Disney Movie Appreciation Thread - Part 1

I just finished watching "Lilo and Stitch" today for the first time in a long time. That really is a modern classic.

I want to watch Hunchback of Noterdam again now.
Henry Cavill as Prince Eric. :sly:

I saw this movie again just to hear the voice of this guy in a Disney movie.

Minus the hilarious ham.

Yeah, it's about time Aladdin got a Blu-ray release. It's one of the only films I've owned on VHS, DVD and Blu-ray, but it's worth the triple-dip because it's such a classic.

I'm picking up the Best Buy exclusive version this week.

I'm just upset it didn't get a limited 3D run in theaters the escape from the cave of wonders scene would be great in 3D.

i really want that slipcover from Best Buy, but i had already preordered this from Disney Movie Club as a commitment :(

I finally got Aladdin Diamond Edition, the wait is over !!! YES my diamond edition is forever growing.

Man, recently I watched Disney's new live action Cinderella and I'm super impressed with the film especially with Lily James whom I'd be too tempted to embarrass myself and propose to if I met in person.

But not only was she great in the film but Cate Blanchett and the actor for Kit/Prince Charming was great too. Anytime those 3 interacted, it made for memorable scenes in the film.

Now onto older films, When I watched Tarzan month ago, I forgot just HOW awesome that film was. Not only was the story pretty much faithful to Edgar Rice Burroughs' original character but that Phil Collins soundtrack became the heart and soul of that film. Still one of my top 5 Disney films, live action or Animated.

Tarzan is a great action packed film with darn good animation and songs too.

I didn't realize the Best Buy version changed when you moved it or I would have gotten it, but I think they did a good job with the regular cover too.

Also was it me or is the version of "Friend Like Me" on the blu Ray a different edit than what's on the original release?

I thought that that was obvious. "That character" even kind of sounds like Genie when he talks. Anyway is the Diamond Edition Blu-ray for Aladdin out yet (or if not, when does it come out)?

I liked Cinderella well-enough, but I didn't love it. It's well-shot, well-directed, well-acted, the effects look nice, etc. But I've just never been a big fan of Cinderella in general (for various reasons). Really my favorite take was Ever After, because it did something different with the story (and finally made the two leads even remotely interesting to me).

In terms of Disney's live-action stuff, I'm actually looking forward to The Jungle Book, Beauty & the Beast, and Mulan much more.

My wife and I just joined Disney Movie Club (again). Eventually, we should have just about all of the movies covered (the "classics" at least). I keep missing Pinocchio every time it is released (on dvd and blu ray), so hopefully that'll get s rerelease on blu ray at some point in the future.

Oh I'm definitely looking forward to Jungle Book, Beauty and The Beast and Mulan more so after that(I'm also looking forward to Andy Serkis's Kipling Faithful Jungle Book as well but that's another story). I've never been a Cinderella aficionado but over time either due to the influence of my mother or school teachers, I've seen several versions. With that said, if anything I can definitely one Cinderella take besides the Brandy version that I'm excited about rewatching. Not to mention, me being clueless on Lily James despite my mom watching downtown Abby, it has introduced me to an unbelievably lovely actress in Lily James that I'm now officially a fan of thanks to this film....I feel like a moron for not knowing about her until now.

It should be next up on the release schedule. :yay:

I didn't know this was one of the questions people had, but it's answered as well as some others...

‘Aladdin’ Fan Theory About Genie Finally Confirmed
So the Genie finally gets his freedom back after ten thousand years of slavery, and he decides that the best thing he could do with his time is going around in the body of an old man selling stuff and talking to an unseen audience?

Woah Genie, what a waste of cosmic powers you are. :o

Well I guess part of being free is having bills to pay so even genie had to find himself a job (which includes selling useless sh**)

I have a 'Making of Aladdin' book that came out when the movie did, and I think it said in there that the peddler was supposed to be the Genie in disguise but it got edited out of the movie. Robin Williams isn't mentioned in the book, only referred to as "the actor who voiced the Genie".

Why not? His character seems to enjoy interacting with people and he's a huckster at heart. There's no telling how long ago the Aladdin story happened when we meet him at the start of the movie, it could have been a few hundred years. Maybe he got bored and decided to roam among the mortals for a bit.

It's been years since I've seen that one. I can barely remember it

Skipped it when it was released under the diamond collection so I guess I'll pick it up this time. Not one of my favorites but I'm working on at least having all the "big" classics.
