First Avenger Directed by Joe Johnston

as long he doesn't sees it as another blockbuster with more effects, huge sets and costumes rather than concentrate on the character development in this i will be pleased....(since they wanna introduce a new character and not just redo stuff just to get audience)

Marvel Studios has done a really good job with all of their characters so far. There's no character I disliked in either TIH or IM. I'm sure there will be good character development in this film because Marvel plans to build upon the characters in this film as well as integrate them into the other Marvel films. If they got a lackluster Cap running around with RDJ's Iron Man and Norton's Hulk then it's just going to drag the overall product down.

Good point. But Wolfman was imo, his most entertaining film of the last 10 years. His other two entries, the films Hidalgo and Jurassic Park III were as equally emotionally distant and uninteresting in terms of characters as Wolfman. The troubled production may explain the hatchet job editing and acting (though I did like Del Toro, Weaving and Blunt, but they could have been better and Hopkins was a sleep).

But all three films have the same problems when it comes to characters and memorability.
Oops, I forgot he did Hidalgo. Well, I agree that had no memorable characters, but that and most of my other problems with the movie were really problems with the screenplay more than anything else - I thought it was rather well-directed, actually. Johnston just strikes me as one of those directors who has no problem doing justice to a decent script, but can't seem to do much to elevate a bad (or even mediocre) one.

Let's hope that the Narnia writers can deliver an awesome script. If they can't... JJ and Kevin Feige can contact me and I'll whip up a draft in a week! :oldrazz: You know the one I've been writing in my mind since that HORRIBLE 1990 Cap movie.

Lol! Me too! I remember that I dug the ideas of yours that I had read, Rage. Hope the real screenwriters are thinking along some of the same lines.

I don't really know what to expect from the Narnia guys. The quality of the Narnia films might just be from translating a source material so directly. A comic book film doesn't get that type of translation as they usually make a new story with the comics as inspiration. I think most of the film lies on the quality of the script since Johnston doesn't really elevate films with poor scripts. I hope the Narnai guys come up with something amazing.

Thanks Triad. I really hope they are on or close to the same page. The USO is something that I had also thought of putting in my movie...but their take on it is really kinda interesting (creating the character and costume for the show)

Yeah, I know a lot of people are p***ed about that, but I gotta agree with you that it's an interesting story-telling device. It's an easy way to make the 616 costume fans happy by it being his first but it evolves into their version. Also, they can show the audience some of the extents of his SSS enhancements outside of the confusing battlefield. I doubt that they will include him in any song & dance routine...at least not with him willing! Could make for a good scene, Lol! Plus it will be easier to show Steve's passion to do the right thing and fight, despite his orders.

also with the uso thing we could get his first classic suit, battlefield suit will probably end up looking something like ww2 ultimates cap/infused with 616 cap stuff. Then of course once we get to avengers film and he is in present/modern times we could get a better refined uso/616 suit that is more based off his modern comics look.

I don't buy it until we get something more substantial then that. There have been speculation that Wolfman's failure would get Johnston removed for a while now.

Marvel hired Favs despite Zathura bombing. I don't believe he is out until he is officially announced as out.

Following Messiah's post:

Has The Wolfman done what Batroc The Leaper, Baron Zemo and even Iron Man couldn't manage? New rumors are claiming that the poor box office performance of director Joe Johnston's werewolf movie may have resulted in Cap's (temporary?) demise.

Movie blog Remington's Cinema is claiming that anonymous sources from the set of John Landis' Burke and Hare are saying that Marvel/Disney have postponed the Cap project from its announced 2011 release following the flop of Johnston's The Werewolf, teasing that the decision may allow the studio to switch directors.

How this squares with recent rumors about the movie finally screen testing potential Caps is unclear, although it's possible that any possible postponement may also allow Marvel more time to find the right celluloid sentinel of liberty. Or maybe they just want to disabuse Johnston of his "Cap can sing and dance during WWII" idea...

If they do this, it maybe a blessing in disguise as they will have enough time to find the right bloke and do a real extensive search.

Since when does box office equate to a good movie? Isn't that what we always say on here? Hypocritical as the day is long.

If we follow that logic fav's would have been kicked off iron man because of zathura.

Shouldn't you credit some awesome poster for saying that a few posts ago? :cmad:

No worries man, I was just kidding with you :)

as i said in the other thread about it i doubt its true, with have casting going on now, and pre production moving frm the states to london next week. If things were not happening we would have heard it by now. And no way marvel wants to delay cap. Cause it would mess up there im3 and avengers plans.

Kathryn Bigolow would have been a great choice for director of this movie.

Trust me, people aren't saying Wolfman sucked because it underperformed financially. FAR from it. :funny:
