Oh, and speaking of killer scenes, there's one near the end of the second instalment in this two-part story, The Zygon Inversion – which I can't say much about now – that is up there with the greats. Over and over I have played it, marvelling every time at how raw and bold it is. Without a shadow of a doubt, it is Peter Capaldi's greatest performance as the Doctor so far. His Doctor Moment, if you will - the one he so very much needed. (For obvious reasons, there's no point talking about other cast members at this stage.)

They retreat to the fictional country of 'Turmezistan', they advance their abilities in a training camp, they kidnap a character and make her read out a statement on video. Save for a soliloquy on water-boarding, or a cameo from Tony Blair, they couldn't possibly make it clearer: this is Doctor Who's take on immigration, Islamophobia and – blimey – ISIS. How surreal is that? To hear the word 'radicalization' in Doctor Who? To hear an innocent Zygon plead that, “I just wanted to live here. Why can't I just live?” To hear the Doctor assert again and again that the extremists don't speak for the majority.

Doctor Who has always had some kind of a social gospel to it, definitely not as blatant as Star Trek, but very anti-establishment in its own respect.

Wow. Great second part.

Maisie's performance was really good. I believed how jaded she become even if the verbal sparring got a bit repetitive.
The memoirs of her life gave a nice feel to how she turned into the person we see in part two. I thought it was well done.

That creeper shot in the photo at the end has me wondering what direction she'll go.

wow, a VERY good and tense episode with the Zygon invasion... you could just feel the tenseness and the suspense of the situation... and that very last scene with 'Clara'... holy s**t...

and glad to see the return of Osgood...

can't wait for the second part...

Not exactly a subtle episode. Really liked it. Looking forward to seeing villainous Clara. The little bit we say was great.

I'm going to binge watch all the S9 episodes soon. I haven't seen anything after the first episode. Just haven't been motivated.

I really did not enjoy season 8. Is season 9 worth watching?

This show just hasn't been the same for me since Tennant left. It had great moments with Matt Smith, but so far season 8 was probably my least favourite and Capaldi my least favourite Doctor.

I'm wary of starting season 9 with much expectation. Has it gotten better, or is it pretty much the same as season 8?

EDIT: OK, least favourite is a little bit harsh, it was better than season 7 and 2 but considering my hype for Capaldi, and hoping Moffat would take it in a more interesting and refreshing direction with a new doctor, it ended up being a big disappointment. I'll probably binge once the new series is done and do so with lowered expectations.

I know what you mean. Tennant-era was my fav and season 8 was unbearable for me. Personally, I find season 9 much better than 8. The focus isn't on Clara's love life anymore. It's not as good as RTD era. But it's on par with early Moffat-era I think. Hope you like it. :) :D

I always wonder what people found so enjoyable about the Tennant era. The show was just so poorly written most of the time. Moffat's episodes were the best thing about the first 4 series. Always loved Tennant in the role though I didn't like his Doctor, if that makes sense. For all of Moffat's problems, the show has been of a consistently higher quality since he has taken over, and Capaldi is becoming my favorite Doctor, with Clara my favorite companion.

RTD's era is generally superior to Moffat's. People can say what they want about RTD, but he never had a season as dull as 7 or as middling as the first half of series 9. Moffat just hasn't lived up to Series 5, as far as I'm concerned.

So, Maisie's coming back for Clara's last episode. I knew they were setting up her return with the ending. [BLACKOUT]This won't end well for Clara, will it?[/BLACKOUT]:csad:

Either she returns as a villain and kills Clara or she becomes the new companion.

Capaldi will be back for season 10 and probably longer.

I understand you are now working on series 10. Can you give us any updates in terms of casting?

We all know that Jenna Coleman is leaving this year.

How about Peter Capaldi?

Peter Capaldi is going nowhere.

I believe we've heard something similar before about River Song. We all know how that one turned out.

I don't want her to become the new companion. She's good in her little arch, but I don't think I can like her as more. I wish the new companion was male or an alien, or brought something new to the table. Maisie is really good, but predictable.

Capaldi will be back for season 10 and probably longer.

I'm glad to hear that. I like Capaldi. :woot:

And I completely disagree. I find the vast majority of RTD's era dull (I don't find bad story and ridiculous cheese for ridiculous cheese sake enjoyable), and while I had a lot of problems with the second half of series 7, Series 9 has been fantastic so far. Better then every season of the RTD era. RTD's best series was the first, and it went downhill from there.

If I ranked the series it would be like this:

Series 5
Series 9 (So far)
Series 6
Series 8
Series 7
Series 1
Series 3
Series 2
Series 4 (Donna is great, the rest outside of River and Midnight is horrid)

Right about what? Despite the usual tone of your posts, I figured you'd be sensible enough to comprehend that this discussion is subjective. Clearly, I was mistaken.

I understand everyone has their taste. You were the one that felt the need to get rude.

You'd already made your Moffat preference clear, before I even posted. So yeah, its no surprise that you'd disagree with me thinking RTD's era is better than Moffat's.

And he was discussing why disagreed.

...By, IMO, essentially repeating himself.I got the gist of it the first time, and pretty much disagreed with it then. It is what it is. But, if it'll save the thread from getting derailed, I'll address his disagreement:

I disagree with this disagreement. The idea that Series 9 is better than any RTD season is strange to me, as this has been one of the blandest seasons in recent memory. Not a single standout story until last week's. A Peter Capaldi that has been neutered since last season. A Clara Oswald who has overstayed her welcome. A Tardis team that feels more like a generic Doctor/Companion duo than something unique.

What you said about RTD is the exact same thing I'll say about Moffat: His first Series was his best, and he's been downhill ever since. The difference between RTD and Moffat is that RTD knew when to quit.

I feel like this would be how Hollywood does doctor who

I immediately thought "Eddie Redmayne as the 13th doctor?"

When I saw "The theory of everything" I was thinking Matt Smith could have done the role too.
