Maybe it would have helped if women (not to mention black women) had been allowed to vote or if black people had been allowed access to quality education or, gee, maybe sit in the same hotel or restaurant.

I confess that, for a big part of our nation's history, there may not have been as many qualified PoC of any kind, but methinks that says more about the country than the people.

When Riordan wrote the books white kids were the majority and now they are not. So the audience for these children's books (and now shows and movies) are not white.

You can call it commercialist, capitalist-driven changes, and we've also seen the opposite over the years where non-white characters were cast to be performed by white actors for the white majority audience. I don't like changing characters for the sake of changing characters, but young non-white actors have got to get work and that's also who the audience is now: the majority.
