You're a little late for that. I've already watched a good bulk of Pertwee's serials. The only Doctor I'm unfamiliar with is C. Baker.

Also, I thought Claws of Axos was probably one of the weaker serials during Pertwee's early run. It felt like a letdown after the previous 6 serials were all pure gold.

I haven't watched any Tennant episodes yet, but why all the hate? Is he really that bad or is Smith just so much better in comparison?

I have no hate for DT really, he was an alright Doctor. I just really don't think he wanted to go. I'm sure he was sitting by his phone everyday when Moffat took over just to get the call asking him back.

I am really happy he didn't get asked back coz Smith is Tennant only 10 times better.

I'm pretty sure he did want to go. It was his decision and no-one else's. He gave many a interview about how he felt it was his time to leave. Sure he was emotional after the final shot but so was Peter Davison when he left.
Don't take the characters words as representation of the David's feelings. That was purely RTD shamefully, albeit successfully (in my case anyway), tugging on the heartstrings of the audience. I'm all for high emotion but it was sort of a dirty thing to do as it made Moffat and Smith's work so much harder.

I think David Tennant gets too much of a bad rep these days. No he wasnt bad at all, in fact before Matt Smith he was a lot of peoples favorite Doctor. I just think he was let down by some bad and inconsistant wrtiting and thats down to RTD and the then producers. I think the thing that soils Tennants time as the Doctor was the ene of The End Of Time and the whole "I dont want to go" business.

I agree, Tennant definatly had decided it was time to go and it was all RTDs hack writing that i think soiled Tennants swansong.

Trial of a Time lord has its good points that are overwhelmed by the bad. But the Twin Dilemma or Timelash have no redeeming qualities whatsoever apart from Colin Baker's performance.

I would have liked a filler episode with just The Doctor and Rory. It's always been The Doctor and female companion.

Yea, that would have been cool.
Great they are just jumping right to it after the reveal though. So far this season is far better than any of the others imo. Quility is just, better.

Of course, but I am assessing how the character that appeared on screen seemed to develop. In the same way, the 7th Doctor became less clownish and more somber; and the 1st Doctor became less ambivalent towards others' safety.

Yeah its extraordinary how much he changes from his first series to his last. I was thinking back a few weeks a go, on what defines each doctor and I was fine for all of them but Ten whom I drew a blank on. His characterization is so over the place. But perhaps thats his character in itself. He's by far the most human out of all the doctors.

Storywise the departure of rose affected him deeply and probably sent him back on the path that the ninth doctor was going down pre Rose. And the death of the master and the departure of Donna really pushed him over the edge.

Though those are just excuses in the context of the story. In actual fact it was just plain lazy writing. Though Tennant acted all the inconsistencies and variations beautifully.

He did, the writing was really lazy, especially in the 2009 specials

I find it sad that RTD and Tennant felt the need to end their run on that note.

I've often thought about how they could have rewritten that special and the angle they should have gone for was that the Doctor honestly thought he was going to out and out die = no regeneration.

They could have played up some angle or had something occur wherein his ability to regenerate had been hampered. Maybe Rassilon blasting him with the Infinity Gauntlet or the radiation produced by that Gate thing the Master used - there was a lot of tech running around that could have been used to do it.

That way when the Doctor crawls into the TARDIS they can still have the somber tone as he finally sort of crumples up to die and then he realizes he's got just a spark of regeneration juice left in him and he has to struggle and fight to use that spark in order to force himself to regenerate into the Eleventh. It would have ended his Doctor on a better note and kept most of the drama throughout the episode.

Actually I remember him giving interviews at the time saying stuff like, "They haven't asked me to come back yet but when they do I have my answer ready

" That says to me they never asked him back but he wanted to go back.

I expected so much better from 10's regeneration. It looks like RTD had no intention of ever attempting to reach the levels of the 5th Doctor's regeneration.

"Oh, there'll be a heroic sacrifice alright. But instead of quiet dignity and a lack of certainly regarding his own survival, my Doctor will throw a hissy fit before making his sacrifice and cry at the camera just before regenerating!"

Tennant really with stronger characterization could have become a much better Doctor. He is absolutely fantastic in the Impossible Planet/Satan Pit and they should have modeled his Doctor's characteristics on that performance moving forward. He's got the starry eyed wonder, he's compassionate, he's a leader to the group and he takes action when its required of him. Really the tops for his Doctor as far as I'm concerned.

It was absolutely insane how he'd switch back and forth between condemning others for defending themselves and repeatedly committing genocide, showing no compassion for Harriet Jones and trying to save Davros/The Master.

HumanDoctor kills Daleks = He must be exiled for being a monster.

Doctor kills Time Lords = No biggy.

And they were all written by the SAME guy.

Quite possibly, either interpretation sounds reasonable, and Arthur would have to keep stum on which ever one he meant.

Of course, I know what interpretation I'd prefer.

If there was some sign of Tennant fighting his regeneration, like Davison, then it would have been better. But he's swanning around the place visiting EVERYONE, preferming complicated acts like getting money from Donna's dad, getting lottery numbers, putting the line on and probably other things... Nah, just not realistic even if he was fighting the regeneration that whole time.

As for the exploding TARDIS, why not? Go out with a bang... What would have been cool thought is have the Dr and the Master falling into some kind of pit BOTH regenerating. Thus you open your new series with utter insanity and no one knows whats going on and the mystery could go anywhere...

I suppose using it as an end of series cliff hanger with the same head writer would work better...
