Doctor Who - Regeneration 5 - Part 6

I kind of want the Doctor to have an american companion one day.

and Peri is the only Classic Who companion I hate. She was annoyingly nervous and whiny, had no redeeming character qualities, and her American accent was iffy at best. They had to show off Nicola Bryant's tatty-bojangles and keep her in high heels to distract from the train wreck of her character.

You know, I actually thought a point was being made until I read "tatty-bojangles". Nothing will ever be serious again...

I kinda stay away from that entire era, to be honest. I tried watching C. Baker's first episode, and I just couldnt finish it.

Damn you for making me remember Mr. Diagoras. Man that was a painful set of episodes!

President Winters come off as a spoof I thought it was that bad.

According to the Doctor, a friend of his called the Corsair regenerated into a woman once. So probably. However, I think the Doctor has limited control over his regenerations, so he'd probably have to want to become a woman for that to happen.

Apparently he doesn't want to be a ginger enough, either. :oldrazz:

Here's a thought I just saw:

"The Doctor just loses it, gets to cry and mourn his best friends. He doesn’t even think about the angel. Who does?

River.

She has to stand there and stare at the thing that just essentially killed her parents right in front of her, and she can’t blink, and can’t look away, because the Doctor isn’t able to think about that right now, and she has to protect them both"

Would it really matter for the Doctor? It's only 30 years or so. Dude's over 1000 now.

I'm just going to imagine the Doctor landed the TARDIS right on top of the Angel and let it go splat.

Why was River in 1938? Is it a case of River being River (probably) or what? Because if she is there with the intent of being there because the book dictates her being there, then she will also have knowledge of future events. But then the episode doesn't imply this, so River is just randomly in 1938 to service the story? Wut.

Also, and I missed this the first time, when the Doctor is pleading with Amy to get back into the Tardis, he uses those famous words: "Come along Pond. Please." All the feels. All the feeeeels. If anything, Series Seven has really showcased Smith's acting chops.

She didn't even know about the book. The Doctor had to tell her she wrote it. And it's not like it's the first time River and the Doctor's paths have crossed randomly.

I was assuming River had visited them in this post-Doctor era already though, but didn't know about the book. When Amy asked if she'd end up with Rory, the Doctor didn't know but River told her she would.

Isn't Colin Baker the least popular Doctor?
That'd be interesting, have a feeling it's more likely he'll regenerate into an African-Britian(?) before a woman.

I've always kinda wanted Chiwetel Ejiofor (sp?) to be a Doctor

We say black british :cwink:

Idris Elba as said he would like to play the Doctor.

I wouldn't mind that, but I have a feeling they'd cast a Brit and have them do the most hilariously terrible fake American accent of all time.
I think they would cast an American but not many American actors usually move to the UK to do British TV shows.

When American actors come to the UK its for theatre and films usually.

I'm a little confused by the ending. When we saw people being zapped back in time, they were alone in a room till death. So, are both Amy and Rory really together or alone in separate rooms? Did I miss something here?

That Doctor would land in a white country at some point before the 1980's exactly once before keeping to the 21st century, the future, and alien planets. He has a hard enough time getting people to listen to him as it is, you know.

I think it was just River being River. She studied enough history to suspect there were Weeping Angels in 1938 New York, decided to investigate on her own, and ran into her dad. As we saw in the Library 2-parter that introduced her, sometimes River just looks into stuff.

Yep. I think it's because he had the most violent post-regenerative trauma. Instead of being bedridden for a day or experiencing selective amnesia like everyone else, he got paranoid and choked Peri.

I like Colin Baker. He was hilariously loud and arrogant and completely oblivious to how ugly his coat looked. He was like the Brian Blessed of Doctor Who-- except for that time he actually met Brian Blessed and looked tame in comparison.

a British actress trying to sound like an American... right, like THAT really worked... :o

get a REAL American to play an American companion...

Or a Canadian. Let's be honest, no one can really tell the difference unless they say a word like "house" or "process." Half the cast of the Stargate TV franchise were Canadians playing American soldiers.

I think they get zapped into a room, but remain free to come and go as they please. The Angels probably zap them back to the building if they run away from NYC, but I think Amy & Rory would've been free to live in an apartment together over the next 50 years.
