Have you ever read the Owl/Octopus War arc in Peter Parker the Spectacular Spider-Man? I think it was written by Bill Mantlo. It features Ock at his malevolent best.

And Erik Larsen had a pretty good take on Otto was well, he gave us the Armani suits, after all.

Of course. I proudly own them, too. Essential Doc Ock reading they are.

I'm talking about writers who wrote several different stories/arcs about Doc Ock over time. Stan Lee and Bendis are the two most successful at consistently delivering fantastic renditions of him. Always making him badass and a hardcore threat.

New topic, then. So, once Doc Ock gets healed, what outfit should he wear? Should he go back to the Ramos trenchcoat? Armani suits? Classic green and orange tights? Or something new?

I'm thinking Armani: It's classy, stylish, and totally Ock. That's just my opinion :P

Yeah, I think we all want to see the armani suit back again. Preferably the white one.

I wouldnt mind him usung the trench coat once in a while but the suit was best.

Well my fellow Ottophiles, I finally have a new drawing I can post:

So who does everyone think was/is the best voice actor to portray Doctor Octopus? We've got Michael Bell as Ock in Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, Ephraim Zembalist in the 90's animated series and Peter MacNichol in Spectacular. Does anyone know who did Ocks voice in the 60's Spider-Man cartoon?

I guess I'll go with Peter MacNichols. I liked Efrem's voice, it had a great menacing quality, but I never knew what to make of the German accent. Peter gives him more of a human quality, while Efrem's was a little cartoony. Then again, it helps that the villains are better written in Spectacular was they were in The Animated Series.

MacNichols is my favorite voice for animated Doc Ock.

I guess I'll go with Peter MacNichols, but Ephraim Zembalist did a great job, if you ask me.

I think MacNichols' performance is near perfect for Ock. I've said before about how MacNichol was able to take Otto from nebbish, meek scientist to evil genius with the delivery of one line (Silence! You imperious moron!). Zembalist did a fine job but the German accent made no sense considering that Octavius is an Italian surname.

This. MacNichol's is fantastic. He delivers Ock's dialogue with such sublime relish.

Ock: "SILENCE!!!! You imperious MORON!!!!!"
Ock: "Rhino, you won the coin toss. Will you crush his skull, or simply impale his heart on your horn?"

Btw, love the pic, MP.

Agreed!

Thats true. I assumed he used a German accent because Otto is a German name. Plus, Otto being a German scientist does give him an extra "evil factor.":o

Another great line from MacNichol as Ock:
"Apologies, Rhino. But we're doing this MY way!"

As I've often said, anyone can be evil with a German accent...

...but it takes talent to be a villain from a town called Schenectady.

:otto:

That's why I'd like to see Stunner return as a villain in her own right. There's lots of room for character development with her, and her relationship with Ock. It occurred to me today that Ock is likely sterile from the radiation exposure that grafted the tentacle harness to him. How would that effect a man who is now dying, and how would Angelina feel about it? Sadly, with Quesada as EIC, we'll never know.

Hahahaha, Brian, I don't think children ever figured into Doc Ock's grand plans for the future. Even when he was with Stunner. I don't think they'd be model parents anyway lol.

Speaking of bad parenting, which version of Otto's mother's demise did you guys prefer? The one in Spider-Man Unlimited #3, where he shouts at her so badly over dating a man that she has a heart attack? Or the one where he seemingly attacks her when he finds out she's been dating a man in Doc Ock Year One? I love the one from Year One more. It's more twisted to think he attacked her:
