^ I disagree. The ending was great. This ep was the most likable Clara had been in a long time, IMO.

The way it ended did rob Clara's exit of some punch.

The Doctor being pulled away and just leaving the body on the trap street plus Rigsy left behind with a group of people who had been calling him a murderer a few moments ago.

Felt too much like part 1 of a story instead of the finale of a character.

She needs to still be out there.

I have some issues with Clara's (much needed IMO) exit.

1. I agree with the sentiment that it felt too much like part 1 to the story, when her departure should've felt more grand. Especially in the comparison to the Series 8 finale. Which, leads me to my next point....

2. Death In Heaven and the Christmas special were better departure stories (really two parts, in a way) for Clara. I appreciate what they did by showing what happens when a companion tries to be the Doctor (this is something that should've been Prime Clara's arc during the entirety of her tenure), but it didn't last long enough to make a real impact, and they only went full tilt with it in this episode.

3. They killed her off just as Clara FINALLY got an interesting arc... Which is her trying to he like the Doctor, and acting recklessly because of it. And in a way, acting alot like Oswin, the first Clara we ever met, and Victorian Clara, the second.


Besides that, I was pleased with this episode. And I'm happy that Clara is finally gone. She had a good run, and they made sure she'll remain a huge part of Who history.

Overall, I'm very indifferent to Clara as a companion. Oswin and the Victorian Clara were more interesting than the main Clara was during her entire time in the TARDIS, and its a little frustrating that it wasn't until the final series that they found a way to incorporate some of the elements that made those Clara's so enjoyable, and stand out among the long list of Doctor Who companions.

Clara is far from the worst companion but she's also considerably far from the best, despite their attempts to make her such. However, without giving her a standout personality to back it up.

loved Clara since Asylum of the Daleks, and yes i did hear about Jenna leaving and scoring her new gig for next year, but it still didnt the soften the blow of her demise when the ep was done. it stung.

its a brilliantly written ep no doubt about it. perfect in that its a great morality piece about many life lessons and virtue. not only is it a great send off for Clara, but also maintains the great writing from the Zygon Inversion.

i will miss the Impossible Girl as badly as i already miss Raggedy Man.

I do hope they keep her dead. Her actions this season has pretty much been leading up to this happening. That said, I doubt this is the final resolution of her story. Still, Diggsy's memorial was pretty tear jerking.

And angry Capaldi is great. Really looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season and the Christmas special plays out.

I'll admit that I wasn't particularly engaged with this episode for the vast majority of it. Heck, I spent the first 20 minutes trying to figure out who Rigsy was and why he would have the Doctor's telephone number for emergencies.

So, a LOT of the last 15 minutes went over my head. The two-headed mother was in a medical stasis. To free the mother, someone needed to use a key to open a panel on the statis controls. Somehow, the lock was supposedly identical to the lock on the TARDIS even though Me hasn't even ridden in the TARDIS from memory.

Also, the Doctor had a key to the TARDIS even though he now opens the doors by clicking his fingers (or was that done away with in a previous episode, much like the Sonic Screwdriver). Clara has a key, but for some reason she didn't unlock the panel even though everyone (or was it only the Doctor and Rigsy) knew that it was some kind of "trap" set by Me.

All of that seems awfully convenient. I guess that Me's mysterious accomplice could have designed the trap with knowledge of the TARDIS, but it all seemed a bit bizarre and they rushed through it as though they knew it made little sense.

And then we get to Clara's tattoo. So, even though Me has complete control over the tattoo when it comes to Random Old Man Thief and Rigsy, once it is transferred to Clara she no longer has any control? I can kind of accept that, except the fact that the Doctor is defeated and Clara is killed because of "contract law" is odd in the extreme.

Even if Me couldn't re-absorb the tattoo, I completely missed why Clara couldn't pass the tattoo to Me (especially since Me promised to protect Clara and Me is immortal) or why the Doctor simply didn't insist on Clara passing the tattoo to him since at worst it would cause the Doctor to regenerate. Surely the Doctor would be willing to regenerate to save Clara's life? Was Clara somehow prevented from passing the tattoo to Me or the Doctor? Was it once again due to contract law?

Anyway, it's not that I mind Clara being killed. A "happily ever after" ending for every companion is a little unrealistic. And I'm not even fond of Clara as a companion, other than her appearances as Dalek Clara and Victorian Clara. But, I still think as such a long-standing companion, Clara deserved a better send off than some nonsense about a killer tattoo. I would have been happy to see Clara die sacrificing her life for others. Or even due to her own arrogance after she bluffs her way into a dangerous situation pretending to be the Doctor and completely fails.

But, I really didn't understand the purpose of this oddly nonsensical death. Especially for a bit character like Rigsy who they tried to make appealing with a newborn baby, but who wasn't all that engaging on screen.

Anyway, I expect that Clara's story will be revisited at some point. After all, there are millions of different Claras still scattered throughout the Doctor's lifetime isn't there? Or was that undone at some point?

But that is essentially exactly what happened. I found this sendoff to be a satisfying end to Clara, who was never as good as Amy but never as obnoxious as Donna or as forgettable as Martha. Her biggest sin is that, at times, the writers tried way too hard to make her important (Impossible Girl, altering all of the Doctor's history even giving him the TARDIS; inspiring the Doctor as a child to be the Doctor; saving Gallifrey) but not her accomplishments felt earned, if that makes sense. The writers tried too hard and as a result she often came off as the Mary Sue. If they just let her be a normal woman who slowly tried to "become" the Doctor (as was her final arc), she would've been a far more satisfying and interesting companion. Instead, the writer's insistence (for lack of better wording) on her resulted in her inadvertently and undeservingly becoming more important than the Doctor in the lore. I think that is why so many people take issue with her.

At any rate, [blackout]this isn't farewell entirely as Coleman is confirmed to be in the finale, so I am sure we will see her again soon and get final closure.[/blackout]

I thought the episode was really great, even if Clara's death felt a bit abrupt, but I guess that was the idea.

The Doctor warned her multiple times about putting herself into needless danger, and this isn't the first time she tried to act like the Doctor with him bailing her out and finding a way. This time it didn't work, and I'm really glad that it happened like that as opposed to her being saved and then something else happening. I thought they played into that as well, when they focus on the raven leaving her, and for a split second it looks like she lived, but then she collapses. Good stuff.

I like the differentiating aspects between the Doctor and Ashildr, which was explored during their last meeting when the Doctor saw her library of journals of her life. She effectively leaves her memories on the pages of a book, as opposed to how the Doctor keeps all of his memories with him and is a driving force behind a lot of his actions whether right or wrong.

Capaldi really nailed it again with the emotions and delivery of his lines, especially about the universe being small when he is angry at someone and claiming the Doctor's not here threatening her with UNIT or anyone to save Clara. I hope they keep the cards around and bring it out once in a while.

This trap to use the key to the TARDIS has be the Time Lords or Missy, right? I haven't read the synopsis of future episodes, so no spoilers from people that did, only theories.

It's Christmas Day on a remote human colony and the Doctor is hiding from Christmas Carols and Comedy Antlers. But when a crashed spaceship calls upon the Doctor for help, he finds himself recruited into River Song's squad and hurled into a fast and frantic chase across the galaxy. King Hydroflax (Greg Davies) is furious, and his giant Robot bodyguard is out-of-control and coming for them all! Will Nardole (Matt Lucas) survive? And when will River Song work out who the Doctor is?

All will be revealed on a starliner full of galactic super-villains and a destination the Doctor has been avoiding for a very long time.

I think he's had a really strong season this year, I can't think of any episodes that I haven't enjoyed or found something to really get excited about while watching them and I think this season got the dynamic between him and Clara just right too

I'm hopeful we'll get at least a couple more seasons with him in the role too

I gotta say, I'm impressed with how strong this season has been. There weren't any mindblowingly stupid episodes, like "Kill the Moon" or "In the Forest of the Night." Even Mark Gatiss wrote a good episode.
