I have a best friend who was the drummer in my band for years and we have become more like brothers. My fiance I also consider one as well because never in my life did I think I could be SO open and myself with a member of the opposite sex.

I remember back in 4th grade there was this dude that I basically used to verbally spar with all the time, we were somewhat rivals. Yet we ended up being pretty close friends, even if he did tell me I looked like Count Duckula. Back when Duckula was popular.

I have about 10+ friends whom I can call good, close or best friends. I adore, appreciate and love them unconditionally. It's a great circle of mostly gay men and one straight man (which means I need more straight guys to balance it out! Haha) of diverse ages and backgrounds, and they can actually monopolise my attention individually. Being deaf is part of the reason so as to give them better focus one-on-one and vice versa than in a group.

I founded them all after high school: I had quite a few great friends in school, but you know, faded away to insignificance in my burgeoning adult years, though I keep in occasional contact with some of them.

Funny, I can't see my partner as a best friend. Significant others are in a league of their own anyway.

This is an interesting topic because the movies and television shows always have the concept of 'best friend' who is fairly important to the main character's drama and the friends that these characters have always seem to be more selective, admittedly necessarily so, than in real life.
