Days of Future Past "Director's Cut": The Official Matthew Vaughn Thread

They didn't even "faithfully" adhere to continuity from the first 3 films with Wolverine. That said, all 4 movies are still within the same universe. There is no indication that this First Class movie is outside of said universe.

I didn't say that it won't be in the same universe, as all points seem to indicate that it will be. As you said, Wolverine didn't exactly follow the continuity of the first three films, so why should First Class worry about following Wolverine? They should concern themselves with having First Class follow the continuity of the original three films and not let one scene in a spin-off derail them from what they want to do.

It's a prequel to the current series. Directed by Vaughn based on a story conceived by Bryan Singer. Singer is also producing.
Thanks. That team could work!

So I guess they'll use Cyke, Jean, Beast (not Iceman or Angel) & anyone who's old enough maybe Storm, Emma, Gambit or Wolverine (small cameo max only please).

My question is this; if this is a prequel to Singer's first film, yet technically a reboot of the franchise, how are they going to do a sequel to First Class and yet let that sequel also be a prequel to 2000's X-Men?

Unless, this is a one and done film and then we'll get X4, directed by Singer...

Well, thats why this movie will go back to the beginning with Charles and Eric discovering their power up until they formed the school. This way if the movie isn't successful then they can leave it at that or if there is X-men : Second class then they can explore X academy students then X-men : Third class with the original students becoming teachers like we saw in X-men.

Exactly, it's quite easy to either make this a one time deal or continue, as the current X-Men trilogy is when they are all quite a bit older than they will be in First Class.

I'd rather First Class be a one-off and then get on with X4, personally. Hopefully seeds are planted in First Class that can play out later.

I would really hope they would use CGI to allow patrick Stewart to play
Xavier. He was pefert as Xavier. One of the best parts of Wolverine for me was
his cameo. As great as Ian Mckellan was I am more prepared for a magneto
recast.

Just as Star Trek spent time on the Birth of Kirk and Kirk and Spock's boyhood(which cut cut down In finished film than from what was shot) First Class will
likely show Xavier and Magneto meeting and the beging of their friendship
before jumping to them at the school with student after Xavier and Magneto going to Jean's house at the beging of The Last Stand, and Xavier rescuring
Cyclops and the others at end of wolverine(although I doudt any reference to The Last STand or Wolverine will be made) where the bulk of the film takes place. My perfernce would be younger actor for Xavier for first scenes with Magneto and then Stewart with deaging CGI for the school and later scenes.

Sorry, terribly disagree. It takes FOREVER to use CGI to make Patrick look young and it takes a lot of money. He looked terrible in Wolverine and I couldn't stand to see that for 120 minutes. He looked like a plastic living doll at the end of Wolverine...it was creepy and the CGI was terrible.

I think he should do a voice over at the end but either have Patrick looking the way he is now, or hire a younger actor to play Xavier.

have you guys considered that it may take to much $ to cgi Patrick & Ian for half of a film? I'm thinking whoever they (re)cast as Charles & Eric they may use makeup-prosetics to age them a little bit, maybe around 40-50 yrs of age, since it would be a 'lil bit cheaper and in the original trilogy it seemed as if both men are 60-70 yrs old

i think both men will not be in their twenties, but probably in their early thirties, since in TLS it looked like they were in their late 40s' early 50s' when they met Jean

Yeah, they will get an actor like Danny Huston, maybe two actors each. One for a prequel, and reserve actors to play the older versions that can possibly step into X-4. Or they can do as Phoenix said, get dudes that can play teenagers/young adults and 35 year olds, but the makeup can only do so much.

Xavier and Magneto will likely be the two most prominant characters. They need to be recast, digital de-aging isn't a magical fountain of youth.

In all likelyhood they will cast actors who are In 40's who can also pass with makeup
for 20ish at the begining. While It Is my prefernce to use patrick Stewart again I know the odds are slim that will happen.

That's still preferable to summer. Twilight won't have legs, so X-Men would just need to suffer through the first weekend.

I absolutely agree with him. The Twilight movies have had huge dropoffs in their second and third weekends. X-Men would take a big chunk out of the second weekend gross.

The last 2 X-Men films have also had HUGE 2nd week drops. If this film gets great reviews (Like Vaughn's other movies) then maybe that wont happen as word of mouth always plays a huge role.

Uh if Fox continues to push out crappy X-Men movies, then the weekend opening will drop and it will continue to have a huge second week drop.

Please for the love of God, no Wolverine cameo. This is X-Men, not the continuing adventures of ****ing out Wolverine.

Especially if he winds up doing this in his cameo...

Thats the thing that really pisses me off about the X-film series. They've done everything so ass-backward. Throughout all three X-Men films, they were played off as "Wolverine and his Amazing Friends", instead of an actual X-Men movie. Then, once Fox decides to spin Wolverine off in his own solo films, instead of doing a full-on bonafide badass Wolverine solo film, they decided to jam as many random mutants as they could, whether they needed to be there or not. And dont even get me started on that idiotic title... why, oh why could they not just leave it at "Wolverine". Were they afraid that wouldn't bring in enough money?! Stupid....

If this First Class film goes forward, Wolverine has absolutely no place in it... which leads me to believe Fox will jam him in anyway. :csad:

Wolverine should be no where near this movie series.

I think this will be a trilogy - the first will be the Charles and Eric working together collecting mutants and forming the school. The second will be the beginnings of their split, and the third will be Eric and his brother hood as an organized opposition to Charles and his X-Men.

Perhaps Mr. Sinister will be instrumental in Eric turning bad...

I'm not sure this storyline of Xavier/Magneto would need to be stretched out quite that much... I think it can probably all be done in one film and maybe a second just to show the early days of the brotherhood vs. the X-Men. No need for the Xavier/Magneto split to take up two films.

Hey, Star Wars Ep.1-3 didn't "need" to take three films, but it did. Sure, they can do it all in one if they wish, but I don't think they will.
