Days of Future Past "Director's Cut": The Official Matthew Vaughn Thread

Fox just announced their second summer 2011 movie - a Planet of the Apes prequel, set for June 24th.

So their slate for next summer is two FX-heavy prequels that they are rushing through production in only a few days longer than a year. :hehe:

They probably got a **** load of money to throw around after Avatar. At least release it in August I mean damn... oh well. Not my money.

And its WETA, so yeah, it'll b costly.

From the trilogy? Probably. From X-Men Origins: Wolverine? I hope so. Not that the actors who played a younger Cyclops and and Emma Frost did poorly, but I would like to see a fresh, new cast. It's unfortunate that we're more than likely going to lose the likes of McKellen and Stewart, though.
They'll just cgi their faces onto younger guys. :p

Yay Singer. Yay Vaughn. Boo Fox.

I think that sums up my thoughts about this recent development very succinctly. :funny: It'll be interesting to see how this goes down.

Is the world really crying out for a Planet of the Apes prequel? Whose idea was that?

Rothman.

No idea if it is, but we might as well put it onto his ever-growing list. :hehe:

Actually, done right, I think a Planet of the Apes (not Burton-ized of course) prequel could be great.

However, this is Fox and we all know what Rothman is capable of, so the likelihood of it being "done right" pretty much gets tossed in a wood-chipper.

I hope Vaughn brings in his writing partner Jane Goldman to iron out any of fox turd in the script. Janes a big marvel fans and I'm sure they would sort out any of the faults that plagued X3 and Wolverine.

I'm not sure if Fox will let Vaughn bring on Goldman, especially if Stentz and Miller are going to do on-the-fly rewrites during shooting and post-production. And I'm pretty sure Goldman wants a break after doing three adaptations in a row (Stardust, The Debt and Kick-Ass), so I'm sure she'll want a break.

Yeah, they already have those two, and I don't think they want to hire ANOTHER writer. At this point the script is basically done and Stentz and Miller are just tweaking things that Singer (and now Vaughn) may want changed.

I'm thrilled that Vaughn has signed on. The sudden release of next year is kind of surprising, then again it's not. This is Fox after all. But the script has already been written and I remember IM2 started filming 13 months before its release date.
iron man 2 was a sequel and by now they already had a cast.

how the hell is this the same? are they already filming with the full cast right now? can you please tell me why in the name of god did you just mention IM2 in your post? by what logic?

Yeah. I love how some of the skeptics are saying that even with a completed script, the movie will be rushed. Even after X2 was made on a similar schedule.

I offer you Steven Spielberg. Projects like Munich and Indiana Jones 4 were shot quickly and efficiently. Especially the former (a 160 minute film), as the movie shot from June 2005-October 2005 and was completed on time for its Christmas Day 2005 release. Granted, that movie had little to no visual effects done but still.

I don't really see a reason they can't give this film a Holiday release, though.

Seriously. It wouldn't have to compete with the summer crowd then as well. :)

I'm sure they would if there were some prime spots left in the November/December 2011 slate. M:i:IV is slated for December 16, Immortals (same demographic for X-Men) is penned for November 11. I guess if they need to, Fox can push back First Class to November 25 since no one has booked that spot yet.

But no, they need a summer 2011 tentpole. They couldn't care less about the production schedule as long as they rush it. :whatever:

Because it's a superhero movie. They it's an absolute must for it to come out in the summer.(sarcasm)

Twilight 4 is due out in November. It's basically murderers row for Fox no matter how you slice it. The 23rd before Thanksgiving would be open but that's only five days after Twilight.

I wonder if they pretty much have all the casting locked and ready to announce in the next week or so, because realistically, they are going to need to start shooting soon.

I also wonder what the budget is, I honestly wouldnt mind them bringing the budget down a bit from Wolverine because in all honesty, Wolverine wasnt a movie that NEEDED to cost $150 million, far from it. Lesser budget movies have had far more complex effects, so I wouldnt mind the budget for FC to be somewere from the $100-$125 million range.

The lower the budget, the greater chance for a sequel...so a $100-$125 million budget would keep things "down to earth" as far as costs go.

I'm remaining optimistic for this. Vaughn as Director and Singer involved - all positives. Vaughn is obviously aware of how Fox operate after the X3 fiasco but the fact that he signed in for this means he must be pretty confident in the project. Kick Ass was a great movie so I'm hoping he re-energises the X-Men saga with a similar feel for First Class.

WOnder who is going to replace Patrick Stewart. That's the one casting decision they might catch flak for. Everyone else (despite being good) I think is replacable.

HELL NO!!!

That's still preferable to summer. Twilight won't have legs, so X-Men would just need to suffer through the first weekend.

Definately, not to mention, throwing money at a movie just doesnt work in improving it, Wolverine and X3 are prime examples of this.

Keeping the budget low affords for more creative freedom, not to mention more chance of success.

The cast will probably be pretty cheap this time around. Bunch of young nobodies = savings lol

Well there going to need some big names in it otherwise who would watch it?

Personally i think they should ancore Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellan and do that de-aging thing but keep there roles small as not to draw attention to the cgi faces.

Instead the story focuses more on Cyclops's character, the love interests, the struggle to be a leader, struggling to learn about his ability...
