMERICA these days" factor, but IM was still considered by many a second-tier/semi-obscure superhero in terms of mainstream culture, even after buzz started to pick up there were doubts if it could make the big bucks. But then again it did.

Agreed. IM was much riskier, IMO. Cap as of right now is far better known as a property among the general public than Iron Man was prior to the 1st movie. Iron Man had never been translated into live action...EVER! Hell, even Thor got to show up in live action before. Green Lantern & Flash as well.

Well it's not like that's Joe Johnston's first and only film.

I liked October Sky a lot.
well im not gonna blame The Wolman totally on JJ. didnt he come in at the last second after they fired some other guy? i think they brought him in to try to fix what the previous guy did. maybe he just ran out of time. i still want to see The Wolfman by the way. i dig werewolves and i hear its pretty gory.

^^ JJ directed successful films before. But a studio can sometimes freak out when their director has just had a dud.

Cap was created in the forties, had movie serials, a cartoon, even those awful TV movies and that lame-o nineties movie. He´s a well-known character. People still use "Captain America" to refer to somebody that embodies the American hero/hunk ideal.

Cap also appeared in a lot of other super hero's stuff like Spider-Man TAS and X-Men Evolution.

Cap is more well known then most heroes. I remember when Cap died in the comics I even saw news stories about it.

yea and if the critics didnt really like the film if the film does well in box office it wouldnt really matter.
