The Dark Knight Rises Discussing the Third Movie and 3D

Batman doesn't need 3D and Batman isn't Avatsr.

F&$K 3-D, and F#$K people who pay to see movies in 3-D
But other than that, 3D is pretty cool, right bro?

Doubtful they'll film in 3D, as it would have to be filmed digitally, which I believe Nolan has expressed an aversion to.
Very valid point. Nolan's traditional at heart, and I doubt he'll be switching to digital anytime soon. Not worried either way though, I doubt 3D (native or not) would do much for Nolan's directorial style.

My only concern is they won't make any IMAX 2D screens available.

That is a major concern of mine as well. The IMAX footage from TDK looked amazing (particularly those limited scenes shot with the IMAX Camera) and it was something I was looking forward too in the next film.

Simple....just cover one side of the glasses.

OMG... what a tragedy...:o

*waits eagerly for the comments after playing Batman Arkham Asylum game of the year edition in 3D*

For some reason i have a hard time taking this for real. Nolan has stated plenty of times about his interests in IMAX and now suddenly it's going to be 3D? Is WB forcing this or what?

Once again....releasing a movie for 3D theaters doesn't always mean that it has to be shot for 3D. So it's very possible that it won't affect Nolan's work on the film very much if at all.

Oh right. I wish i had common sense. :(

One of the things I fear most is that even if there are also 2D versions some theaters will start only showing 3D.

Well...if it's catching on the way that some feel it is, it'll be like that across the board soon enough anyway. So it's not like they'd purposely wait until AFTER one of the biggest franchises of all time was done playing before trying to capitalize on the new fad.

Science Fiction and Fantasy movies in 3D - Acceptable

Crime Drama - UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH NO!

So....Batman jumping off that huge skyscraper (shot from above with the ground disappearing into the depths), gliding through the air amongst the rooftops, zipping through alleyways and even building lobbies on the Batpod, chasing cars and trucks through tunnels and underpasses shot at ground level and moving with the vehicles, and being bungie-cord-extracted by airplane from the xxth floor of a building wouldn't be suited to 3D? :O

before you know it, there will be oscar category best 3d

If you don't wanna watch in 3d then don't. No one is making anyone see the movie in 3D.

But the people will be spending too much time trying to "3d" it, and they loose focus on the more important stuff

Not with Nolan's gritty style and the fact that we have no clue that anything of that magnitude will be included in the 3rd film. There most likely will, but we dont know fo sho. All that needs to be done is shooting the entire movie in IMAX. No 3D, just beautiful IMAX resolution. Now that will make everyone happy.

Well...we got it in the second film. And 'gritty' or not...it was still just as exciting and visually energetic as any 'more suitable' sci-fi-ish stuff out there. So I don't see how it makes it any less worthy of 3D. If anything, it should lend itself more to the experience by actually putting us 'in there' even more.

Shooting entirely in IMAX will be much less likely, just from a practicality and cost standpoint (as we've discussed in an earlier thread). Now...I'm in no rush to make a big transition to 3D either...but despite Nolan's Batman films not being futuristic-CG-extravanganzas, they're by no means unsuitable for 3D. I mean...who wouldn't want to feel like the muzzles on those Batpod guns were just inches away from your face as it weaved its way through cars and debris?

Edit: The hallucination effects that Bruce had while training with the League Of Shadows probably wouldn't be to shabby in 3D either. :O

I don't see how 3-D will enhance Nolan's work, but then again I'm sure it would detract from it either. I guess we'll just have to see. I do wonder how Nolan will react to this, since it appears he has no say in the matter.

If it's the process that's done after the film is mastered (in 2D), he might not have to.

Plus...it's not like they won't show it in regular 2D theaters at all, which still make up the majority of venues around the world....and not want to sell those tickets.

True. But who knows, he might really hate 3D. :cwink:

Will definitely be skipping the gimmicky 3D.

Well I just hope there are some IMAX showings in 2D. I'm holding out hope that if Nolan shoots this thing on IMAX cameras again (which was most likely, last time I checked), WB will present it the way it was meant to be seen, and not with some distracting 3D transfer.
