Doctor Who - Not a Hugging Type of Thread - Part 19

ANYway, it looks like the War Doctor's first audio box set is out. I'm not buying it, though. My back-and-forth opinions on the War Doctor aside, I just don't have the money. I got 7th Doctor novel adaptations and 2nd Doctor Early Adventures to save up for.

Which ones are you planning to buy?

And I shall probably be putting that box set on a future Christmas list and hoping or treating myself to them one month when I can afford them as I think it sounds quite exciting

I have all of the previous 7th & 4th Doctor novel adaptations (Love and War, Romance of Crime, English Way of Death, A Well-Mannered War, The Highest Science, and Damaged Goods). I just need the two that were released recently: Theatre of War and All-Consuming Fire.

The latest season of Early Adventures audios are all 2nd Doctor stories. I've listened to the 1st Doctor season, and I really like the half-narrated, full cast format with a dead-on Doctor impression. Jamie's actor, Frazer Hines, is voicing both Jamie and the 2nd Doctor in each episode, and his impression of Patrick Troughton is always amazing.

While I'm on the topic of audios, I finally got around to listening to the last 7th Doctor/Ace/Benny box set (which is really just another season of Benny's audios with the Doctor Who logo slapped on so they can use the Doctor). Much better than their first box set. I'm a little disappointed with how little Ace was used, though.

This Christmas special looks like it'll be a lot of fun

And after a finale where a companion died, the Doctor was tortured for billions of years and turned his back on everything he tried to be before choosing to erase all emotional connection to one of his best friends for both their sakes it feels like we could do with a little comic relief and a more lighthearted story as a breather episode

The Christmas Special is great - and Alex Kingston is The Doctor's best partner ever!

Pretty good episode; River and 12 have slightly better chemistry than she did with 11, IMO.

Also, I created a new Whovian this weekend. This Christmas, I was leaving a Dr. Who marathon on mute on my TV while I was working on dinner, and my sister started watching it and asked me to background her on what was going on. She went on to watch another 6 hours straight. I recommended she start with Eccelston's season and work her way back forward.

I really wish River could be his companion for 1 straight season. Of course that would/will never happen. Or a River mini-series/web series would be great.

There are a decent number of fans who would revolt at the idea of more River Song. I'm not one of them though.

12 and River for a whole series? No way, too much raw sexuality for a children's show. :ninja:

Oh please. I grew up on Bananas in Pajamas. These kids today can handle 12/River. :o

....... there was a TV show?

After this episode, I don't think you can do more River. Just based on the simple facts that

A) River didn't recognize the Doctor with his current face, and still believed it to be just the 13 we knew of before.

B) They spent their last night together in this episode. We actually saw it (unlike in the 11th Doctor minisode), so there's no way around it.

I think River is done for. The only way she could come back now is in a multi-doctor story where she likely wouldn't remember it anyway. But we probably won't get one of those for a LOOOOOOONG time.

If ever again. At least, under Moffat.

Idk, I feel like they made a point to point out that she was 200 years old and it took 40 years for 1 night on Whispering Towers or whatever. And since she is dead/not dead in the library, they could find a way to bring her back somehow if they really wanted.

I believe that Ralph Fiennes never guessed that Alex would remain so stunning for so long or he wouldn't have dumped her so many years ago!

I really adored the Christmas special

It was silly but in a great and fun way, a light hearted and very funny story with some brilliant bits of ridiculous comedy and a nice happy ending :)

And I thought that Twelve and River were great together here!

One last night... that lasts for 26 years.

I like River much more with Capaldi than I did with Smith. I really loved the scene where she realized who he was.

she was more flirty with Smith, but she behaved with Capaldi as if they really WERE happily married to one another... those scenes with them together at the end of the episode really worked for me in making me think that this WAS a marriage between them and not a game, that River seemed to be putting across when she was with Matt...

Even with a vast knowledge of how to travel through time and space, Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat says he's "actively engaged" in the hunt for the right person to take over his role after he leaves, he told Radio Times.

While his departure isn't imminent, he's beginning to think about his exit from the British sci-fi series -- a veritable institution in the U.K. Head writer and executive producer since 2010, Moffat is giving serious thought to who'd succeed him. It's not an easy decision, he said.

"Everything is difficult in Doctor Who, including leaving," he said in the interview. "I would never leave it in the lurch because it means too much to me. Yes, it's a problem. Let's not pretend it's not a big problem. But there will be a solution."

Even though I never hated him as much as majority of the fandom, I am ready for a new show runner.
