World Doc Ock's Lair v2

Wow, a comic issue I'm actually looking forward to a little?

Ock sending giant Octobots to attack New York. Spidey and the Avengers being called in to handle it.

What's not to love? :awesome: It's good to see Ock really shaking things up in Spidey's world lately.

I just found out that Dr. Octopus, or Dr. Pulpo, appears in the second issue of El Asombroso Hombre Araña, which is the Spanish version of The Amazing Spider-Man. Now, you Ock fans should know that his first appearance in American comics was The Amazing Spider-Man #3. So while Dr. Octopus is pretty bad ass, Dr. Pulpo is so cool he told the Buitre to **** off and he took his issue. Long live Dr. Pulpo.

Anyone remember Ock from The Animated Series? He was amazing in that show, I loved his accent too!

I especially loved the 2 episodes with Sinister 6:

I think the less said about the 90's series the better. I hated that they reduced Ock to being a flunky for the Kingpin. Spectacular Spider Man did Ock, and the Sinister Six much better, IMHO.

Spider-Man: TAS sucks to this day. You know they never hired someone to be the voice of the Chameleon?

TAS did have some good episodes, most of them from season one. But overall it was horrible. That said, Ock's first episode, Armed and Dangerous, was awesome.

You mean the Insidious Six? :hehe:

I like the show myself, but it started to get way too out there for Spidey in season 3 and took a nosedive in seasons 4 and 5. But I'm nostalgic for it so I still like it, but TSSM and its Doc Ock were way better.

I think they kept Chameleon silent to keep him similar to the way he was written in the comics at the time. Dmitri had no personality, no concept of himself, as he only took on the personalities of the people he was imitating.

Yes, the animation was repetitive and the cops were forced to use lazer weapons instead of bullet firing guns. None of which is the fault of the writers or animators. Marvel was bankrupt at the time and they had to produce the show on a limited budget. The strict censors at FOX didnt allow the animators to use guns, because they thought kids would try to imitate the gun usage.

^^^ You must have hated how the Hobgoblin came before the Green Goblin.

Nah, it didnt bother me. I loved both the Hobgoblin and Green Goblin in TAS. You want to hear a shocking secret? I actually thought that GG was overused in that series.

Well, to be fair, GG is a bit overused now. But I do agree with you though.

I dont know if Norman himself is overused exactly, bu I think too many characters are connected to him. IE, Sandman being made his cousin, Sundown (a pretty pointless character that I just learned about) gaining his power from a modified Goblin Formula, Menace and I'm sure that I'm forgetting a few.Cant some villains come about in their own right, or at least be connected to other supervillains? I'm tired of writers trying to attach their lame character to Osborn in an attempt to make them popular.

Oh and there was the Headsman and the flame throwing guy that showed up in Untold Tales.

For serious. And I'm hanging a hope on this arc restoring Ock to something more like his normal self. I am NOT fond of corpse-Ock. :P

Am reading Adam Troy-Castro's double Sinister Six novel again, in between a really excellent "young adult" crypto-drama novel called Maze Runners (it's like "Lost" meets Cube). Good stuff (both).

I loved it when the Gentleman gives Ock his tentacles back and Otto is ready to kill him: "I ought to kill you a thousand times for every minute you kept them locked up and out of my control."

Can't wait for Big Time! However, looking at the teaser images, it seems Ock's is still a mummy :csad: Though him tearing up the city will make me look past that. Octobots look awesome, though I wonder what his big plan will be with them :otto:

As for origin of the species, I have a question. Diablo, who has been appearing alongside Spidey's rogues in this arc usually goes against the FF. And the guy can make healing potions, immortality serums, alchemicic mixtures etc. So why doesn't ock just get help from Diablo instead of going through the whole trouble of getting a baby that would proberly cost him more money and trouble? Only reason I can think of is some kind of vendetta against Osborn :L

Also read the preview of the next issue, to me Ock feels kinda not written right. He calls spiderman a 'monkey brain' & 'canary's prey' :ikyn:

Apart from those two rather humorous names he calls Spidey, his characterization was spot on. Waid nailed his egotistical ranting to a tee.

I'll wet myself if we see a Doc Ock vs The Lizard battle.

That's because he's being mind controlled by the Lizard-pheromones or whatever, it made tons of New Yorkers go crazy in the Shed arc.

Lizard vs. Ock would be epic!
Looks like we may get it!

In the previous issues yes Ock's personality was perfect, but the preview felt wierd to me for the latest one.

I'm praying for Ock vs Lizard though

Yes haha, I remember they changed the name.

I liked the '90s TAS also, but I agree with you. Season 4 & 5 sucked. So did Season 3 at some points imo.

:wow:
Has that really never been done before? That would be awesome, truly.

Nope never.

In fact I can't think of any really good Spidey villain fights with each other.

Superheroes as elderly (Spidey edition):

Well, at least Ock is not wearing a big diaper in his old age :awesome:
