Godless grifters: How the New Atheists merged with the far right (June 2021)

The whole ‘organized atheism’ movement has always perplexed me and is grifty as any other religion.
Pedantically speaking, the only thing atheists need to have in common is a shared disbelief in gods. Beyond that, there’s no requirement to share the same political, social or cultural opinions. Even so, the atheists cited by Torres tend to lean left (some far left, some center left). Certainly, they’re not conservatives — much less representatives of the “far right.”

I don't know what kind of penalties he may be facing, but I think it needs to be pretty severe. We have enough problems with hate crimes as it is without someone pulling this kind of carp. There are people out there looking for reasons to not believe this sort of thing happens and we shouldn't be giving them another one.

Yeah like the women who lie about rape make it harder for real victims to be taken seriously.

And everytime he's confronted about it he doubles down. :wall:

Greene just continuing Boebert's trend of shouting disgusting Islamaphobia on the House floor. And she's also just admitting that she knows Israel is waging a racist war of oppression against Palestinians. Which she's a big fan of, of course.

No,no,no,no. The goal is to make slavery seem like a good thing.
The slaves were actually happy workers who were revered by their Southern masters for the booming economy in the South.

That is some "all lives matter" bull**** for slavery.
Texas tried this bull**** several years ago where they wanted slaves to be rewritten as "immigrant workers" and how they were not forced to cross the ocean in barbaric, tortorous conditions to be abused and mistreated for centuries.

It didn't get very far and the books were not rewritten to minimize slavery. Today though, this **** might actually happen because the Republicans are not even trying to hide their attempts to rewrite history anymore.

Yep we go from "Was the Civil War really just about Slavery?" to "Did Slavery actually happen?"

I don't think the Civil War had anything to do with morality, but, rather, was an economic imperative. In order for growth to take place, we needed a larger pool of labor and the resulting increase in revenues.

Of course the South wanted to retain the slave labor because it was essential to its economy, but they had several opportunities to wean off it. Also didn't help that we could have freed the slaves back in the Revolution era.
