World Doc Ock's lair

He was wearing the white armani suit, and I was instantly fascinated by him. He was like a giant spider himself walking on those tentacles. Then I started reading the comics, and it just took off from there.

Its funny, isnt it? How we become fascinated by certain characters right away. I was introduced to the Hobgoblin by a friend's card collection. The costume, the name, the glider, the weapons. I was fascinated with the Goblins from then on.

On a side note and in no way is this meant as a criticism, but how did Ock manage to hold up the Hulk in the previous scans with his own two legs? Hulk must weigh a considerable amount and I doubt Otto could handle the weight without two of the tentacles buttressing the strain.

I think the actual question is, not how it happened, but how can we make it more awesome. I don't think we can.

The adamantium arms were far more powerful than Ocks' orignal tentacles. This was something Peter David missed when he criticized Revenge of the Sinister Six. Otto specifically states (after kicking the Hulk's ass) that the power supply of his adamantium arms has been "souped up".

Time for me to post something that allows me to look like I'm doing something useful here:

Lol, awesome! :woot:

Nah, the real question is why does one character but not another appeal to a person? Why did the Hobgoblin jump out at me but not the Lizard? (I like Lizzy, but not like Hobby.)

Sure, the tentacles were amped up but not his flesh and blood legs. Two human legs cant lift something as heavy as the Hulk.

Could be the way you were raised and maybe you were born with it.

Reminds me of an awesome movie, directed by the same guy who did The Crow, I'm talking of Dark City, but you've probably already seen it. If not, I highly recommend it.

To Symbiotic, Doom & Master Planner:

Glad you liked it...I'd have to disagree about your respected talents though. You both do spectacular work and I enjoy it a lot. :)

Maybe we could all do an Ock themed art trade or collaborative piece together sometime? I find it a lot more fun to team up with other artists than to work on my own, so I'd be down with that if you guys ever felt up to it.

Hahaha! Nice "Lazer" reference there. :hehe:

Wow, you guys have been busy in my absence. Where to start?

First of all, M.S. Feather, love your artwork. Brilliant. I take it that pic was inspiried by SSM's cartoon Doc Ock?

Master Planner, ditto on your fab pic. There's something so cool about Spidey being surrounded by tentacles :hehe:
As for your wish list for ASM #600, as great as it would be to see Ock back in the armani suit, I don't think it's going to happen. In a previous interview they said he's going to have a new look. And a new look implies a look we have not seen before. So that rules out the armani suit unfortunately. As for the adamantium tentacles, it's very possible if they're elevating him to Dr Doom threat status. I am drooling in anticipation to see what evil they're going to have him doing.

brianbuck, you mentioned you'd like to see Ock focus on something else other than world conquest. What would you like him to be up to in #600? After all, it doesn't necessarily have to be the world he's focusing on in that particular story. New York, or even the whole U.S. might be in trouble. Also we must remember that Ock is a scientist at heart. I think that whatever he does should have some kind of scientific basis to it.

In fact, that's a good question to throw out there: What would you guys like to see Ock doing in ASM #600?

Demogoblin, yeah you're right, some characters just instantly clock with you the first time you see them. I mean I've seen many characters that can fly, or have super strength, or are monsters etc. But I'll be damned if I've seen any villains that are evil scientists with four super strong metallic tentacles fused to their body that they can cntrol with their mind.

Hell, I'm certainly open to the idea, it could only improve my humble work... Do you have an account on www.deviantart.com, may I ask?

I have another one in the same vein:

Yeah, I understand that it's highly unlikely a white suit will be forthcoming :waa: But a fangirl can dream! I just hope they're finally going to quit with the lime green and orange spandex. Otto is a classy archvillain.

Agreed 100% with your reply to Demogoblin, that's all I'll say :otto: There is only one Otto Octavius.

I'd like to see Ock put his tech knowledge to better use. This is a guy who, like the Professor from Gilligans' Island, can take two cocoanut shells and some duct tape and assemble a nuclear reactor. Imagine Ock building a 1 megaton nuke and offering it to the highest bidder. And what happened to all that alien tech the Six stole from that other dimension? I figure Otto's smart enough to have stashed some of it in a hidden location. Besides, conquering the world in the Marvel Universe means having to deal with all of its heroes, and Ock is smart enough to realize it isn't worth the trouble. But Ock as a high tech weapons dealer?, that has loads of possiblities. And it would definately make him a Doctor Doom level threat.

That is a great idea, and absolutely right on. For my part, I don't have any specific ideas for evil plans in mind at this moment, but I will say I'd rather see him as a classy, cold-blooded sociopath than just crazy like he was in the "My Science Teacher is Spider-Man" storyline. :otto:

As for the Professor of Gilligan's Island...he was smart enough to build a radio out of two coconut shells, but he evidently wasn't smart enough to fix the hole in the boat!

Thank you very much.

Yeah, it was just a picture of Spectacular Ock done in my own style.

Hmm...

I personally wouldn't have a problem with a quest for world domination...

Whatever he does, I think it'd be cool if it were on a large enough scale and rather urgent enough for a few other heroes to have to come in and put a stop to it. It would make for a great climactic battle to see Ock fighting off multiple heroes while he desperately tried to launch his big attack.

I love the weapons dealer idea, Brian. Honestly, it'd be nice to see him using any kind of tech or science based scheme again, as I feel he's been a lot more octopus than doctor as of late.

As for having to deal with all the heroes...

In the Mysterio Manifesto, Mad Jack successfully managed to create a substance that could effectively render ones super powers useless. If Ock could find a way to create something similar to or replicate and perfect that substance to use on a global scale, I'd say that'd be pretty huge. With most of the heroes (and rival villains) out of the way, the world would be at his mercy.

Hell, I'm certainly open to the idea, it could only improve my humble work...

Famous last words, indeed! :funny:

That's great! If Symbiotic, Brian, Haz or anyone else is interested, let me know.

I'd also like to see Ock get Angelina out of her coma. Then he could steal tech from Power Broker Inc and give her real super strength and invulnerablility. With the new revived and real (no VR simulation) Stunner at his side, Ock sets out to reform the Sinister Six, with Electro, Shocker, Vulture and Mysterio rounding out the group.

Loving all the suggestions for ASM #600, guys. They said they're making it like the thickest comic book EVER! With all new material. No reprinted stuff. Imagine if it was over 100 pages. And to think it's going to be a Doc Ock story where he's a Dr Doom threat level.

*Geek gasm*

:otto:

I'm sure you'll all enjoy this. :cwink:

I could watch that battle sequence forever. Best fight of the series, bar none. The opera music really adds to it.

Great pic, Chris. Even though Ock is going down, it's ok because Spidey is looking a little the worse for wear. So we know he gave Spidey a pummeling :hehe:
