I've been trying to think of actors that would be legit surprises that no one saw coming. For some reason Jay Baruchel popped into my mind. He's goofy and could add a quirky twist to the character.

Wow you guys are alittle wound up in here huh.
I know I'm probably the only one in the minority, but I could actually see Jay Baruchel as Strange for some reason. Given the right script and all, he could pull it off. I mean come on, no one in their mind ever thought of Chris Pratt as Star Lord and look how that turned out. Got to have an open mind, people.
I don't know **** about Doctor Strange but the idea of Jay Baruchel playing him sounds terrible beyond words and instantly makes the movie a never see to me. He's fine in his silly comedies but that's about it.
It is not similar casting to Pratt or RDJ for an obvious reason that I don't want to mention because I don't want to sound mean.

About "unexpected casting"? Both guys were. What would you be mean about?
Why is Leto not getting the "it'll be another Norton situation!" that Phoenix got from certain people?
Dude has a full time band, does maybe one film a year for the past decade and is very particular about roles, (never done a blockbuster). There's no way I see him signing a 6-9 picture deal.

I've seen some recent pics of Colin Farrell that remind me of Strange.

I'm starting to come around to the Gyllenhaal bandwagon. I think I've heard his name bandied around for different superhero roles for so long that they idea of him as a superhero is already boring to me, but he's clearly stretching himself dramatically right now, and Strange is sort of an atypical role that might draw out a different, really compelling kind of performance.
I keep seeing people suggest British, Shakespearean-types with a lot of theatrical gravitas, and I understand that that seems to fit the superficial Doctor Strange profile, but I think it is very important that this guy be an American, and not someone who immediately seems like a "Sorcerer Supreme". He obviously has to be able to get to having that kind of gravitas, but there needs to be a certain, uniquely American down-to-earth quality, and a little bit of a serial ****-up quality.
