Days of Future Past "Director's Cut": The Official Matthew Vaughn Thread

Just get Stewart to do voice overs.

Didn't Vaughn bail on X3 after casting leaving them to hire Ratner last minute? What do they see in this guy?
Quality? All his films range from excellent to good.

Actually, done right, I think a Planet of the Apes (not Burton-ized of course) prequel could be great.
I just kind of don't see point as the film is a remake of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, and in the script it was made as a prequel to the original movie, not the Burton remake or a completely new universe. Seems really odd.

I believe they are going back even way before the Xavier school formed. The movie is supposed to be about how Magneto escaped from concentration camp and moved to USA and meet Charles. How Charles discovers his power, befriends Eric, formed the school until they had a fall out. We could see Jean, Cyclops, Emma, Beast at X academy. While Eric recruits Mystique, Toad and other baddies.

I don't think they are going to spend time on the escape from the Concentration camp.

I think this movie is going to take place in a nebulous time void.

Hopefully it picks up with Xavier and Charles meeting.

I think storm should be absent for this movie... only because i feel that Storm didnt grow up with the originals but was later added as a new character... say if you had first class then they made i dunno "X-Men Second Year" and they introduced Storm then id be happy.

I think they are going to want some diversity among the team and Storm has the history in the movie universe. Hopefully, she's the last recruit to the team that the team has their first mission to bring in.

all this talk about the orginial 5 is pointless!!!!!!!!!!! We already have confirmation that we will not see the original 5!!!!!!!!!! only the original 3 which is; Scott, Jean, Beast, hopefully Storm, since Xavier said she was an early student in X1, and whom ever they use for a 5th character/team member:Emma, Banshee, or Mystique(post giving birth to Nightcrawler)

I'm thinking Magneto will be part of the team and help take down, who ever the villian is and whatever the outcome is will prompt the falling out w/Xavier and him leaving...

I like this idea because I think Magneto will be the "Wolverine" of the team, which would be good because his anger/maleviolent ways will eventually put him @ odds w/Xavier, the team and how Cjarles is trying to teach the team not to use their powers in violent/extreme ways and when he leaves he should try and take/persuade some of them w/him & if Mystique is on the team I can c her leaving w/him(which would explain why they knew of her in X1)
and if their is a sequel we could get Scott stepping up as leader and possibly Gambit as the new "bad boy"

I love that angle on Magneto.

I think it would be cool if Mystique was one of the recruits and we see why she and Magneto have such a bond. Though Beast should still look human if that's the case. Not sure how they'll pull that off if they want him to look big.

Well there going to need some big names in it otherwise who would watch it?

Personally i think they should ancore Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellan and do that de-aging thing but keep there roles small as not to draw attention to the cgi faces.

Instead the story focuses more on Cyclops's character, the love interests, the struggle to be a leader, struggling to learn about his ability...

Yeah personally I feel they need to CGI it. I can't think of one decent named actor that can play a younger Xavier. I mean that clone of Picard in ST: Insurrection was laughable. I am sure some Brit could step in for McKellan, but Stewart's look is too unique. Maybe Jason Isaacs...

The thing is... We had X-Men Origins: Wolverine... where Patrick Stewart was given a scarey facelift... the only good thing i have to say about x3 is that Patrick Stewarts cgi facelift look less creepy than it did in the wolverine movie.

I think the role of Professor Xavier is an interesting one and your right nobody could play the part in the timeline the x-men were in, see you'll probably learn in First Class how xavier was crippled, plus his past with magneto. But the thing is when Xavier appeared at the end of wolverine movie, played by patrick stewart... he was walking so, recasting xavier at this point, where you would figure first class in timeline takes place after wolverine movie would just be too wierd.

But i have a solution...

As i said before we cast Patrick Stewart as Professor Xavier - we make his role smaller and use CGI to de-age him. We also cast a younger actor to play a younger Charles Xavier who would appear in early parts of the story where Xavier and Magneto first meet.

But again we have Cyclops and we should really follow him...

That works, only the small role would go to the younger actor playing Xavier and not Stewart. FC has to be after Origins because that's when he meets Cyclops. Meaning they need Stewart, or someone that can pull him off (which is a big if). As good as the cameo was (the CGI aside), it ****s up the timeline if they have to recast. Just scrap the movie already unless you want to make a mostly WW2 film about the big two leading up to the Brotherhood and X-Men. The mutants should be kids like its the first HP movie.

Why do people get so concerned about diversity? its like your too afraid to cast an all white group of people because the film may seem racist.

The underlining point of x-men is its simularity to the same social issue of race or sexual orientation discrimination...

Just because Storm is a black character it doesnt make the x-men team a diverse team. you are still have the 99% of the characters as white and american.

My point being is that Storms appearance in the X-Men prequels needs to fit naturally into the story and not just added because it makes it diverse.

See in my mind, Scott was a rescued mutant, Jean was sought out because of her high level of mutant power. Now magneto made a comment in x3 which went along the lines of we dont normally visit mutants what makes this one (Jean) special - well xavier knew because of how powerful she was. But that statement that magneto said made me think that all mutants found at xaviers school were brought too the school or rescued like Cyclops was.

See to me i just cant figure how Storm would fit into a story of the first x-men without them visiting africa where they find Storm... See the best way to incorporate her would be to revisit the shadow king story, if we do this though it would need to be a whole movie...But its the wrong sort of feel for First Class.

So basically we should have Second Class, or Second Year movie

Cyclops wouldn't join until year 4-5, because if the Young Jean joined the school as a kid, Scott is still years away.

or what they could do is, far as Jean in concerned, just like in the 616 universe Jean came to the mansion for visits w/Charles and it wasn't until later on she decided to stay @ the school....so in 1st class maybe after scott arrives and due to the attraction 'tween them Jean decides to stay permantely, by this time she would be 16-20 sinc in X3 she was 12/13....

with Storm, what they could do is touch upon her time in Africa as a goddess in which Xavier communicates w/her telepathically using cerebro w/o having to mention Shadow King or stick w/the idea they intended for X1 when she makes it hail/snow & the kids pick on her, chase her out of the village and from their she begins to communicate w/Charles telepathically and when she's ready she comes to America to be at the school...

I think it would be better to just ignore whatever was presented in that movie. First Class should just tie into the X-Men trilogy. Wolverine and Wolverine 2 can be their own thing.

I don't understand why any of the above with regards to recruiting mutants is even an issue. It's not that complicated.

It's called overthinking it, but yeah if they have a younger actor that can pull off Xavier convincingly then no it's not an issue. I mean they still have a few weeks/month to find that guy... :hehe:

I bet we'll here casting news in the next 2 weeks.

Seems a bit too late for that.

Is anyone else scared that it won't be finished in time for the proposed release date? I mean, Green Lantern and Thor already started filming months ago, and it seems like Thor is already nearing post-production. I can only imagine that First Class will be as big a scale as either of those movies, so I'm having trouble figuring out how this will all be done by summer of next year.

Why is that?

Because it's not what Fox wants? Hugh Jackman is playing the same version of the same character in all four movies. It's impossible to put the toothpaste back in the tube.

I'm not clear on whether First Class occurs in the same universe as the existing films or is a complete reboot. Someone help please :csad:

If you've read anything about the film it's pretty clear. . .

So you really think they are going to faithfully follow what was presented in that one scene in Wolverine for this movie? Since this movie is supposed to begin with Xavier's and Magneto's origins and continue on through to the origin of the original team, it will have to cover how the mutants who joined Xavier came to be with him.

We have confirmation of Cyclops being in this movie. Now they could show exactly as was shown in Wolverine how Cyclops came to join Xavier. Or they could go a different route with something more interesting and something that would be unique to itself. All indications point to no Patrick Stewart in this movie, and it is unknown whether the actor who played Cyclops will be in this. But, if they have an all-new cast with nobody in this movie from that scene will they seek to re-film it or just do something else?

I haven't! I'd completely given up on any future Fox X-Men films till I heard that Vaughn would be directing.

It's a prequel to the current series. Directed by Vaughn based on a story conceived by Bryan Singer. Singer is also producing.

I will make love to this man, if he can save this s***y movie series. The only really good movie so far is X2. X1 was okay, but nothing to write home about.

They didn't even "faithfully" adhere to continuity from the first 3 films with Wolverine. That said, all 4 movies are still within the same universe. There is no indication that this First Class movie is outside of said universe.
