Doctor Who - The Regeneration Edition - Part 14

I don't know, I think everyone dying under his watch in his last story really would have put me off and felt out of place. I don't know what the point of it would be other than tragedy for tragedy's sake.

The tragedy is that this whole time the answer was in front of him, and I would have played that up - since the very first episode that 11 appeared. The Time Lords were there all along, waiting for him. If only he'd seen it, the possibilities are endless but the Doctor always learns his toughest lessons through death. Perhaps it's part of why he's recently had a fear of it.

The deaths of the innocents would be to achieve the following:

- Make his enemies true threats again
- highlight what I listed above
- Perhaps show us that without Amy and Rory, he really was lost, which makes the end scene when Amy appears that much more meaningful

This is all just fan fiction and not worth "defending" though.

Twelve only appeared one episode prior though, and by that time Eleven already knew there was the possibility the Time Lords survived.

Tragedy and, more importantly, failure shouldn't really be a defining point in a regeneration story. It should show the Doctor trimuphing, at the cost of himself. The only time tragedy really worked was McGann's but contextually, it worked, because he was the villain (in a sense), who the Doctor was had been corrupted, and he was no longer needed.

I'm all for having the villains be more threatening, I even brought it up before, that with the Nine it was "just this once, EVERYBODY LIVES!" to "Pretty much everyone lives, all the time".

The Daleks haven't even exterminted for about 4 years. But this was not the time to have the Doctor fail.

"You're always here, to me. And I always listen. And I can always see you.”

:( :( :(

such a great line, and scene, one of my favourite quotes. I love the way he catches Rivers hand as shes about to slap him.

True, true. I don't think it would be fit for the special that tragedy happened. It is a Christmas special after all.

But, yeah. Now that you've mentioned it, I haven't seen a Dalek exterminate anyone the past few seasons, or at least anyone dying. Or I just forgot. I miss how Nine is lonely and angry. :(

For 900 hundred years, the Eleventh Doctor defended the town of Christmas against hordes of monsters and foes – and in this new digital ebook you’ll find four dramatic stories from the Doctor's last stand…

Find out more about 'Tales of Trenzalore' here: http://bbc.in/TalesofTrenzaloreBook

^That's coming out this February, right? :D

So the Doctor was there for 900 years, not 600.

Eh. Until told otherwise, if it's not onscreen I don't really consider it canon. If the episode itself said 600 years, well then 600 years it is.

Anyway, might Robb Stark be making an appearance afterall?

Could former Game of Thrones star Richard Madden be up for a role in Doctor Who?

The actor was posed the question by Zaptoit in a video interview recently and possibly hinted at involvement.

He said: “I mean, I love Doctor Who. I’ve always loved Doctor Who, but… we’ll just see what happens in the future.”

Madden is dating a certain Jenna Coleman and as we know from Sherlock, Moffat isn’t averse to casting partners and family relations.

Considering Moffat's lack of imagination with casting, I have a feeling they will cast Capaldi's daughter as the daughter of one of the characters in an upcoming episode.

I think Richard Madden would make a good Doctor. Maybe after Capaldi.

He'll have to wait in line behind Alexander Siddig!

On that note, is there a canonical reason why the Doctors are all clean shaven?

I for one want to see a Doctor with the full-on Tom Selleck mustache.

Beards are shady? I never really thought about it but none of them have even had a mustache let alone a full beard.

Only The War Doctor, which probably indicates a deliberate variance from the norm.

And depending on who you ask, he doesn't count.

I'd rather have Benedict Cumberbach as the Doctor first, before Richard Madden. Madden just doesn't seemed like a 'Doctor' to me, or maybe I can only see him as Robb Stark or something.
