I just saw this on the news about a 13 year old kid getting robbed while watching Alvin and the frikkin Chipmunks in the cinema. What's worse is he was robbed by a 14 and a 9 year old.

I by no means lived a sheltered life. I grew up with my mother in a council flat in South London. The city was my playground growing up and now I am afraid to raise a child here in NC. Has it always been this bad and I was just very lucky as a kid or is the world going to hell in a handbasket?

Kids have been robbing people for centuries. You just don't hear about it in the news that often.

Kids robbing people is pretty common. Visit the middle east or Asia sometimes.

The world doesn't suck that bad now. At least we have indoor plumbing.

i'm really starting to get to the stage where all i can think is **** it all.

sadly this world seems to want me to suffer so i'm just tired of it

and yes i know i don't have it as bad as most and could be in a hell of a worse situation than i am, i'm just sick of trying to do the right and decent thing and getting screwed for it

I'm really not surprised by this news story. When I was 8 years old I was mugged by another 8 year old. Over a cupcake. True story.

13 year old deserves it for going to see Alvin and the Chipmunks

I was about 10 years old, playing baseball at the diamond near our house when a dude came up to us, threatening one of the other kids. I stood up to the guy, asking him to leave us alone. He responding by pointing a gun to my head. Good times.

Pssst, I was born in Manila and lived there until I was 10 also ;)

Maybe I am noticing this crap more now that I am an adult

That's cool man, I didn't know. The things we don't see as sheltered children.

Manila's great though, spent 10 days there about 2 years ago. Great food, hot women, really hotter than I expected though.

Let's keep in real, here. Kids rob other kids in America all the time. It's in movies. It's on TV. It's in cartoons.

One kid walks up to another kid on the playground, beats them up, and asks for their lunch money or food or something else they have. You may call that "bullying," but change the setting to a movie theatre, and you've got this exact same news story.

Well at least the media will blame Charles Dickens this time instead of video games.

Why is this the news story that gets the OP to look at the world differently? :funny:

I used to beat this one kid's ass everyday for his lunch money. I was in 4th grade. But I grew out of that phase.

So no, this doesn't surprise me. The world sucked just as bad in the late 70's and early 80's too.

I thought kids robbing other kids was something as common as brushing your teeth.

lol. Out of all the things shocking in the world, a robbery of 13 year old kid is what bothered you?

Yeah, I'd say you're relatively sheltered. That or you don't know how it really is out there in the real world. I've heard things much much worse and it's not attributed to anything of today. Stuff like this has been going on for a long time.

You know the world has sucked that bad for a while.

He should have been doing like any other kid his age these days. Sitting at home and illegally downloading it off the internet, then he wouldn't have gotten robbed.

Yeah, if people are going to be robbed, it might as well be people who can afford it.

The world has always sucked this bad.

We just used to pretend it didn't.
