Comics Doesn't anyone else read Spider-Girl??

Thank you for your concern Jeffers, but not even this minor injury can keep me from doing what needs to be done! We got a comic book to save! Thanks again..

Hey Jeffers, someone in another Spider-Girl thread eluded to Spider-Girl possibly joining the Exiles?? Can you dig up any dirt concerning this subject if any? I know that Spider-Man 2099 is rolling with them for the moment, but i just wanted to know if there's any truth to this. Thanks...

Uh, was just re-reading some of my Spider-Girl comics, and i've never asked this question: What ever happened to JJ/ aka the Buzz? After the issue with John changing back into the Man-Wolf, that was pretty much the last we'd seen of him.

So the solitcitation for issue 100 has a suprise announcement.

I think we're in for a big SURPRISE gang! If, of course- the word on the street is accurate, and i think it is! No details yet, but keep on spreading the word, and buy up as many issues as you can muster! The Hobgoblin apprearence in the latest issue has created a buzz big time, and has brought in new readers. It ain't over baby!!

BUMP! We'll all be up to speed after the Pittsburgh Comic-Con, and know the fate of our beloved Spider-Girl comic book. So just hang on just a lil' longer guys, Jarkoer & Jeffers will be posting more info after they recieve the word on Saturday. (Don't ask me why, but i'm ready to toss the confetti!)

Hey guys, I just picked up issue 97 at Hastings today. Last one there! ;) I was collecting back in the 40-50's(when it was endangered of getting canned back then) then I just couldn't keep it anymore. I hope that maybe buying the rest of these issues will keep this comic alive! :) It is good ol' fashion Marvel fun!:spidey:

Just to let you spider-girl fans know there was an easter egg in ironman 7 today with a bumper sitker saying I heart MC 2. Just thought you would like 2 know.

Picking up issue 97 was more important, but every little bit counts! Glad to have you back on board SpiderWebs2! This Saturday, we'll all know the fate of our beloved comic, but until then- enjoy this current arc because it's ALL THAT! Also tell a friend just how much you enjoy the comic too, or let 'em read your issues so they can be the judge for themselves. 9 times out of 10 they enjoy it!

Aloha,
One good turn desreves another.
When I get some time, I am strongly thinking of putting up the complete cover scans of Spider-Girl on my web site. I also have the comics. Stay tuned for the summer. I sent in my email as well.

It's always a pleasure having you over here Donald! Thanks for sharing that info, and showing Spider-Girl some well deserved love! I'll be sure to keep my eye opened for that, as i'm sure you'll be back to let us know the day it happens!

Over on th' Marvel boards someone's reported that in Pittsburgh they've announced that it's possible SG will get a relaunch with #1 to possibly boost sales. So looks like it's avoided cancellation a THIRD time.

Probably closer to the 10th time. We didn't know about the first five times it almost got canceled.

Anyway, at the Spider-Girl panel at the Pittsburgh Comicon, Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz were sounding very positive about the liklihood of a relaunch. They said that if the relaunch happens, they will focus more on Mayday's school and homelife. As a result of things that will happen in the next few issues, Peter will become more of a mentor. I think these are good ideas.

But as happy as the news is, we can't get overconfident. The relaunch isn't a done deal.

Hey guys. Pittsburgh native here and I checked out the Comicon yesterday.

(Fantastic year this year...probably the best it's been since they started it)

But I talked with Mr. Defalco at his booth, didn't go to the Spider-Girl forum in the hotel unfortunately. He couldn't give anything away, mostly because I told him not to...I enjoy a surprise....but from what he implied to me, while signing my Spider-Girl # 1, that Spider-Girl wasn't going to be dead after # 100

And, by the way, I read # 97 this past week. What a GREAT read it was. Defalco really made Kingsley a bad ass. I'm completely pumped for this.

And, oh yeah, I think Mr. Defalco visits the Hype because I told him there is a thread dedicated to Spider-Girl and he told me, "Oh, I know". So...I supposed sometimes our voices do get heard sometimes. And Tom Defalco is a really nice guy too. Also met Greg Horn and Bendis too. But Tom Defalco was my favorite, with Greg Horn right behind him because he was such a cool guy and he signed my Spidey print I bought.

Though Marvel has announced – multiple times – that Spider-Girl will end with July’s issue #100, this weekend at the Pittsburgh Comic-Con, writer Tom Defalco and artist Ron Frenz strongly hinted that, as with many things at Marvel, dead may not mean dead.

According to the series’ creators, there is a possibility of a relaunch of a Spider-Girl series, or a series starring Spider-Girl in the future. As the two revealed at a Spider-Girl panel, Defalco has begun preliminary discussions with Marvel about a relaunched title – which would feature a new logo and a more prominent role for Spider-Girl’s father (Peter Parker) in the series. Discussions are, Defalco stressed, preliminary at this point, with a new series not a done deal.

The series, which is Marvel’s longest-running comic in its history with a female protagonist, has been plagued since its earliest days with rumors and threats of cancellation. Set in a possible future of the Marvel Universe, the series stars May “Mayday” Parker, taking up her father’s mantle, as one of a new generation of Marvel heroes. Initially launched as part of a group of “MC2” titles that were set in the future world, Spider-Girl outlasted all of her contemporaries, running from 1998 to this year’s #100.

While the series made sense at its start (Marvel was expanding and looking for new territory to mine and attract readers), the series became somewhat marginalized over time as the other MC2 series fell by the wayside, and Marvel opted to focus on strengthening its “core” universe, and streamline its continuity.

Throughout the series run, it has been saved from cancellation time and time again by the efforts of its fans, who are, while not great in number, perhaps the most dedicated and loyal in mainstream comics. It was partly due to fan support that Marvel chose to collect and reprint Spider-Girl issues in digest form, which have reportedly proven to be very popular.

Asked for comment or confirmation about Defalco’s claims that a new Spider-Girl series is in the offing, a Marvel spokesperson said that nothing has changed - issue #100 is to be the final issue of the series. Asked for further clarification or if there was semantics issues involved, Marvel again reiterated that Spider-Girl #100 will be the final issue of the series.

And my quote of the week from a Ron Frenz Interview

Frenz on Hobgoblin's upcoming appearance in Spider-Girl: "He's actually coming back and seeing all these Sesame Street super-heroes running abound. And he's hurts them pretty badly because that's what he's good at.

:D

Welcome aboard Venomator! Trust me when i say that you're NOT alone! Honestly, Spider-Girl has been very consistent the whole run. Sure there were a few arcs that were ran too long, but in the end the stories have been enjoyable to say the least. I'm also a Spider-Man fan, and it hurts like mad to see what's going on with the character at the moment. That's why this book has been the SAVIOR of the Spider-titles (most would say USM, but i disagree..). Anyway, hope you'll post more frequently!

With that said, please continue to send letters to Marvel's office requesting Spider-Girl comics. Although the news is said to be "canceling" the book, we still want our Spider-Girl, and we need to continue on in our efforts of seeing it back on the shelves. I personally, will send two letters every two weeks. Whatever efforts you guys can muster would definitely be appreciated, and know that i do realize that this can be stressful at times, but if you can help- please do so. Even if buying the book is all you can do, it's all the same. Thanks again.
