Disney's live-action Pinocchio

I'm pretty meh on Pinocchio, Dumbo and Pooh being adapted as I'm not too fond of the former two and Pooh I just don't see the point. But, bring me Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, The Little Mermaid and more from that line in the vein of Cinderella and I'm satisfied. Just...less Maleficent and Alice in Wonderland trying to be weird and epic and sucking anything you like out of the characters, more Cinderella where the film actually improves on the original.

Cinderella was great, so I'm excited for BatB and maybe The Little Mermaid. Pooh, Dumbo, and Pinnochio just dont need to be done.

One can't compare Pooh and Dumbo to Pinocchio, really. The latter can be told in a much darker way.

Actually yeah I agree with you. Pinnochio has more potential imo, than Dumbo or Pooh

So let's see:
We got
Beauty & The Beast
The Little Mermaid
Mulan
Winnie The Pooh
Dumbo
Pinocchio...

stahp.
Joining the ranks of Jungle Book, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Alice.

Was there a Disney Snow White?

Two films, one of then had Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth.
Has this seriously went by without you knowing?

Neither by Disney.

Neither of those Snow White films were by Disney.

Still think it's because Disney believes kids don't want to watch 2D cartoon movies any more, and they're just trying to stay in the children's entertainment game. They might not care if kids don't want to watch the classic Pinocchio cartoon any more if they can still sell them a new version.

I remember watching live action Pinocchio movie with Jonathan Taylor Thomas it was good movie. if they can make lord of the rings I would suggest an live action Aladdin movie it could be like lord of the rings type movie. I think it would do well with kids and adults who watch the cartoon growing up it could be like lord of the rings meets the hobbit meets clash of Titians.

I'm looking forward more to Pooh Bear than Pinocchio. :oldrazz:

I completely agree. I guess Disney is watching the reaction to all the news about batb and mulan and thought oh well maybe we should diversify the demographics a bit.

I personally don't think it's as exciting because I just love that Disney is the only studio making big budget movies starring women (beside the odd young adult flick) and I want more studios to do the same.

Paul Thomas Anderson Cuts Ties with ‘Pinocchio’ Project
Things have been pretty quiet on the front of Warner Bros.’ live-action Pinocchio picture ever since Paul Thomas Anderson was reported to be writing and possibly directing the adaptation. While the addition of an auteur like Anderson would have given the film a huge PR boost, it’s now looking like he won’t be directing after all. There’s no word on whether or not Anderson’s script for the film is still in process, or even if it will be used at all. If and when another director steps in, they’ll likely want to tailor it more to their vision as a solely Paul Thomas Anderson-written script without Paul Thomas Anderson in the director’s chair could prove unwieldy; Anderson has never written something, even a video short, that he didn’t also direct.

Then again, Warner Bros.’ Pinocchio still has Robert Downey Jr. attached, and that guy’s no slouch. But keep in mind that the studio heads are now looking at this adaptation in light of the disastrous box office and critical performance of Joe Wright’s Pan which has yet to even earn back its budget. If Hugh Jackman couldn’t draw audiences in, I’m not sure if RDJ’s name on the marquee will be enough; WB likely feels the same at the moment, but that’s neither been confirmed nor denied.
So while Warner Bros.’ Pinocchio project remains rather lifeless, Disney also has a similar movie in the works. We haven’t heard much on that film since April of this year. There’s also a stop-motion Pinocchio project from Guillermo del Toro that’s been tinkered with for quite some time. At this point, it’s anyone’s guess just which project will be the first to bring the titular wooden doll to life on the big screen.

Couldn't find a thread on WB's version but pretty sure after the failure of Pan they probably said forget it.

Bad news. Now I'm not looking forward to this as much. :(

It seems like people only give a crap about these live action re-imagined fairy tales if Disney is behind them.

I just saw baby driver and I reckon lily James would be an amazing blue fairy.

I wonder if this version will have a talking cat?

I can't really picture how they're going to pull this one off.

Will they stick to the original story or use the Disney version? Because the original is super weird.

Not really seeing them adapting the original novel. Maybe taking a few elements from it, but it'd be way too dark for what I think Disney has in mind.

As Gepetto apparently they are trying to get Robert Downey, Jr. but will RDJ even want to play the role?

My pick for Pinocchio would be Jacob Tremblay and for Gepetto I would go with Sir Anthony Hopkins

Jiminy Cricket I would go with Sir Michael Caine

Blue Fairy I would go with Gina Rodriguez

Lily James is already Cinderella.

It's not a shared universe, some characters can play more than one role

I can't really picture how they're going to pull this one off.

Really? I reckon it's got to be one of the easiest. If they can do the jungle book then they can do this super easy

I would imagine the Disney version

I could see them getting Jack Mcbrayer as Jiminy. Love the Gina idea! I reckon Gepetto should be a tad younger I think. More of a dad age not a grandpa age. Although it might be fun to have an older blue fairy actually.

Oh my gosh imagine how cool it would be if they got Selma Hayek for the Blue Fairy!

I'm sure they know what they're doing. I just can't picture it at the moment. If someone told me they would go for photo realistic animals with human voices for Jungle Book I would have been able to picture it.
