Because the deal can still be blocked.

Disney will have to pay Fox 2.5 billion if this deal isn’t approved. The fact that they went ahead with it anyway means that they’re very confident of its approval.

Right, but there's still a chance of corporate mergers getting blocked. It happened with AT&T and T-Mobile. It happened with AT&T and Time Warner.

Obviously they are confident it will go through. But that doesn't mean they will be able to make deals on the assets beforehand. The transaction still isn't complete.

Is there even going to be an X-Force movie at this point from Fox?

Iger did say they would keep Deadpool R-rated, so it is possible that we can get an X-Force movie via the FOX brand and adopt Deadpool into the MCU. I think he is the only one that can crossover and not be an issue.

If Deadpool 2 performs anywhere near as well as the initial installment, my guess is yes.

The main point I was making is that Fox and Disney/Marvel have collaborated in the past and there's no reason to suggest that collaboration has to come to an end for the next 12 to 18 months.

Hi boys and girls. Can you spell "side deals"? I knew you could.

It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood.

Disney gets Kl'rt for Captain Marvel, Fox gets Taskmaster for X-Force
Yeah that's not gonna happen. Why even put Taskmaster in X-Force?

Fox could conceivably make an X-Force movie, but they'd have to get started soon.

I mean, they could still want to make the movie after the buyout is complete, but there's no telling what form it would take.

If you are restarting an X-Men cinematic universe under the MCU, why would you want X-Force at the same time?

When do companies make side deals on assets for a corporate merger like this? Do you have some examples?

All the deals people are talking about by comparison took place outside of corporate mergers between two independent companies.

What if Disney looks at Ryan Reynolds and thinks that while he's valuable for the Deadpool brand he's even a better fit in keeping another franchise MCU character going?

RDJ's salary is an issue. As is his age.

Enter... Ryon Man.

I could see Reynolds slipping into Tony Stark without breaking a sweat.

Usage of characters isn't going to be a problem because it will benefit both companies. The landscape has changed.

I hadn't thought of it before, but, yeah, Reynolds would have been a great IM. Though there might be an issue if they decided include BW.

No, keep that Deadpool money train rocking!

Ryan Reynolds wanted him. From Comicbook.com:

When he was asked what characters they wanted that they couldn't include, Reynolds echoed Director Tim Miller's reply, instantly saying "Taskmaster. We all [wanted him]." Unfortunately for them, it appears the movie rights to the character have gone back to Marvel Studios. When the filmmakers contacted 20th Century Fox about it, "the studio just called us back and said 'cha-ching.'" And that was it.

Because the Deadpool/X-Force series may continue on under Disney while X-Men proper is rebooted. I doubt the Mouse is planning to ditch Reynolds.

Wow, whoever thought this day would come? On the heels of the 10th anniversary of the MCU no less. This is just an incredible accomplishment, and I hope that the opportunity is not squandered.

Yeah but that was a situation between two separate autonomous studio entities. Now because Disney is going through the process of acquiring the assets, things like that will be in a holding period. They will not be allowed to make a move like that until government approves the sale.
They can't make a move regarding ownership though. The difference is that Marvel (as a Disney subsidiary) is the ultimate legal owner of those rights, whereas Fox is merely a holder. This is a very unique situation where the owner had sold the license and would be asking for permission to use its own property. It's almost comical.

Disney and 21st Century Fox have made a sale for Disney to buy all these assets. It doesn't make sense to make a separate deal that supercedes that. What if the government blocks the deal? Then Fox still owns all those film rights.
In a sharing deal, Fox would still hold those rights. No transfer is involved. So even if the deal was blocked, nothing has changed.

I take that to mean any profit FOX makes off their movie slate from the time the agreement was signed up until it is passed by the government goes to Disney once approved.
That seems to be the correct assessment.

Both happened under a different administration. There's very little chance of this getting blocked. ATT and T-Mobile represented more of a problem to consumers, and was understandable. If this effects anyone it's the theater chains as Disney has pretty strict rules about box office royalties, but it doesn't directly effect consumers.

Utility companies tend to get more scrutinized during any deals as well due to past abuses.

It’ll still take 12-18 months. And that’s ok. There is no rush.

I figured that to be the case as well, but is the agreement signed when they agreed to terms or when they file with the DOJ?

Not if you read the comments here. Some come off like they want the ending of BP to be reshot with the FF showing up to help. :)
