Doctor Who - Not a Hugging Type of Thread - Part 19

We don't actually know if this is the Master's first female incarnation. We've really only seen three incarnations from his first cycle of regenerations: The little boy, Delgado, and Pratt/Beevers. That's a huge gap of unknown regenerations. God only knows if the Master birthed that daughter or fathered her.

Either way, now I want to see the Master's daughter.

For that matter, I want to see the Doctor's children. I mean, is the Doctor Susan's maternal or paternal grandfather?

I did say "most likely". :)

I haven't caught up with all of the old Doctor Who yet so I did not know how many of his regenerations we had seen or knew of although in the new Who it felt implied he was dead and done for, never to be seen again before he reappeared.

The 3rd Doctor went up against Roger Delgado's Master. Then the 4th Doctor had to deal with a decayed/dying Master who was out of regenerations and was stuck looking like Swamp Thing.

Then the Master stole the body of the father of the Doctor's companion Nyssa, and he spent the rest of the classic series walking around in a dead man's body.

If you go by the TV series alone, the last time we saw the Master before "Utopia" was during the TV movie, where he stole the body of a firefighter played by Eric Roberts. The Doctor threw him into the Eye of Harmony inside the TARDIS (that sun inside the ship from "Journey to the Center of the TARDIS"), and that was that. Then John Simm's Master gave a throwaway line about the Time Lords resurrecting him for the war.

If you include the audio plays, then the Master escaped the Eye of Harmony on his own and decayed back into his Swamp Thing body. The Time Lords eventually tracked him down and gave him a new cycle of regenerations for an unknown upcoming conflict involving the Daleks.

Anyway, cheating death is what he/she does.

Doctor Who Official ‏@bbcdoctorwho 1h1 hour ago

Time frame for MASSIVE #DoctorWho news: hours, not days.

And it’s much bigger news than some people are guessing…

Moffat leaving ?
Capaldi leaving ?
New companion ?
Specials ?
Missing episodes found.

Capaldi is already rumored to be leaving by the end of either this season or the next but that is nothing new. New companion(s) are a given with Jenna Coleman leaving the end of this season. Moffat is also a perennial "leaving" rumor and I doubt they will be adding a new special so it probably is more missing episodes.

Sadly I would have preferred more Sarah Jane Adventures before her passing and since that can't happen, a not depressing Jack Harkness spin off.

A non depressing Jack Harkness spinoff?

What's the point of a Jack Harkness spinoff if it doesn't make you want to kill yourself after watching it?

/sarcasm

Kind of creepy this week. I liked it. I want to see the rest of his notecards.

I'm liking this season more than last season.

I was on the verge of dropping the show but tuned in to see how this season would go and am enjoying it immensely.

Capaldi feels like he has come into his own with the role.

Toby Whitehouse delivers another solid episode.

I loved the social response cards bit.

Production values on the episode were good as well.

I keep forgetting that this is going to be a season of mostly 2-parters. I was stunned when the episode ended on a cliffhanger.

I have to keep reminding myself this as well. It feels so weird.

I was dying when he got out the cards. Especially how Clara was behind him trying to tell him to get them out without anyone hearing.

It is? I've gone in blind, but I like that these stories are getting more time to breathe.

The list of episodes is:

-The Magician's Apprentice / The Witch's Familiar
-Under the Lake / Before the Flood
-The Girl Who Died / The Woman Who Lived (these might be separate stories with similar naming or a 2-parter)
-The Zygon Invasion / The Zygon Inversion
-Sleep No More
-Face the Raven
-Heaven Sent / Hell Bent

Maisie Williams is apparently in both parts, so my money is on it being a 2-parter.

I don't know why, but I haven't been that interested in Doctor Who lately. I'm not as invested in it. Anyone else feeling the same?

Same for me and my brother. I think the series has become complacent under Moffat. It's like any procedural or comedy after a few years. You know what to expect.

Moffat and Smith came in at the right point to keep things going but Moffat should have left with Smith.

I agree. I think the show needs new blood from a show running perspective.

I loved the majority of last season and think the new season has started brilliantly. I feel like Capaldi have reinvigorated Moffat. Heck, Moffat even makes great Christmas Specials, outside of one of course. I am going to hate it when Moffat leaves.

I won't.

I loved Moffat when he was a guest writer, with episodes like Blink and The Girl in the Fireplace. I was also right on board during his tenure with Matt Smith. I think he's better than RTD, but his tropes are very familiar now. And while I think Capaldi is good, I liked Tennant and Smith a lot more. I guess the passion just isn't the same for me at the moment. But episodes like Listen, Flatline and Mummy on the Orient Express still manage to rekindle the fire. Those are up there with the very best.
