Disney in talks to buy Fox: X-Men Homecoming? - Part 1

Fox had a good run. They reinvigorated the superhero movie craze and gave us some great films.

I will look back fondly on this 17 year period. But now it’s time to see what mahvel baby can do!

Yeah, I'll always give them credit for that.

But time to look forward now!

Is this not a good thing?
Depends. If some are on the bandwagon of thinking that James Murdoch was going to get the position as part of the negotiations, then no.

To me, yes and no. Yes because they will need his leadership to steer through the process and integration. No because it further delays in bringing his successor in and getting them going. That person is going to have a lot of pressure to see the company forward post Iger.

I don't find this very concerning. James Murdoch was never going to get the position.

He's still going to get a high level position though. He will be a good fit to oversee the growth of the international assets since those are his babies.

That's not a good thing, that's a great thing. Iger is the best in the business, Marvel, Lucafilm, Pixar, Shanghai Disney Park and now Fox. You keep that guy as long as he wants.

I agree. There is no questioning his track record. What he has accomplished with Disney is phenomenal. The concern I would have is the delay in succession as the company has to start looking beyond his tenure, especially with the growth it will have.

They need to get that person, whoever they are, more involved with him and his day to day running the company.

He can't walk away just at the time Disney is about to have it all.

And they can't just stick James Murdoch in there at the top either. They need stability during this period.

Is it better to have him there during the handover process?

I just want to know what the people arguing that this deal would be a bad thing for the entire movie industry (Twitter is full of them) expect us fans to do. Write angry letters at the Murdochs? Seriously, what?

Insult excited fans all you want, keep telling us that we "just don't understand the implicashuns!", none of that will stop the Murdochs from selling.

I’m one of those!

Also New Mutants is gonna be a trilogy.

LATEST: Comcast continues to pursue 21st Century Fox assets; Fox continues to view Disney as superior bid - sources

What are Comcast going to do with the X-Men and FF? Marvel would be mad to let that go to them somehow.

If Comcast gets anything, I think it will be a split deal in which they get some assets and Disney gets others. I don't see Comcast doing a full buy-out.

I'm sure Fox has their reasons for going with Disney. That puts all of the power in Disney's hands.

Now, if Disney decides to sit down with Universal to discuss a deal, for say, some rights they don't use, or some they do, I'm sure they could come to an arrangement.

Eh, Marvel has yet to produce a villain as good as either Magneto.

Well, Fox has not duplicated their success with other villains, so it seems they can’t either.

And Magneto got better with further fleshed-out appearances expanding his character.

Magento’s First debut was great, but it’s only a matter of opinion his first appearance is better than say Loki’s or Vulture’s.

Marvel villains may have been weak but how would a ranking go of all the MCU heroes against all the Fox Men heroes? Where would Cyclops, Storm and Rogue come against heroes of equivalent importance for Marvel? It's much more important to get heroes right as they keep returning while villains aren't supposed to.

I don't find this very concerning. James Murdoch was never going to get the position.

Another report from yesterday said James want to lead the international assets such as Sky and Star India, which he helped build.
