World Doc Ock's lair

I'm surprised you have Group Therapy on the bottom. It was fab seeing Ock lead the Six properly at last. Not like how they did it in the 90's cartoon, with Kingpin forming the Insidious Six. Bleh!

Yeah, the Insidious Six was a disappointment.

Group Therapy was far, far better than Attack of the Insidious Six. However, the latter kind of scared me off of cartoon adaptations of an S6 storyline. I read somewhere that they changed it in TASTV because the execs thought that the word "Sinister" would scare the kiddies :whatever:

Anyway, speaking of the Sinister Six...

:D

Obviously I like a particular villain better, like you. However, I cannot deny Doc Ock's awesomeness.

The fact that you recognize his greatness shows you are a man of impeccable taste

Indeed. Spidey wasn't even allowed punch anyone in that cartoon. So silly.

Oh my god, that is sooooooo awesome. Awww, they look so cute :woot:

I love it, MP. Well done!

And they didn't even allow Gwen Stacy in because they didn't want to bring in a character they'd only have to kill off :whatever:

Thanks! :word:

Lol, awesome!

Wow, a whole (and very lively) thread dedicated to my favorite comic book character. I think I'm going to like it here...

That...has got to be the cutest Sinister Six picture in existence (Ock's Spider-Dunce doodle made me laugh)! I must say, you have wonderful taste. :yay:

I did a Six (err four) doodle not too long ago but it isn't nearly as adorable as yours and they were together to accomplish something just a bit more specific.

Revenge for this incident actually...

It was worth it...

And here's another, just because...

Welcome to the lair, M.S. Feather. Always great to have another Doc Ock fan amongst us :yay:

LOL! I love your drawings. They're fantastic. Especially the one of Doc Ock pantsing Spidey, with the other villains laughing their asses off :funny:

I always took Ock ripping Spidey's tooth out in the Hollywood arc as sweet revenge for that pants thing. There was tears and everything. Oooooh yeah :otto:

So tell us a bit about yourself. How long have you been a fan? You have a fav comic book story featuring Ock? Have you been watching the fantastic Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon, which has been doing brilliant things with Ock?

Aw, well thanks Mistah J. I really appreciate that. ^^

That incident on the plane was...yeah, those were not good times for Peter. :oldrazz:

He did publicly humiliate Otto though...in one of the most demeaning and childish ways possible too I might add. There are just some things you don't do to sociopaths, certain lines you don't cross and Brian Mi- uh, Spidey went way past that line.

Hence the pantsing in front of his greatest foes. Yeah, try and live that one down Superman. :hehe:

Hmm...I'm a kid in a twenty-two year old woman's body; my biggest passions in life are video games and comics; my childhood heroes were Batman and The Flash; my favorite Spidey characters are Doctor Octopus, Electro, Mysterio and the S-Man himself.

My favorite Octopus stories would have to be Return of the Sinister Six, his battle with Owl/attempted murder of Black Cat, the Master Planner arc, Year One and Spider-Man: Reign because a dead Ock tormenting old-man Parker is infinitely hilarious to me...

Yeah, I have been following Spectacular Spider-Man. I'm not a big fan of Galloway's art but the writing is phenomenal and I really, really hope it doesn't get cancelled.

Ahh, Nuclear Reactor Island...sounds like a killer vacationing spot.

My goodness another talented artistic Doc Ock fangirl joins our lair. The Ockster is a magnet for these types of fans. Your fellow fangirls OctoHaz and The Master Planner also have a flare for art, and have honoured our lair many times with their artwork.

You're really going to fit in really well here :otto:

Your choice of favourite Doc Ock stories all get my seal of approval. Greatness all of them. Have you read all of Ock's comic book arcs, or is there some still on your to get list?

Oh and another question, what did you think of Alfred Molina as Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2?

Very nice. Its always nice to see the gang all together. And Kraven as he should be.

I hope so. :yay:

I've tried very hard to get my hands on most of the older stories but I must confess I haven't been reading many of his more recent appearances. I saw issue #2 of Out of Reach last time I was at the comic shop but passed on it. Since his re-imagining or whatever that was happened I've been sort of paranoid about reading another story where he's mishandled. I think the last issue I read with Ock was Spider-Man's big unmasking on television, which Ock saw and in a fit of rage proceeded to rampage through the city like a brain-dead loony, only to get distracted by some kid and get his block knocked off by Peter.

What the heck? While I'm positive Otto would have been absolutely furious by the news, wouldn't it have been more in character for him to stew silently and come up with some scheme to use this very dangerous knowledge against Peter...not blasting out the door Bruce Banner style without a second thought? Maybe it's just me.

As for stories on my want list, I never read the arc when he came back from the dead so I need to track down those ASM issues ASAP. I also read somewhere that he went up against Captain America at some point. If that's true, it would definitely be on the top of my list.

Oh and another question, what did you think of Alfred Molina as Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2?

I'm very picky when it comes to movies but I really enjoyed Spider-Man 2 (despite the terrible ending and tentacle mind control) and Mr. Molina was at the top of his game in that role. I've seen it a billion times but I still pop it in every once and a while...even if it's just to watch the Ock parts. :woot:

What about you?

And sorry, I know it's off topic but I have to say I love the quote in your sig. The Killing Joke is (in my opinion) the greatest comic ever written so...yeah. I dig it.

Steer clear of Out of Reach. It's rubbish. The concept was good, but the execution of it was terrible. That story was a product of the influx of Doc Ock minis being released when Spider-Man 2 was due for release.

Speaking of Spider-Man 2, I adore it. It's my favourite of the three Spidey movies, and my second favourite comic book movie after The Dark Knight. I loved every nano second of Molina's Doc Ock. Even the part at the end when he had an epiphany. Yes, it was a deviation from the comics, but he was still such an outstanding villain, and his demise was a powerful one as he went down with his life's work.
Molina's Doc Ock was a visual delight. Molina himself played the part superbly. He played it with a low key menace, and never went really over the top with it. As is always a danger when playing a mad scientist.

Cheers for the comment about my sig. As you no doubt guessed I'm a huge fan of the Joker, too. He's my other all time favourite comic book villain. And the Killing Joke rocks.

By the way, we ranked our favourite Doc Ock episodes in the SSM cartoon there on the previous page. I'd love to see how you rank them :yay:

Yeah, the Insidious Six was a disappointment.
Aw...I liked.
It was the first episodes of TAS that I had. I bought a VHS at the time.
But no...no way it tops Group Therapy.

Seconded. Terrible art, terrible writing, terrible story. Just terrible. Like, more terrible than stealing 40 cakes (and believe me, that's pretty terrible).

Feather, welcome. :)

It was easily more powerful than Norman and Eddie's respected film finales, I'll give you that. Also, while I disagreed with a few things I still believe Mr. Molina's portrayal of the Doctor to be the greatest (ever set into motion that is)...though Spectacular Ock is rising in the ranks pretty fast.

I agree with most of you about Shear Strength, it actually managed to successfully capture Ock how I imagine him to be. I also have to give props to Peter MacNicol for his work in that episode, probably the best voice acting I've heard in the series to date.
Before Ock leaves Peter to die in the rubble he turns and bids Spider-Man farewell. How he delivered it, that line had so much finality to it that I almost believed him... Just icing to top an already top notch story.

As for the others, I'd say Group Therapy would be a close second followed by Reactions and Gangland.

That's gold! :funny:

Though according to this he may have actually needed them.

And thanks for the welcome. :yay:

So interesting thing about issue 600.

At another board I visit a poster asked who the artist/ writer team would be and I answered that it was JRJR/ Dan Slott.

The following poster quoted me and told me I was thinking too small. That posters name?

STEVE WACKER!

And yes it is really him.

What does this mean for Doc Ocks return? Maybe a different writing and artist team? Maybe more than one story? Who knows?

Hello Octophiles!

I'm in need of some very cool/awesome/plain ol' Badass shots (from the comic books) of our dear Doctor Octopus!

I thought...well, what better place to ask than the Octopus' Lair?

Any help would be much obliged!
